What Happens Next? is a choose your own adventure graphic novel. It follows Megan and her friends as they try to navigate school, write a newspaper, and avoid the principal.

I thought that this was a clever idea; I had so much fun with the choose your own adventure books when I was a kid. Unfortunately, after running through 7-8 scenarios in VERY quick succession I was done. I can get beyond the not so great artwork, but the interactions between the characters was just bad. I understand that the principal was supposed to be annoying, but he was just downright cruel to some of the students. The token bad kid was extremely disrespectful to the teacher and instead of letting the teacher handle it the other students called for help and the student was forcibly carted off. Even trying to flip through the pages was sometimes confusing - you would get to the page you chose and wonder if you were on the wrong one because the first panel made absolutely no sense, but the second or third did.

I know that trying to flip through pages on an eReader was not ideal and detracted from the experience, but I just didn't care for this at all.

Thank you to First Second Books and NetGalley for an Advanced Copy of this book.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book. For me, the art style was too chaotic and cluttered.

Another thing that bothered me was the fact that one of the characters was called "Weird Randall" - even directly *to* his face. It seemed in poor taste and reinforcement of bullying and "othering" someone who is different. (I have not read either of the prior two books in the series, and perhaps this situation is addressed there, but regardless, it comes across as mean and dismissive.)

I didn't understand the purpose of many of the plotlines, and much of it did not even involve the newsroom.

I generally enjoy "Choose your own adventure books, but it seemed excessive to have to choose where to go at the end of almost every page?

Obviously, there will be children who enjoy or even love this book, but I struggled to find any value to it.

A choose your own story path, how unique. I've heard of choose your own stories but have never read any yet. I received an ebook version and I don't think this was the way to go as it was tricky to find all the pages. I thought the author was ingenious to identify and connect all the various story paths to make sense when read out of order. I enjoyed the illustrations and the characters. I look forward to finding the other books in the series in print format.

Thank you for providing an advance copy of What Happens Next? for me to read. Who doesn't love a choose your own adventure story?! The absolute best part is the re-readability of this book. The book itself was very enjoyable and I read it 3 times just to see a few different endings. If you liked Talent Show Troubles, you will definitely enjoy this installment.

This is a really fun way to bring back choose your own adventure stories. It was a silly goofy time. Kids will enjoy trying to follow all of the possible plot lines. I wish more of the story was about the newspaper - many of the plot lines didn’t involve it at all., but overall it was fun.
