Emotional intelligence is so important and so commonly overlooked in favor of intellectual intelligence. This book demonstrates the need for empathy in a variety of contexts and settings where conflict may arise, and offers tips and exercises to build your skill set in this area. It's not just teachers and therapists that need to be proficient with their emotional intelligence, it's everyone who comes into contact with other humans… So, everyone. Highly recommend this book as a resource. I appreciate NetGalley and the publisher for providing a digital ARC. My honest review is my own opinion.

This book is a very easy read with lots of bullet points. That’s something I love in a nonfiction book! There are exercises and steps you can take immediately to improve your life.

This is a great reference guide for navigating situations that come up at work or in life. The book is written similarly to a Robert Greene book. The tip is presented, then the tip is broke down, and finally an exercise of how to put the tip into action is given.

While it is not something that lends to a linear reading experience, it is perfect to have available as situations arise or to go over a tip a day or week and try and follow through with the exercise.

This book is excellent! It is comprised of 101 tips for building/using emotional intelligence in the workplace. For each tip there are suggestions of things to do. At the end of each section there is also an exercise so readers can consider more deeply the tip. Each chapter is short and easy to follow. Well worth the read!

Emotional Intelligence Game Changer: 101 Simple Ways to Win at Work and Life is a self-help book designed to help people succeed in business and their personal lives. The author explains that the term emotional intelligence originated with Aristotle, and it refers to the skill of understanding and channeling our emotions, rather than letting them control us. Emotional intelligence (EI) is recognized as one of the most valuable soft skills that a leader can possess. Developing and using EI can significantly change the outcome of any situation at work or in the world.

The author uses simple concise language and specific actions to take to address a wide variety of problems that readers might encounter in their everyday lives. I thought the tips that were geared toward workplace situations were the most helpful. Since the tips are indexed separately, a reader can access them in any order; the book does not have to be read chronologically. A really enterprising person could try to implement a new tip each day, since each chapter is short and to the point.

Great tool.

I found this a fascinating read and oozing in common sense and practibility. Starting with an introduction that gives a definition of emotional intelligence and the importance of it and then moving onto 101 tips for how to foster this in your workplace, this book is a game changer!
Each tip starts with a wise quote from various figures, goes on in point form with mini headings and an explanation under each one and ends in an exercise for you to achieve that tip in real ways.
You can read through the book or look for the chapter that best suits your current needs and skip to that.
A great find!

A quick and easy read with handy tips and exercises to assist with creating space for more emotional intelligence. ItDoesn’t need to be read chronologically and you can pick topics that’s are relevant to you. Some of the information becomes quite repetitive when you read it chronologically so I would recommend just reading what you are interested in or needing advice on.

In Emotional Intelligence Game Changers, Harvey Deutschendorf has written a book to help readers to understand their emotions and to learn how to balance them. The book is in a simple form with a short chapter with bullet points, El exercise, and a quote broken down into 101 ways. He explained where the term emotional intelligence come from and it began with Aristotle. It is defined as, “skill of understanding and channeling our emotions, rather than letting them control us.” He shared how his father was an angry man and was rarely happy. They have to live on guard never knowing when he would get set off. His mother was the opposite and she was patient and loving. He grew up in a dysfunctional family life. This led to him to become guarded and afraid of criticism. He would withdraw and would be distant and at work he didn’t have the people skills. He explained how he read a book and worked hard on his emotions and he turned his work life around. He would get to know them on a personal level and help with extra work and this led to him getting promoted.

One of my favorite chapters discussed the importance of recognizing awesome employees. They have discovered that potential new hires are looking for employees with good attitudes. This tends to be more preferred than their abilities, skills, or knowledge. One of the ways we can change is remembering to respect others and show them consideration. We need to be handling our emotions well and become a part of who we are. Another way is knowing when to speak up and ask questions with sensitivity. We must also refuse to ever say it’s not our responsibility and ignore trying to help others or doing additional tasks. Employees can also be open to finding ways they can improve the work environment. This EI activity was to begin your awesome gift card program and email another coworker a blessing and a gift just to thank them for their hard work.

I would recommend this awesome book about emotional intelligence and this is a great tool for personal and business reasons. He has a main goal of helping you to learn how to manage them. I liked how he explored body language and how we should position our bodies and maintain good posture. I also liked how he explained the prominence of not taking things too personal in business. Our coworkers might have been upset at a spouse and taking it out at us at work. I thought it was really interesting how he described how loneliness in our workplace is worse than obese and possibly even smoking. He included helpful tips in creating an atmosphere where coworkers can connect also on a personal level and in turn become less likely to be lonely. I also connected with all the types to avoid at work that are toxic to our health. This will help readers to learn more about them and how to handle them. I thought he did an excellent job at trying to help readers especially in their work environment. This book would be a great read if you would take a tip a day and try to act it out in real life.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Harvey Deutschendorf, an emotional intelligence expert, writes about the different ways we can practice our emotional intelligence in the workplace and our personal lives in "Emotional Intelligence Game Changers: 101 Simple Ways to Win at Work and Life". He lays out 101 easily digestible points about better ways to work, dealing with diverse co-workers and managers (different perspectives, temperaments, etc.), and even improving personal relationships.

I think this would be a great book for organizations at the beginning of their journey to improve their workplace and their leaders' management styles. However, I didn't necessarily think these points were game-changers by any means (as Deutschendorf details in the title). It may have made more sense to call them "gentle reminders". Maybe a lot of the ways seemed obvious to me since I previously worked in HR, but I didn't learn anything new.

Again, this would be a great start for organizations looking to reform their workplace, but nothing super groundbreaking.

Over the past few months, I have been reading more and more personal development books. And why is that?
Because while it's true that going to therapy is one of the best investments, we can make in ourselves, it's also true that this type of reading allows us to discover issues we didn't even know we had. In addition, we can get tools and advice on a particular topic that we can take into our daily lives, and revisit as often as we want.
These are three of the most important benefits I see in personal development books, and this title by Harvey Deutschendorf delivers on all three.
But what stands out the most is the number of tools and tips on Emotional Intelligence that the author brings to our lives, 101 to be exact.
Each one is described in a chapter that is very well written: short, precise and efficient. This makes that I could read about 10 chapters every day and the reading time became enjoyable.
The sentences at the beginning of each chapter, although a common resource, were great and appropriate.
I know this is a book I’ll return to many times, also I’ll add his others book to my TBR.
So, if, like me, you use these types of books to improve your life, you need to read the 101 tips and tools in Emotional Intelligence Game Changers by Harvey Deutschendorf.

This is a book that you read in small chunks and let it ruminate with you. Love the tips threaded throughout. It was an easy book to follow and lots of great reflective moments.

Good book with short chapters, each concerning different situations with advise to how apply Emotional Intelligence. I read one or two each day. It gets a bit repetitive at times, but writing is very good and content as well.

In general, I thought this was a helpful book. Being a person who considers themselves somewhat emotionally intelligent, there were quite a few tips that seemed very basic and a few more that seemed fairly manipulative. With that being said, there were also some very practical tips, things to think about as you deal with other people, and emotional intelligence exercises that you could use to practice skills. This book is good because you don't have to read it straight through. You can go to tips that you feel you need to strengthen and read the ones you feel that you need most.

This is a valuable book, and not just for leaders. A myriad of insightful and useful ideas about how to use EI to improve your interactions, relationships and life! A great treasure trove.
