Embarking on the winding journey through Eva Pohler's "Virginia Creeper" was like stepping into the shadows of Colonial Williamsburg, where the chill in the air doesn't solely arise from the winter breeze. In this enchanting tale, the secrets of the past intertwine with the supernatural, casting a spell that lingers long after the last word is spoken.

As Ellen, Tanya, and Sue set out to immerse themselves in the festive allure of Williamsburg during the holidays, little do they fathom the spectral dance awaiting them. From the magnificent light displays at Busch Gardens to the historical tapestry of colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown, an unseen presence follows, leaving an eerie trail in its wake.

Pohler masterfully crafts an atmospheric blend of history and the supernatural. The descriptions transport you to the heart of Williamsburg, where the flickering candlelight casts elongated shadows, and the scent of evergreens mingles with a spectral whisper. The creeper's tale unfolds against this backdrop, adding layers of mystery to the festive season.

The characters, Ellen, Tanya, and Sue, are not mere conduits for the supernatural; they are conduits for emotion and connection. Their journey becomes a vessel for unearthing buried histories and reconciling the lingering spirits of American Revolutionary War heroes. The narrative seamlessly weaves the present with the echoes of the past, creating a captivating tapestry.

The audiobook experience transforms Pohler's words into an ethereal symphony. The narration becomes the voice of the creeper, resonating with an eerie cadence that draws you deeper into the unfolding mystery. The pacing mimics the heartbeat of suspense, keeping you entranced from chapter to chapter.

"Virginia Creeper" doesn't merely recount a ghostly tale; it beckons you to partake in a spectral journey, where the boundaries between the living and the dead blur. The audiobook narration heightens the otherworldly ambiance, making it an immersive experience that shivers the spine.

If you seek a haunting narrative that transcends time and seamlessly merges history with the supernatural, "Virginia Creeper" stands as an evocative choice. Eva Pohler crafts an enthralling tale, and the audiobook narration transforms it into a spectral melody that echoes in the corridors of your imagination.

I never thought I would enjoy this book. It was a little slow at the start, but it picked up the pace, and all I wanted was to find out how the lovely septuagenarians could free the lost souls in their newly bought home and the nearby surrounding areas. Virginia was the perfect location for the story, and if there's one thing that this book succeeded in doing, it was to put Virginia on my must-visit list.

I love the narrator's voice, and I am looking forward to reading more about the friends' ghostly adventures. I'll be on the lookout for more of their adventures.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. I did not like the narrator at all. It was honestly a put off for me.
The story itself was okay. I was really drawn in it like I would have wanted to.

Really exciting book to listen to. It had lots of history in there which I really enjoyed. It was great to listen to. Fast paced. Paranormal thrown in there to keep you on the edge of your seat. Very well written

This is a cozy 10th installment in the Mystery House series by Eva Pohler (but it can stand alone). It’s kind of like Nancy Drew for adults, but with a little bit of a creepy twist. The main characters remodel houses, so there’s also a bit of an HGTVish vibe.

Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC for an honest review.

“Virginia Creeper” is the 10th novel in “The Mystery House series” and continues the adventures of Ellen, Tanya and Sue, as supernatural investigators. This time, their adventures lead them to the most Christmassy town in America, Williamsburg, Virginia. Instead of enjoying a well-earned vacation, they find themselves followed by a mysterious presence which sets them on a new adventure.

I liked that the story was easy to follow. Although this is the 10th book in the series, it didn’t feel like I missed out on any important detail by not reading the previous volumes. It was also nice to hear the author reading their own book and adapting each character’s voice to a different personality.

Special thanks to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, Eva Pohler Books, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review.

Definitely going to have to check out the other books. I missed that this was apart of a series. These ladies are interesting and I would probably join their adventures.

Tho I'm not sure how long I could last in that house especially after the first night they start investigating!!!!

During the holidays, Ellen, Tanya, and Sue want to go to the most Christmassy town in America, which Google says is Williamsburg, Virginia. While they're enjoying the magnificent light display at Busch Gardens and touring Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown, they sense someone following them. They quickly realize the creeper is not among the living.I don't think this one was for me but I wanted to give it a shot! I did like that this took place in Williamsburg, VA and the spooky stuff was fun but I was bored with the characters. There was a lot of talk about remodeling a house and I could really care less about stuff like that haha.

I have really been getting in to cozy mysteries and this paranormal cozy mystery was a lot of fun. When Sue decides to rent a B&B previously rented by her mom she finds out it’s no longer for rent but for sale and the girls are surprised to learn she bought it. When they arrive there delighted to see the cobblestones and quaint 1800s Cottage they’ll be staying in and although she doesn’t have any ghostly history for the Home no fear it’s haunted by the ghost who stalks the ladies, his name is Henry Hamilton but what message does he have for the ladies? This isn’t the best summary for this book but others have dumb summaries just know this is a fun paranormal cozy mystery with a narrator who sounds like she had just as much fun doing the book as I had reading it. Although this is the 10th book in the series it can definitely be read as a standalone but I bet it would be more fun reading them and order something I plan to do soon. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review

I openly confess I requested this ARC on netgalley purely for the cover, and having a Christmas theme. And yes, it's about 30°C outside in June right now! Perfect time to read a wintery book...

Virginia Creeper by Eva Pohler is a rather quick and fun read, which I breezed through in no time at all! It's the first book in the series I read, and despite there clearly being backstory between the main characters, this read just fine as a stand alone as well. I didn't really feel like I missed any important info, and I definitely enjoyed the voice and tone of the story!

It's a mix of mystery, history, paranormal investigation and friends who spend their holiday together. There's banter and helping each other out in the present timeline, but there's also the darker topics of how native Americans were treated back in the day. For me it was a good balance, neither too dark, not too callous about real history.

My one star missing is maybe a minor detail, but it really rubbed me wrong. A curse for example can only be broken in the same native language it was started with, which I found really rather well thought out.

This might be a spoiler, so read on with caution!

But then in the end the spirits were asked to go to the light of God and become angels? Do we try to convert people even hundreds of years after they died? I mean going into the light, or crossing over is all fine, but making it about the Christian god and angels just really didn't sit well with me at all, regardless of me not actually believing in spirits or religion.</spoiler>

Set up around Christmas timelines, the book takes you to the most lively town in America. While the main protagonists are touring the city they sense someone following them, someone is undoubtedly not living! To know who is the ghost following them and what does he want, read the book 😉

This is the 10th book in The Mystery House series and it's safe to say you can read this book without the previous ones. A book with lots n lots of ghosts, séances and a team of paranormal experts willing to take the risk. The contrasting vibes of Christmas festivities and creepy cold feet interactions with spirits leave you in an eerie mood. Which I feel is not everyone's cup of tea. For me, however, it worked pretty fine. I usually am a digger for such horrific contrasts.

Thank you @netgalley @dreamscape_media and @evapohler for the digital ARC.

Virginia Creeper
Mystery House Series: Book Ten
Eva Pohler
Ellen, Tanya and Sue are supernatural investigators. They want to spend the Christmas season at the most Christmassy town in the United States, according to the internet it is Williamsburg, Virginia. They are enjoying the lights of Busch Gardens and exploring the historical sites of Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. When they realize there is a spirit following them, they try to communicate with him/her but have little success. The spirit is stubborn and will only do things his/her way. They are staying at the house one of their mothers frequented. The owner has recently passed away leaving the house up for sale. One of the women purchases the house. There is a locked shed on the property, but they don’t have the key. After they break in, they find it empty except for the trap door where they find the skeletons of a great number of people. The creepy spirit is Henry Hamilton, and he is determined to help the stranded spirits find a way to pass over to the other side.
This is the first book I have read by Eva Pohler. The antics of the ladies, Ellen, Tanya, and Sue are quite humorous. I love the setting, Williamsburg, Virginia is a beautiful area and I love the history. This tale makes me want to return there. This is also a very suspenseful tale. I plan to read the other books in this series as well as watch for new ones.

This book was definitely a bit on the creepy side for me! But it was such a fun listen. The ladies (Tanya, Sue, and Ellen) have surely stepped up their ghost investigative techniques. The historical elements surrounding the story seem very real, and I’ll be researching it to see if some of it is true. The story had some sad moments due to what happened to them, but it was interesting. The narrator, Eva Pohler did a good job portraying an array of characters and using a variety of tones and inflections. If you enjoy cozy ghost stories, then consider grabbing this book. It can be read as a stand-alone or read in order.

A very special thanks to Dreamscape Media for the ALC.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Eva Pohler for providing me with a complimentary digital audiobook ARC for Virginia Creeper coming out May 29, 2023. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

During the holidays, Ellen, Tanya, and Sue want to go to the merriest Christmassy town in America, which the internet says is Williamsburg, Virginia. While they're enjoying the magnificent light display at Busch Gardens and touring Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown, they sense someone following them. They soon realize the creeper is actually a ghost.

At first, their efforts to converse with this unknown entity gives them nothing. Little do they know that he will share his message on his own terms, in his own way. The unsettling truth he tells them will change their world, but it may give them a chance to bring peace to dozens of American Revolutionary War heroes who have been lost for centuries--that is, if they can convince the creeper that they are there to help him.

This is actually the first book I’ve listened to by this author. I loved that she narrated it. It definitely felt more authentic to how the story should be told. I love Christmas, ghost and travel stories. So this was definitely up my alley! I loved it. It gave me Ghost Whisperer vibes. It wasn’t very long. I’m definitely interested in checking out other books in the series.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves cozy ghost mysteries!

I really wanted to like this but I, unfortunately, couldn’t get into the narration

This is number 10 in the series, and I read it as a standalone. This is my first book from this author. Virginia Creeper is a ghost story. The ghosts are American Revolutionary War heroes that are trapped from a curse and can not go to the light.

This was really good as I love ghost stories.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC for an honest review.
