Absolutely superb novel by Kate Ryder, I loved every chapter, was eager to turn the next page ! I’m not a fan of historical novels normally but the way the present day is interwoven with glimpses of the 15th century Cornwall is breathtaking. As a professional genealogist it really spoke to me ,and I so wanted to trace the lives and paths of William’s descendants…fanciful I know but that’s how it made me feel! I loved this book , spellbinding read. If I could give it ten stars I would!

Echoes on a Cornish River by Kate Ryder is a beautiful book, sweeping and immersive, with wonderful twists of plot, characters and time. Kate's writing is very evocative and creates a powerful sense of place, drawing the reader into the story from the start and conjuring the wildness and danger of 15th century Cornwall. The characters are well-drawn and relatable, with nuance and depth. Kate's storytelling has a rare magical quality that carries you away. I was genuinely bereft when the story ended and it was in my thoughts for a long time. Romantic and mysterious, this is my favourite by this author so far!

Never read any books by Kate Ryder, but this one was okay. The story revolved around Ellinor, who is a flight attendant, after a terrifying event at work, which puts her on long term sickness, she finds her place in Cornwall where her and her husband visit her cousin and his wife's farm. There strange things begin to happen and she is felt drawn to move there.

This book is in a split reality between the past and the present, where Ellinor seems to pass between. Although the premise of the story could be great, I don't think it was executed well. Too much irrelevant information to build the word count, for example, huge section on what ravens are important, I don't see how this added to the story, and I skipped the majority of this bit. There was no explanation of why Ellinor was going back and forth between the timezones, which left the ending a bit flat. All that said it wasn't a bad book but I don't think I would invest my time in other books written by Kate.

The beginning of the book left me slightly confused, as it read as if it was going to be a thriller or suspense story. Once Ellinor moved to Cornwall, the story settled down into something akin to the cover’s promise. It’s a good premise, and some of the scenes of the past and attraction are done well. It felt as if I was plodding through history to get to the story. I received a copy of the book through Net Galley.

When I started this book I enjoyed the first few chapters and then it fell into the duel time line. I struggled with Ellinor, Simon, Ian and Pippa and of course William.
I did enjoy the book and I am pleased I persevered to the end. A lovely tale of history, love and time.
My thanks as always to NetGalley and Embla books for the early read.

Echoes on a Cornish River by Kate Ryder
A skillfully crafted and richly imagined love story where the past and present collide and come full circle.
I particularly like the title as echoes resonate throughout the story as much as their voices carry across the river: echoes of fear, mistrust, danger, of strange familiarity and the stirrings of lost love.
Kate Ryder’s evocative use of language sets the scene with her closely observed landscapes and atmospheric houses. I found it an immersive read. To heal herself from a life-changing incident, Ellinor stays with her cousin in Cornwall, and finds herself inexplicably drawn to the ruins of an old cottage. She begins to explore the history of her new surroundings, little knowing that while enjoying the Cornish food and drink and breathing in the magical air she would find herself slipping between the centuries.
Drawn into the danger of a Tudor uprising, Ellinor is finally to discover that what will ultimately heal her is the deepest and most abiding love of all.
A thought provoking and very enjoyable read.

Echoes on a Cornish River by Kate Ryder was a light hearted easy reading romance.

Ryder is an amazing storyteller everything is believeable and real but more than that she has the ability to put me inside her story so that my imagination sees everything through the eyes of the characters. She paints a beautiful picture of east Cornwall, England. This story is full of vivid descriptions with a very engaging romance.
A true heart-warming read that hooked me almost immediately.

I loved this book.
A romantic time travel storyline with comes together in the modern world.
When a flight attendant has an horrific experience on board her flight and moves to Cornwall to forget and restart her life

I found this book improved as the story unfolded and I felt the time travelling element was the best thing about it as it made it different. The writing improved too as the first chapter I found a bit stilted in style but by the middle of the book the prose was much more engaging and descriptive. In the end I very much enjoyed and would recommend.

I was attracted by the blurb and loved the initial chapters. I wasn't a fan of the dual timeline as found it a bit forced.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

I read this book through to the end but the concept of "time slip" didn't become any easier to get on with. In fact, I found the Outlander books very slightly more believable than "Echoes of a Cornish River". That being said, the prose was great, even poetic in parts, and the descriptions of this part of Cornwall on the banks of the Tamar were very evocative.

Well written but I will not be knowingly reading any further "time slip" novels.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

I was totally transfixed by this spellbinding story! I couldn’t put it down, my everyday life was completely forgotten whilst I was immersed in this wonderful book! It’s beautifully written, vividly descriptive, and extremely well plotted. The characters are all highly engaging, and the writing flows seamlessly. I loved the concept of the story, love the merging of modern and medieval times, and was completely captivated by the journey of Ellinor and William.. There is so much in this book - history, romance, love, and of course beautiful Cornwall. I love time-slip novels, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint! Highly recommended.

BLURB:
Ellinor lived for adventure, always travelling from one place to the next - until tragedy struck and turned her world upside down. Needing to escape, she accepts an invitation to stay with relatives at their remote Cornish farmhouse.

As Ellinor settles on the outskirts of Calstock, it's not long before the land and its history have her itching to explore once more. Her search takes her far and wide when an unexpected encounter with an enigmatic, handsome stranger stops her in her tracks.

From the moment they meet, Ellinor knows deep in her soul they share a connection like no other. It's as if they've known each other forever. But no one else has heard of William... Is he all that he claims to be?

Could their love story be written in the stars? Or will past secrets threaten to alter the very future Ellinor has begun to let herself hope for?

MY REVIEW:
The blurb drew me in, I thought it hinted at paranormal elements. However, the book didn’t really capture my attention. There was so much information dumped on the reader, told and not shown, that I skipped over a fair amount of it. Some parts were so bogged down in the history and lore of ravens in Cornwall that it was almost staid.

This was more women’s fiction than romance, and I liked how the main character Ellinor dealt with her past throughout the book.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

A lovely story . Moves back and forward between now and the late 1400’s. Not my usual read.. Ellinor suffered a terrible trauma at work and it is her story of coming back from it with an amazing husband. Just a lovely love story . Read it. Set in Cornwall which always means a good read.

Unusual book. Not type I've read before but definitely enjoyed it. Elinor loves her job as a flight attendant until a terrible things happens and everything changes for her. She goes to Cornwall to her friend Ian and his wife Pippa's farmhouse to try to get back to her normal self

My initial thoughts was that I found it very welcome that this wasn't a stereotypical Cornish read with beaches etc.

Elinor suffers a difficult encounter and this takes up a key thread of the book. which is dealt with well.

However, the volume of information this brings with it, did switch me off a bit. Lots of raven and history information told to the reader which I didn't see as necessary. I'm a total history geek but this didn't for me.

A far fetched and not believable storyline that I'm not sure worked for me either sadly.
