Well my first thought on The Bride was “WOW” Honestly this book will have you turning pages like a Tasmanian Devil. An utterly gripping read from start to finish. I changed my opinion on Daisy, the main protagonist many many times. For the most part we are reading from her point of view as she tells her truth whilst awaiting trial. I even changed my mind about why she was in prison. Was a massive miscarriage of justice about to happen? or is she really in prison because she is guilty?

The Bride is brilliantly written and keeps you on your toes through out. John Nicholl has created a masterpiece of deception. mistrust and love that twists all the way to the end. I was enthralled by every single word and found myself caring more for Daisy and her lost soulmate James, as the pages ran out, I did not actually want the pages to run out. I was enjoying it too much for it to end! I did not at any point, however guess the final twist and boy was it a good one! Brilliant all round incredible read. Definitely worth a few reading hours.

John Nicholl is another authoir to add to my list of favourites. The Bride pulled me in right from the very first page and gripped me till the last,with an ending I really didn't expect Highly recommended and thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the ARC.

This book is told solely from one narrator, Daisy, currently in prison. Overall, a good thriller, which keeps you intrigued and wanting to know more.

Wow! What can I say? I love John Nicholl books and this has to rate among his best.
Newly married Daisy tells her story from prison, where she is awaiting trial for murder. She goes through the whole thing from start to finish explaining her thoughts and feelings along the way. Daisy misses him terribly, and is struggling to come to terms with recent events.
The reader is left wondering what happened to her beloved James after he disappeared shortly after their honeymoon flight home.
Where did he go? Did someone take him? Who is the mysterious Oliver who keeps appearing in her life?
There are many unanswered questions, and a huge twist at the end.
This book is so well worth the read, and I eagerly ook forward to Mr Nicholl's next one!

Im a sucker for a good domestic thriller, as soon as I seen the title, I knew without even reading the description that I would want to read it. I didn't recognize the author, but hey, I love trying new things!

Of course, I couldn't NOT know about John Nicholl as soon as I started reading (this guy seems pretty bad @ss!!) so I had to look him up. Here's a fun fact, John Nicholl, is a former police officer, social worker and lecturer. He began his writing career after leaving his job and heading up child protection services. Most police officers hate the writing that is involved with reports but Nicholl's loves writing so much he is now a best selling author!

I might not have heard of Nicholl's before I started The Bride, but I sure do now, and I have purchased his entire backlog. I am more than excited to get to all of them .

This book right here left my jaw permanently on the ground. As soon as one twist was exposed, another one was dropping. From the first chapter to the last, this book is INTENSE!

I have been a @johnnichollauthor fan for a while now and this didn't disappoint even though it had a different vibe than the other. From the very first chapter I couldn't turn the pages fast enough I just needed to what happened. It was such a twisty book i was constantly wondering what would happen next, I mean I don't think I have got my head round that mad ending.

I have loved John Nicholls books since his first 2.
This one was one of his best.

Daisy is in prison awaiting trial for her husbands murder.
The story then goes back to the events leading up to the fateful day.

There are some brilliant twists and turns and the twist at the end you will never believe.

I know John Nicholl isnt every bodies cup of tea, he is graphic to say the least but the stories are always brilliant.
His characters are always believable and the stories are up to date.

I would recommend this book if you are ok with graphic writing.

I've read several of Nicholl's books via Rachel's blog tours and have thoroughly enjoyed them.

The Bride is a dark, tense and absolutely gripping psychological thriller that tells the story of Daisy and her recently departed husband James.

Daisy loved James with every ounce of her being, so why is she now in prison awaiting trial for his murder? And who is the mysterious Oliver and what's his motive?

This was so good, there are plenty of twists and the ending was just like wow, I so wasn't expecting that!

Absolutely riveting and definitely one to recommend.

Can't wait to read more from Nicholls in the future.

Why is Daisy, just recently a bride, in jail for murder? She sets out to tell her story. As the story is told bit by bit, there are notes of impending doom. The foreshadowing is off the charts. Will this story have a happy ending? Best if I keep this short and avoid any spoilers. The suspense was real, so I am going to award four stars.

I will admit that I often stick far too rigidly to my safe reading genre of feel good, romance, anything cosy and nice.
However, every now and again a book comes along, that isn’t my usual read, but really captures my imagination and curiosity.
#TheBride is one of those books.
The blurb lured me and as soon as I started reading, I was hooked.

Daisy loved James. They had their perfect wedding, honeymoon and even a baby on the way. So why is Daisy now on trial for James’ murder? And did she do it?

I have been completely engrossed in this book. It is so very well written by John Nicholl. Once you’re in, you’re in to the end.
This is a psychological thriller that has q dark side. It will leave you with shivers down your spine and chills in your heart.
Some of the twists in this book left my jaw on the floor. And the ending blew me away.
Outstanding!

This is the eighth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Killing Evil' and 'The Doctor' (First book in the 'Dr David Galbraith' series) and 'The Wife' (Second book in the Dr Galbrailth series), 'The Father' (Third book in the Dr Galbraith series), 'The Carmarthen Murders' (First book in the 'Carmarthen Crime' series) , 'The Tywi Estuary Killings' (Second book in the 'Carmarthen Crime' series) and 'The Cellar' which I would also highly recommend.

This novel consists of 40 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!



OMG!!!! Yet another fantastic success by John!! What a read!! Just Wow!!! This is one of the best psychological thrillers and series I have read in a long time,in fact that I have ever read!!!

Clear your schedules before picking this up because you won't be able to put it down!!


The storyline is absolutely addictive and gripping. I seriously WOULD NOT even start this book unless you have cleared your schedule because you will not be able to put it down!!! I absolutely blew through it in one sitting and it genuinely was unputdownable!!! A true page turner absolutely rammed with suspense, tension and everything you want when you read a psychological thriller. This would be absolutely amazing if turned into a movie, if done right of course!!! This is an absolutely gripping and addictive storyline.



Yet another absolutely gripping and addictive page turner from John Nicholl. I have yet to come across one of his books that I don't absolutely love!! This dark psychological thriller has the perfect amount of suspense, mystery, crime and tension to keep you absolutely hooked throughout!! I love the fact that this book is based in Ferryside which is literally 5/10 minutes away from me by car. The beautiful village I live in, Kidwelly , also gets several mentions!!! The fact that I recognised so many places really brought the story to life. John really describes Carmarthen, Kidwelly and Ferryside perfectly and even when this book is filled with crime and murder he manages to portray the beauty of local areas. I love that John mentions the vegetarian cafe on Merlins Lane in Carmarthen (Waverley Stores & Vegetarian Cafe in anybody is interested to know what it is called and wants to visit themselves). I'm looking forward to my own visit there are my mouth watered from John's description of the vegan mushroom burger!!! The storyline is absolutely ram packed with crime, mystery, murder, suspense, tension, and everything you could ask for in an addictive psychological page turner!! It also has just the right amount of humour in to lighten the mood which I always love in crime books. Will I say more? Nope, sorry for the tease but you'll just have to pick up a copy to find out more. I can't go spoiling it for future readers now can I? I found the storyline to be unique which always a bonus with so many crime novels around it can get frustrating reading similar story lines constantly. I absolutely loved the ending which was an absolutely fantastic and unexpected twist that I would have never seen coming!!! I think I'll have to leave this here as I don't want to risk giving anything away but needless to say this book is an absolute must read with an unexpected ending. I would love to see this turned into a movie!!


Daisy is an extremely strong female character who is realistic and very believable, or is she? I enjoyed meeting her in this book and getting to know her family, her history and how she has got herself in the position she has. However, and this may be slightly biased as I was extremely lucky to have this character named after myself, but my favourite character has got to be PC Kirsty Whitlock!!!! I was absolutely landed when I seen I had been lucky enough for John to name a character after myself and I would love to see her/me more 😂!!!! A HUMONGOUS THANK YOU to John for doing this. It is literally a dream come true for me and after the horrific few weeks I've had it really has made my year!!!! Anyway, moving on, not that I want to 😂. I previously met one of the other characters DS Laura Kesey in the second Book in the 'Carmarthen Crime' series 'The Tywi Estuary Killings' and also John's 'The Cellar'. I was pleased to "meet" her again. Detective Sergeant Laura Kesey who was another huge part of the team is very likeable and hard working and I do enjoy meeting her whenever I come across her in one of John's books. I also loved Ray who I have also met previously, also in 'The Cellar' and who made me laugh a few times. He reminded me of Detective Inspector Gareth Gravel from the 'Dr Galbraith' and 'Carmarthen Crime' series by John although not quite as big an attitude problem!! I would love to meet Ray again as he is one of those characters that will stay with you well after finishing the book. All the characters are realistic and strong and John's vivid descriptions make them leap out of the pages. Regardless of whether you love or hate them these characters worked perfectly to make this book absolutely unputdownable and I cannot wait to get stuck into John's next book which is guaranteed to be another explosive page turner!!



I really cannot compliment and recommend this book more. It is a heart racing, nail biting, suspense packed psychological thriller that will stay with you for one hell of a long time.



Congratulations John on yet another absolutely addictive nail biting edge of your seat novel. This is exactly why you are my favourite male author!! As always I'm looking forward to reading your next page turner and success 🥂 !!!

This novel is told through the narrative of Daisy, through letters to her unborn child as she is awaiting trial for murder.

Nicholl had me flying through the pages which were built with tension and intrigue to keep any reader going.
There is a gripping twist that left me, and I imagine any reader, shocked towards the end.

This is a novel I highly recommend and an author I will be reaching for again.

I have read all of John Nicholl’s previous books and have rated them all very highly. So when I read the blurb for The Bride I couldn’t wait to read it. Yet again this one didn’t let me down. A completely unputdownable psychological suspense thriller that reeled me in right from the very start. There were a couple of great twists throughout the book, one I guessed quite early on but the others left me speechless. I did gasp out loud at the ending which I thought was brilliant.

This was a good read, likable well described characters, introduced at a good interval so easy enough to keep them all straight, good plot with a twist at the end.
Daisy is the main character and narrates the story, she is talking/writing a letter to her unborn child while she awaits trial for murder. We aren't sure who she is accused of murdering however. The story starts with her relationship with James and discussion of their wedding and honeymoon, the day they return, James goes missing. I found myself reading furiously to find out the outcome, the author had a great way of building tension, relayed tons of information and description in the story. I liked the story, I found at times it dragged just a bit, but nothing that would keep me from recommending the novel to someone, I would absolutely read more novels by this author.

I have enjoyed Mr Nicholl's books before and this was no exception.

I became very quickly engrossed in Daisy's story; it's full of tension and suspense with me desperately wanting to find out just what the heck happened. There are twists that had my mouth agape with the ending of the book causing me to gasp out loud. Written at a good pace, The Bride is a great psychological thriller that I would have no hesitation in recommending to readers of this genre.

She is adamant that she is innocent and is determined to set out the truth on paper. Starting from a happy childhood in west Wales and meeting James at age fifteen, through university to starting her nursing career and their marriage, she wonders whether she missed any red flags. Especially where Oliver, the university friend despised by James who just keeps appearing, first at the wedding, then during the honeymoon and then later on, offering support when James vanishes without trace on the way home from the airport, despite an extensive police search, and days later is found dead, washed up on a beach. What will Daisy reveal and will it be enough to set her free?
This is a twisted, clever and very well written story that lets the reader think they have it all worked out, only to be surprised and shocked at the end. I liked the character of Daisy, and it’s easy to forget that a grieving pregnant woman with hormones flying will not always take the most rational of decisions. It was great to see an appearance from DI Laura Kesey, a great detective who made her first appearance in the brilliant DI Gareth Gravel series of books although I have to say my favourite character here was the lovely DS Ray Lewis. A tense and gripping read I can definitely recommend.

This is not the first book I’ve read by this author & it certainly won’t be the last. A slow burn psychological thriller which is told predominantly in the first person & with multiple flashbacks. The book opens with Daisy Earl in jail awaiting trial for the murder of her husband, James. She is telling her side of the story to her unborn child & I think this construct worked really well.

You are as capable as me at reading the blurb so I won’t repeat the plot line here. Suffice it to say, it’s an everyday occurrence that turns dark very quickly.

I couldn’t get behind any of the characters even Daisy, who I felt I should support but that didn’t stop me wanting to know what happened. An enjoyable read with some slick twists towards the end.

Tense and gripping from the start with many twists and turns. Some I guessed but others were out of the blue. I loved how there were little hints at the end of the chapters about what was to come, so I had to read "just a little bit more". The ending came as a real WOW!!! A great book and another author to add to my list of favourites. Highly recommended and many thanks for the opportunity to read this brilliant ARC

“The Bride” was an unexpected surprise! There were so many puzzles I wasn’t able to solve. The emotional first chapter is heartwrenching. Daisy is writing a book, for her unborn child, from a prison cell while awaiting her murder trial! Who can stop there?

Daisy and James return from their honeymoon with a long and happy life ahead of them. Daisy is expecting and they are both looking forward to this new chapter in their lives. Then James is killed and Daisy is a 23-year-old widow. The story goes along at a fairly steady pace until nearing the end.

The explosive ending is a jaw-dropper that I didn’t predict! This psychological thriller is filled with so many twists and surprises. My head is still spinning! John Nicholl did a fantastic job with the clever plot and red herrings that are scattered throughout the story.
