"Night Will Find You" by Julia Heaberlin is a novel that left me with mixed feelings, earning a 3/5 star rating in my assessment. While the premise had the potential for an intriguing thriller, I found the writing at times to be somewhat choppy, which hindered my full engagement with the story. The narrative had moments of suspense and mystery, but it didn't consistently maintain the level of tension I was hoping for. However, I must acknowledge that Heaberlin's ability to craft complex characters and interweave their stories added depth to the plot. The novel did have its moments of intrigue, but it didn't fully deliver on its promising premise. It may still appeal to readers who enjoy psychological mysteries but be prepared for a somewhat uneven reading experience.

I loved the TV show "Psych" where a quirky psychic helped solve police crimes, so I was immediately drawn to this read. While you won't find the comedy and quirks of "Psych" in this read I nonetheless was drawn to the characters and cold case solving of Vivvy Bouchet.

Vivvy is a highly educated astrophysicist that happens to have inherited some of the other worldly perceptions and feelings her mother embraced. Having used her premonitions in the past to help an old police friend she's hung up her skills to grieve her recently deceased mother. But she's drawn back in at her friends request and this case has really piqued her interest.

From conspiracy theories to personal attacks and genetic quirks, "Night Will Find You" is an exceptional read.

A well-known psychic and a conspiracy theorist turned podcaster cross paths in this story from Julia Heaberlin.

I really enjoyed this one! I'm not typically a fan of psychic stories, but I like this author, and this was an easy read. It felt especially relevant in this political climate.... without becoming a soapbox diatribe. The characters were good, seemed realistic, and the plot moved. It did start to lose me a little in the middle, but ultimately the end was good! There wasn't anything super memorable or distinctive about it, but I would definitely read more from this author.

When Vivvy Bouchet returns home to bury her mother, her childhood friend Mike Romano approaches her for help. Mike, who is now a cop, is convinced Vivvy possesses psychic abilities like her mother, so he wants help with the cold case of three-year-old Lizzie Solomon. Lizzie’s mom is in prison for the girl's disappearance, which took place a decade earlier. The girl was never found.

Vivvy, who is now an astrophysicist, is reluctant to get involved since she wants to leave all her perceived psychic abilities in the past. She grew up with a mother who capitalized on those abilities, yet Vivvy doesn’t wish to acknowledge the same traits.

Mike, however, pushes her to help him solve this cold case until she agrees. It becomes interesting when Jesse Sharp, Mike’s police partner, is as skeptical of Vivvy’s power as Mike is sure of it.

My Initial Thoughts
Psychic-type books aren’t my cup of tea. But it didn’t take long for me to realize this story was going to have me listening, and then listening some more. I was hooked on the characters and the story, which ended up including a tangled web of a podcaster, small-town people, family relationships, and a past love. And, of course, the subject of psychic ability.

Was There Too Much Going On?
I have to admit, some books leave me lost and even uncaring about so many subplots and threads running through the story. But in this case, it all fit together and at no time did I think it was too much. In retrospect, I’m wondering if it didn’t help that the threads didn’t carry character after character. I didn’t feel over-taxed with names and people.

The Characters
Each character and their relationships left me wondering. Nothing felt straightforward. And I loved the tension between Vivvy and Jesse. The characters were well-developed and unique.

My Concerns
The love triangle felt odd and the resolution was a little too quick and unbelievable.

Though I liked the scientific aspect, there were a few things I questioned.

The Narrator
I’m always amazed at what a good narrator can bring to a story. Karissa Vacker did a terrific job of reeling me in with her storytelling.

Final Thoughts
Though I had to suspend some disbelief, Julia Heaberlin created a story that had me completely engaged. The combination of author and narrator worked beautifully.

I highly recommend this audiobook! Heaberlin will be an author I'll keep an eye on, for sure.

My thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this #gifted audiobook to review.

This is such an interesting concept, the MC Vivvy is an astrophysicist and a psychic. It’s great to see a strong smart female MC, but throughout the book, she kind of lacked any strong attributes. She still ran around like a chicken with her head cut off.

I really wish Vivvy would have had more psychic abilities/powers than what she was given. It frustrated me since every time it started to take off in this direction, it halted and dragged the story out with another failed attempt at using her abilities.

Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

Vivvy Bouchet is a 28 year old astrophysicist living in a desert working on research into extraterrestrial life. Upon her mothers' death, Vivvy returns to Fort Worth Texas, a place she had distanced herself from in more ways than physically. Her mother was said to have physic abilities and made a living telling people what she though they needed to hear. As a child, Vivvy had very vivid visions that involved a boy named Mike. These visions and her stalking of him to get him to listen to her, saved his life.

Now grown, Mike is married to Vivy's sister and is on the police force working a very high profile cold case concerning a missing girl. Desperate for a lead, Mike pleads with Vivvy to use her gift on the case. Reluctantly she gives in, but promises nothing,. The lead on this case is not a believer in her ability at all. It is because of his constant testing and poking at her that she becomes angry enough to prove him wrong and uncover what happened.

Moving through the case, Vivvy finds herself in a constant struggle as her visions contradict the scientific knowledge she has been trained in, yet she cannot dismiss the credibility of either. Add to this the rabid fans of a podcaster "Bubba Guns", a you tube podcaster who reads like an Alex Jones wannabe. He creates and spins conspiracy theories trashing Vivvy and others until they are prey.

Can Vivyv get over her imposter syndrome and help solve the case? What will be left of her life if she does? Julia Heaberlin has created a vivd story of a small Texas town with complex relationships and herd mentality that is smothering independent thought.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Karissa Vacker. She did a fabulous job of performing this material. I was impressed with how she was able to voice so many male characters in a unique voice so as never to confuse the listener as to whom was speaking,

This is a creative twist added to a cold case story. I will be looking for more work from Julia Heaberlin,

My thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC or this title.in exchange for my honest review.

I like that Vivvy Bouchet is both a scientist and a psychic and I love how the story comes full circle with the blue horses. This was an interesting mystery, the author was able to keep me guessing right up to the reveal.

Karissa Vacker did a great job narrating this novel and bringing the characters to life. i would say that I will look for more books narrated by Karissa in the future but I already have her set as a search option!

Night Will Find You is a brilliant read. It is unique and suspenseful. Heaberlin's writing is detailed, yet extremely readable. I loved this story from the very beginning. I read it in under 24hrs. And Karissa Vacker does an absolutely incredible job narrating, as always. I would love a second story about Vivvy Bouchet!

Vivvy is a psychic who helps a childhood friend by advising on his unsolved cases sometimes. She is called home to help with a missing child, where she has to face some of her own demons head on. When a famous podcaster chooses her as his latest target for public ridicule, she must find a way to stand up for herself while searching for the missing girl.

I really enjoyed this thriller! There was a lot going on with some really complex relationships. The narrator (Karissa Vacker) was amazing and I always love listening to her. I never knew what Vivvy was going to uncover next and it kept me hooked. There were some really relevant plot points like the conspiracy theorist podcaster and the exploration of the reliability of “psychics”. I thought the ending made perfect sense and really added to my enjoyment of the book!

Vivian, a psychic astrophysicist, returns to her hometown of Fort Worth to lay her mother to rest. However, she finds herself entangled in old relationships, agreeing to assist her longtime friend and brother-in-law, Mike, in solving a cold case.

What distinguishes this one from the typical psychic trope is Vivian's role as a scientist, which adds depth to the story's supernatural elements. Her intelligence and methodical approach make her a compelling character to spend time with. As she collaborates with another officer, Jesse, it becomes clear that he may harbor his own hidden motives. Both characters possess a certain prickliness, creating engaging dynamics between them.

The author skillfully provides readers with a wealth of clues and red herrings that felt a bit much, and I struggled in the beginning with the flow of the story. While the big reveal surprised me, it felt like I should have seen it coming. Nonetheless, it was a satisfying twist, delivering the kind of payoff I seek from a story.

I found myself rooting for the characters and their intricate connections. The way Julia Heaberlin neatly tied up their arcs, in the end, provided yet another gratifying payoff, leaving me wholly satisfied with the story's conclusion.

I listened and read the story and enjoyed both formats. I thought Karissa Vacker did a fanatic job of narrating the story and highly recommended listening to it.

I absolutely adored this audiobook. It was incredibly enjoyable and the storyline kept me mesmerized from start to finish. The main character, Vivvy is one that you can truly both relate to and sympathize with. She's had a difficult upbringing. With a mother who was known as a 'fortune telling hack' and no idea who her father was, she didn't exactly get a great start in life. Yet, she and her sister, Bridgette had each other.

But then Vivvy could see things that Bridgette couldn't and eventually that created a rift between them. One that they couldn't quite figure out how to bridge. And life threw other things at them too - - other things that would cause them to drift apart and struggle to find their sisterly connection again.

When Vivvy's childhood friend, Mike brings her in to help with a case, she's got mixed feelings about it. She doesn't really like being brought in to help the police. It always feels to her somewhat like a "dog and pony show." Also, she isn't sure that she appreciates everyone knowing much about her or her gift. And then there are the rumors that fly about her and Mike. It all serves to further complicate her feelings on helping with the local police department.

The beauty of this book is that the author portions our information at perfect times for optimal effect. I will definitely look for more from her in the future.

The narration for this audio was done really well and aided in my enjoyment of the book. It kept me intrigued by the story.

“Night Will Find You” is a beautifully written thriller that gripped me from the first chapter. Lately I’ve found it difficult to really engage with many books, even ones by authors I love or with summaries that sound great—but I did not have that problem here. The character of Vivvy Bouchet is complex; she is an astrophysicist with psychic abilities that she tries not to advertise, and her relationship with her family is a bit fraught.. I loved the way that Julia Heaberlin slowly revealed the aspects of her personality. While away from her telescope and back in her hometown of Fort Worth following the death of her mother, Vivvy is asked by her brother-in-law to use her psychic abilities to help the police solve some cold cases. When she has a strong reaction to an object that belonged to a child abducted years earlier she becomes embroiled in a high-profile and dangerous case. The main storyline is complicated and twisty, and Vivvy’s interactions with the police, the child’s family, and a number of others connected to the case create a compelling story that I could not turn off. The audiobook was well-narrated and made me feel as if the story was being told directly to me. This is definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year. Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook.

I keep vacillating between whether I enjoyed this book or not. It definitely held my attention and made me want to keep going to find out what would happen! The mystery of missing girls and the red herrings kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were well written with very distinct personalities which the narrator did a nice job of showcasing. I liked the feeling of tension throughout the story as the main character, Vivvy, fought to piece together the ghosts that haunted her with real life experiences.

I didn’t particularly like the fact that the author wove in some current event issues, using the names of actual people. For example, she mentioned Elon Musk and his space pursuits on multiple occasions. While I understood her motivation for doing so, as it helped set the tone of the situation, it also detracted from the flow of the story. It was irritating having real names when her points could have been made using fictional characters instead. Also, the story line with Bubba Guns went way over the top. Sometimes simple is better.

I enjoyed the narrator for this book. This is not the first novel I have heard from her and I always enjoy the variety in her voices and how she reads with expression. The voices she used for children talking were a bit cringe worthy, but luckily those characters were few. The only difficulty I had with this narration was in the epilogue. I had to listen twice for it to make sense. I believe there must have been a page break in the written form that didn’t carry across in the narrative. It made me question the ending of the book so I had to listen again to determine what happened.

Thank you to #NetGalley and #MacMillanAudio for an audio ARC of #NightWillFindYou by #JuliaHeaberlin with narrator #KarissaVacker in exchange for honest feedback. - 3 stars

‘In the new thriller from the author of the bestselling We Are All the Same in the Dark, a brilliant young astrophysicist with an uncanny gift is asked to find a girl who vanished. Their story will make you examine everything you believe.’

We finally got to Seattle and my heart has been so happy since coming in:) it’s good to finally have a little vacation time with the family🤍

Last weekend we were in Austin though (where this picture is from) and I finished NIGHT WILL FIND YOU, it was SO good. I did a bit of a hybrid of the audiobook (10/10 narration) and physical reading. It was everything @reading.with.my.goldens said it would be, thank you for recommendation sweet friend!!

NIGHT WILL FIND YOU is a wonderful novel for anyone looking for a fast paced read that follows a missing person and an unconventional consultant for the police that spearheads the search. The character building was brilliantly laced with touch of ‘spirituality vs. science’ and I loved it. The author did an amazing job speaking on some really complex topics, 5 stars all the way⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ps. The main character lives in Big Bend, need I say more🤩

Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook
ARC of Night Will Find You. I found the story to be captivating. Vivi is not your average astrophysicist (not that astrophysicists are typically average) haha. She’s able to help with cold case files. When someone tries to prove she can’t do what she says she can - it makes her want to prove she can, all to help solve a case. 3.5 stars

Excellent! With a little bit of the paranormal and a lot of mystery surrounding a missing girl, Night Will Find You is a great page turner. I received this audiobook from netgalley as I have enjoyed the narrator, Karissa Vacker’s, performances so much in the past and just like before she is excellent! Great book. Great pace. Lots of twists.

I listened to the audiobook of this one and I think one of my favorite parts is the narrator. She did an excellent job bringing the main character and the whole story to life. Scientist Livvy has returned to her home town to deal with the death of her mother and her mother’s affairs. Her sisters husband Mike who is a policeman who believes passionately in Livvy’s special paranormal psychic gift and has her using it to help him solve some cases. She’s brought on to solve the case of a missing girl who has been missing for a decade and whose mother is in prison for her murder despite the lack of a body. The mystery was great the first 80ish percent but I didn’t love the way all the things were resolved. I especially didn’t like the way things went with Sharpe. I can live with the romantic story line, but the order of events was not great. I will say all the storylines were wrapped by the end, I just thought the story had so much potential for a better end.

Sorry got 1/2 done and it’s not for me. Too much psychic weirdness , the characters are perfect in every way, a dead rat with descriptions, a cat shot and now a chicken slapped to death ?

I can't say why but I wasn't particularly excited to read this. Which was probably a good thing because I ended up being pleasantly surprised. I loved the mystical elements and would love to read something else by this author.
