I appreciate having had an opportunity to read and review this book. The appeal of this particular book was not evident to me, and if I cannot file a generally positive review I prefer simply to advise the publisher to that effect and file no review at all.

Matthew Clark set out on a writing project that demanded his focus and extreme attention to every detail. Being a craftsman of the first rank, a skilled carpenter, and recently separated from his wife, it was obviously time to put his expertise to work on paper. Just how his relationships coincided with pine flooring boards was put to the question Clark set out to answer, not only for himself but to somehow make the world a better place. In likable and conversational prose Matthew Clark both charms and delights us while we read The Book.

Sprinkled throughout the book are many charming anecdotes, personalities, a few jaded outsider views, shared knowledge of how wood works, and a myriad of occasions structured to examine our lives. For a carpenter such as myself I learned several previously unknown things about the nature of wood. I also learned how, like almost everything, everything is connected to everything.
