The Watchmaker's Hand by Jeffery Deaver is another good addition to the Lincoln Rhyme series. When a New York City construction crane mysteriously collapses, causing mass destruction and killing several people, Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are on the case. A political group claims to be behind the sabotage and threatens another crane collapse unless their demands are met.

With New York in a panic, the stakes are higher than ever for Rhyme and his team to unravel the plot before the timer runs out and more cranes crash down. Then Rhyme realizes that the mastermind behind the terror is his own nemesis—the Watchmaker.

Right from the start, the plot was intense and intriguing. The ending was very good and satisfying.

This could be read as a standalone book, but reading previous books will help you understand the characters and get to know them better and what they've been through.

I would recommend this book; it's a good addition to the series, with good characters and solid writing.

Another fabulous Lincoln Rhyme story, did not disappoint. I’ve been waiting a little impatiently and devoured this one in one sitting.

Rhyme is called on to help when a towering. crane in NYC collapses as a result of intentional tampering. More terrorizing and deadly acts are threatened by a supposed neo Russian based group if their demands are not met. The excitement of the hunt builds from the very beginning and Rhyme's talent for sniffing out clues and culprits is once again out in full force. Facing a former nemesis brings out the highly developed and honed skills of villian detecting that Lincoln is known for within the ranks of the entire NYPD.
Great and well defined characters as is usual with all Deaver novels and a plot that is so intriguingly complex and interesting that it keeps you absolutely spellbound.
Great story, excited for the new arc.

Jeffrey Deaver is one of the best, maybe the best, at writing crime thrillers with twists that make sense. They don't come out of thin air just to be a shock.
Having written that I will say that the latest entry into the Rhyme/Sachs series piles on too many twists and "surprises" for my personal taste. My main issue is something that Mr. Deaver has done in the past but feels almost like a self parody this time. He puts a character at risk, seems to seriously injure or even kill them then they turn up later in the narrative having escaped death or serious harm. When he has done this in prior novels it was scary and relieving. This time there were four instances of the technique used. I stopped believing the characters were at any risk. Less use of this in the future please.
I still enjoyed this novel and will absolutely read his next. He is a great writer.

Another fabulous Lincoln Rhyme story.

Great story.
Great Lincoln, Amelia, Ron and Thom interactions.
Ready for the next installment👍

This is #16 in Jeffrey Deaver's amazing Lincoln Rhyme series, featuring a brilliant criminalist turned quadriplegic from an accident suffered while collecting evidence on a crime. While most of his body is paralyzed--excluding the random body part like the tip of a finger, what remains fully intact is his brilliant brain, still able to sort through clues and find connections no one with full use of their body can hope to. In  The Watchmakers Hand, Rhymes battles an old nemesis who possesses an equally brilliant mind, the Watchmaker. The two build circles within circles in an effort to outsmart each other, resulting in an ending you will never predict. The plot includes massive 300-foot cranes that collapse, taking down everything around them (who's ever seen a plot like that), drones, kidnapping, and--of course--murder. All of these spun out at a hundred miles an hour with no break to catch your breath. Vintage Lincoln Rhyme.

Besides the crimes Lincoln Rhyme solves, his curiosity makes this series incomparable. Read this:

“So, they’re not the brightest bulbs,” he said. “Maybe we can use that.” “How’s that?” Rhyme queried. “Misspellings—‘obsene.’ And ‘its’ without an apostrophe.” Rhyme clicked his tongue. “Those were intentional, to make us think they’re stupid. They’re not.” “Yeah?” “Other rules of grammar and punctuation’re right. They use ‘that’ and ‘which’ correctly: ‘That’ restricts the meaning of the preceding word. ‘the properties that are on the list below.’ ‘Which’ is nonrestrictive—providing optional information. For instance—"

If you like me love to exercise your "little grey cells" (thank you, Hercule Poirot), this is for you.

What didn’t I like? Deaver uncharacteristically didn’t seem to know how to end this story. I was completely satisfied and then he kept going. Next time, I’ll just stop when the real story ends. That tiny criticism didn't hurt his rating at all.

This book was another hit from the author. Although okay as a stand alone, reading previous books in this series would give a clearer picture of the characters. The storyline was interesting filled with mystery and suspense as well as enough twists to intrigue the reader. This is a book which I would recommend to others.
