I couldn't finish the book, I'm sorry.

Too repetitive for me, too boring too. I just wasn't for me. Thank you, anyway, for sending me the ARC.

A young newlywed woman, a missing husband are the basis for this well written fast paced book. The book begins with the pregnant newlywed in a jail cell awaiting trial. The characters were intriguing and well written. The pace was steady.

Undercurrent Of Menace..
Who exactly is Daisy and how exactly has she found herself in the position that she is in - awaiting trial for murder. After all, she was living the dream life with her new husband and unborn child. Wasn’t she? A twisting, turning psychological suspense delivered with a slow burn ratcheting up of gradual tension and with an undercurrent of ever present menace.

At first it seems so mysterious, how could this happen? Inn love. pregnant and just stopping to pee. How could her husband simply disappear? And how could she be considered a suspect? As the story spins out, there are people with ulterior motives and bad intent.
It was a little bit predictable, and did have a satisfactory conclusion.

The Bride was my first book by the author John Nicholl. I was captured by the description. A pregnant woman, Daisy, is on trial for murder but wants to make sure her side of the story is delivered to her unborn child and world, so she writes about what happened. Daisy wants the world to know her innocence so they can rally behind her, about her husband and his untimely dead but especially about the deceit she endured.

James and Daisy were high school sweethearts. They married shortly after completing college, enjoy a honeymoon and James is told about his wife's pregnancy. All seemed well until the newly married couple is hit with a travesty upon their arrival home after the Honeymoon. James has been murdered. Who killed James? Why was James killed? Who is Daisy on trial for killing? Will she be acquitted? Will Daisy be able to raise her child?

The first half of the book is about how the death of James impacted Daisy and her family. She is barely eating, on sabbatical from her nursing job and lives with her parents. She is frustrated with how much progress the police department has made in the investigation. Daisy relies on her family for support but is still lonely. In comes Oliver, a friend of her husbands, to save the day. He wiggles his way into her life, but Daisy is not sure if he can be trusted. So, more mystery builds up.

The Bride is a very slow burn. It did not get more exciting until about 70% of the way through. I kept reading because I wanted to find out if Daisy would go to jail. I so wanted her to have a life with her unborn child and I wanted a resolution to who killed James. All those answers were revealed at the end and much more. The book does have a few twists.

Overall, I liked the book. The twists were the saving grace. The book has me still thinking. I just wish it was faster paced. Yes, I know the author had to build up since this is a psychological thriller, I just wish there was more suspense. I give the book a 2.5 for pacing and story telling, but the twists bring it up to a 3-star book.

I would recommend this book to people that enjoy psychological thrillers but also let them know that this is a slow book.

Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book for my honest opinion.

Daisy and James have been together for years and have just come back to Wales from their honeymoon. They stop at some services, Daisy told James on their honeymoon that she is pregnant and she needs a break at the services.

Daisy gets them both a drink and sits and waits for James - and waits. James doesn’t come in and Daisy hunts all over the services with no sign of James anywhere.

The police look for him and he can’t be found. Daisy knows he wouldn’t just leave her so what could have happened to James?

This is such a great tale and I had no idea where the story was going to take me. I felt for Daisy, I couldn’t begin to imagine what she was going through and her grief was heartbreaking.

A tale of secrets and revenge. The ending was not what I was expecting at all and it was lovely to read a book where I didn’t know what was going to happen.

My thanks to Boldwood Books, NetGalley and the author for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

My Review:
Enjoyed!!!! This was my first book by this author and it certainly won’t be my last. What first drew me to this book was the blurb. A husband gone missing right after coming back from the honeymoon and the grieving wife that wanted answers. What could be more interesting than this? Also, that blurb definitely made me want to find out more about this great read. Was the blushing new bride as innocent as she claimed or was the new husband hiding secrets that he didn’t want to come out. So this one did start off a little slow for me. The first half of this book was more of the backstory of this couples relationship and what happened before he went missing. A backstory is always great but it shouldn’t consume too much of the book. The second half did pick up and is what made the book for me. Secrets were being revealed and you finally learn what truly happened. I was shocked and stunned by the time this book was over. I did not see any of that coming. I will definitely be picking up another book by this author very soon.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 4 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️

DNFed.

my goal is to be as real as possible, and honestly, I couldn't get into this book.

I felt the beginning very forced and I couldn't find the strength to want to know about these characters.

It didn't work for me

Fantastic read but if I hear You’re in control one more time……

Daisy and James Earl have everything going for them. They are soul mates, living in a picture postcard cottage in Wales, and having just got married, they go on their honeymoon. This is when their dream lives together end, as on their way home James goes missing and is later found dead.

The story is told by Daisy who is pregnant and currently in prison, on trial for murder. We discover that following James’ death, the police start an investigation. Daisy is in steady contact with the police and regularly chasing them for updates, but they seem to get nowhere. James’ old university friend Oliver comes on the scene and slowly and very cleverly worms his way into Daisy’s life and home. But Oliver’s intentions are not harmless, and the story soon takes a much more twisted and sinister turn.

I found this book to be an extremely easy read. I love the way the story is told from Daisy’s viewpoint, retelling and reflecting back on what has gone before. You are soon easily invested in the characters and each chapter leaves you wanting to read just a bit more. I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller and with plenty of twists, it is such a compelling read. Even the very end left me contemplating a long time after I had read the final page. Definitely another great read by John Nicholl, not to be missed!

‘The Bride’ by John Nicholl is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. This novel is a perfect blend of suspense and mystery that will leave you wanting more.

The story follows Daisy as she writes about her past so that her unborn child might one day understand how she came to be in the position she has found herself in. Her life has taken take a dark turn, one she claims to have never expected but it spins becomes clear that nothing is what it seems.

John Nicholl does an excellent job of building tension throughout the novel. The pacing is perfect, and the plot twists are unexpected and satisfying. Daisy felt well developed as a character and although I would say she was anything but likeable, I felt myself drawn in and very invested in her fates.

One of the most impressive aspects of ‘The Bride’ is how Nicholl tackles difficult subject matter such as death, violence and mental illness. He does so in a sensitive and thoughtful way that adds depth to the story without feeling exploitative.

Overall, ‘The Bride’ is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. John Nicholl has crafted a masterful tale that will leave readers breathless. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you up all night, this is the one for you.

The Bride is a gripping psychological whodunnit thriller by international bestseller author, John Nicholl. This novel will chill you to the bone. After having read all his novels, which include The Dr. David Galbraith series, The DI Gravel series and his standalone psychological thrillers…this novel is another winner! The author has written books, each dealing with different issues, drawing on his experience as police officer and child protection social worker.

His standalone Novels Include:
The Cop (2019)
aka The Girl in Red
The Student (2019)
aka The Girl in White
Mr Nice (2020)
The Sisters (2020)
aka The Sisterhood
The Victim (2021)
aka Killing Evil
The Cellar (2022)
The Bride (2023)

This is my review of The Bride.

This novel is about a twenty-three- year- old expectant mother, Daisy Earl, and already a widow, who had been arrested and charged with alleged murder. She was a victim, and was looking to find out the truth, and clear her name for her unborn child. By writing her story from her prison cell, hoping for it to be accepted. Her life was spiraling of out control.

Now with each chapter the reader gets to hear her story…

Daisy and James had been soulmates and were very much in love. They rented a flat while they both attended different universities, James was studying history and Daisy was studying nursing. They were soon engaged. On the morning of their wedding, Daisy had just found out she was carrying his child.

Daisy’s husband, James, was killed shortly after they returned from her honeymoon. Has she been accused of his murder, or is there something else going on? We don't find out till later, as Daisy tells her story in flashbacks, both before and after James' murder.

But who really killed James?

Daisy needs everyone to believe her story that she is not a killer…for the sake of her unborn child.

This was a totally gripping psychological thriller with a jaw-dropping ending, that will keep you reading late into the night. A great read as usual!

Many thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for my digital copy.

Daisy and James are so in Love and decide to get married. On the day of her wedding, she found out that she is pregnant with James’ child. She waits for the right time to tell him that she is pregnant. But on the honeymoon, she doesn’t get around to it. There are having such a good time and she is not sure yet how James feels about kids.
When they arrive back from the honeymoon, they stop at a service station to get snacks. James has got a headache, so he decides to stay and search for tablets and they both agree to meet in the café. But James’ doesn’t turn up and has gone missing. When the Police search for him. They find his body on the beach.
In the start of the story, Daisy is in prison on trail for murder. But for Oliver who she met at James’ funeral. A friend of James, who wasn’t allowed to go the wedding. Daisy starts meeting up with Oliver and soon after moves in. The rest of the story is about what happens that leads up to that day.

This was exciting and kept me on my toes. However, it was a tad bit predictable on who did what. Other than that the story flowed very well and I enjoyed this.

John Nichole does it again in his recent book “The Bride”. This is a great psychological thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat with the twists in the story.
Daisy and James are newly married and on their honeymoon. Tragedy strikes on their way home and Daisy doesn’t know how to come back from this. As Daisy is working through this tough time, Oliver starts to insert himself in Daisy’s life.
This book had me in a hold from the first page until the last page. Highly recommend.

Having not read anything by this author before I dint really know what to expect. The blurb sounded interesting so I thought I’d give it a go.

It didn’t take me long to get invested in the storyline, wanting to read and find out more when I could. The characters were believable although I did think one of them was very naive but I suspect due to grief wasn’t able to see what was happening in front of her.

I really enjoyed reading this, although I thought I had it all worked out correctly I must admit, I had to read the last few lines two or three times before they truly sunk in.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.
