Surprise pregnancy trope, high on the steam with no third act break up. Overall, it just fell flat. Nothing amazing but not horrible. There really isn't much to say about it. It's a good book that covers the length of the pregnancy and some of the trials they deal with, which in that sense makes it relatable. I really love it when there is no third act breakup, but there was no conflict at all. It made the ending drag quite a bit. I kept thinking this is the last chapter and there would still be another. There just wasn't enough to the story I think.

I love Micalea’s writing. There’s something so fluid and easy when she writes and it translates so good on the page. However, I didn’t love this book.

1) I couldn’t get over the cat named Cheddar. I know so many people who have named their cat that and I just wanted another name.

2) Okay the petname Beckham calls Lennon is pretty cute. Honeybee. Loved that.

3) I knew this was surprise pregnancy but I thought it would be later in the book. It happened too fast for my liking but that’s a me thing and nothing to do with the book. Other people probably love that the pregnancy happens around the 30% mark haha.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t finish it. It might get better, but my TBR is too long to power through something I’m not loving. However 3 star rating because the writing is great prose wise and there were elements I adored. I have several highlighted passages so that should tell you it’s not a fail at all.

Pleas pick this one up when it releases and give it a read! I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts on it! ♡

There was a time that Lennon was closer to Beckham than anyone else until he broke her heart. So you can imagine Lennon's surprise when she starts her new job, coming face to face with the man who broke her heart. Lennon thought she was over the hurt from the past, but when she's forced to work with Beckham on a project, all of her old feelings come roaring back.

Pretty Little Mistake sucked me in from the very first page. I was immediately intrigued by Beckham and Lennon and couldn't wait to dive further into their story. Lennon is the girl who has always been under her parent's thumb and as much as she wants to please them, she wants to make a name for herself on her own. And Beckham is the guy who has always been hopelessly in love with Lennon. Their relationship has always been complicated and the baggage from his past leaves him questioning whether or not he's good enough for the woman of his dreams. Together, these two should be the ultimate match, if only they could move past all of their baggage. I loved how vulnerable and real these characters were with each other. Their chemistry oozed off of the pages and their banter kept me coming back for more. These characters were far from perfect and even though they had me wanting to pull my hair out at times, I couldn’t get enough.

Pretty Little Mistake hits all of my trope marks with a forbidden, enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy, and second chance romance. I enjoyed everything about this story from beginning to end and couldn't help but root for Lennon and Beckham.

What a swoony, spicy and heartwarming romance from Micalea Smeltzer! The sweet torture of forbidden and unrequited love for brother’s best friend. The sizzling hot attraction and tension of enemies to lovers romance. The banter of workplace romance. And then a sweet little surprise! Lennon and Beckham won my heart.

The last person Lennon expected to face in her new job at her dream magazine is the person who broke her heart savagely years ago. Beckham has emotional baggage. And he knows Lennon is off limits. The only way he can push her is being arrogant and angry. Their boss forces them to work on a project together. That adventure lead to the surprise they neve wanted but something that would tie them together.

It was a whole package. Lennon and Beckham had a true friendship that turned to more but then Beckham's insecurity and fear took over and he left breaking her heart. You see glimpses of past that makes you understand their dynamics. The present Beckham is a grumpy brooding ahole. He has a bad childhood that Scarred him and he doesn't want to fall in love ever in fear of getting hurt and abandoned. But Lennon has a way to get under his skin. She is adorable and sassy and doesn't let Beck hide behind his defense mechanism. Their chemistry only intensified by their so called hatred and the denial and then the forced proximity. I love the situations when none of the party wants to accept their feels but cannot deny their attraction either! But the little surprise definitely changed Beckham. He supported and protected Lennon when she needed her the most. I hate her pretentious rich manipulative family so much! Thank god Beckham was there to love her unconditionally. Argh he just made me swoon so bad! Lennon's life became a rollercoaster and she expected Beckham to fail to become a real partner but Beck proved her wrong.

I really enjoyed this second chance romance. The banter between Lennon and Beckham is what kept me going! It also helped that we had a surprise "mistake" and I'm always a sucker for those. It was sweet and swoony and even though Beckham was a grump, he stepped up to the plate for his responsibility.

This story was so precious! I loved that it had so many of my favorite tropes (enemies to lovers, second chance romance, workplace romance). The chemistry between these characters was so sweet and their banter made me smile to myself so many times. I read this whole book in like one day I was so infatuated with their relationship.

Pretty Little Mistake revolves around Lennon and Beckham, two people who have definitely seen their fair share of heartache and trials. Later when fate brings them back together at work, they realise that their feelings haven't gone away and it's probably time to face their past and heal.

The chemistry between both MC's was great, and their growth was written seamlessly. The read started off incredibly strong and didn't lose it's momentum. Smeltzer being a great wordsmith will keep you hooked turning pages until the very end. This is a beautiful mixture of life, love and great personal growth perfect for any romance fans.

Trope List:

‘Pretty little mistake’ tells of the second chance at romance between Lennon Wells and Beckham Sullivan. When they broke up, it ended so badly that they hoped they would never see each other again. Yet years later, they find themselves working for the same magazine company. After one impetuous night, Lennon finds herself pregnant and everything changes. Forced to face their feelings, this book explores the couple’s relationship as they realise that this pregnancy gives them another chance. The banter between the couple drew me in and I found myself hoping that the pain of their past could be overcome.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

All the tropes! Lennon and Beckham knew (ahem) one another and then separated but now they've got to work together at the publication where she's a writer and he's a photographer. One night leads to a surprise- she's pregnant- and now they're working their way through all their issues to build a solid relationship, There are no real surprises here but it's a gentle read with good characters (but seriously- those names!).. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.

I’ve loved previous books by Micalea Smeltzer but unfortunately I can’t say the same for this one. It started off with the writing style, which I wasn’t a fan off from the start and then in my opinion the characters lacked chemistry so I really couldn’t get into their romance.

I'm not usually a fan of accidental or surprise pregnancies but this one was really cute! I love a good second chance and I needed a book that was lighter, not so angsty/drama filled so this was the perfect read.

Surprisingly, this was my first book by Micalea Smeltzer and I will definitely check out more of her books.

Read this if you like the following tropes:
-second chance romance
-office romance
-surprise pregnancy

I absolutely fell head over heels for this story! Not your typical love story but man did it play with my heartstrings. Such a fun read with some really emotional and dramatic parts as well. Sometimes life throws you for a loop but in the end even the pretty little mistakes are worth it!

Quick summary: Lennon and Beckham were in love as teens, even took each other's virginity, but Beckham breaks heart and leaves unexpectedly. Several years later, they reunite by working at the same news magazine. Their boss partners them together on an assignment. Sparks fly again, and they have a drunken one-night stand where Lennon ends up pregnant.

Content warnings/triggers: foster care, adoption

Characters:
Lennon Wells- (honeybee) 23 comes from wealthy real estate development family. Parents disagree w/ her job choice-journalist.
Beckham Sullivan- (Sulli) adopted @ 13 yrs. old by wealthy parents. Birth mother (Elizabeth Adams) died in car accident. Birth father (James Conroy) still alive but in facility due to spinal injury from the accident. Beckham goes to see him often to talk about Lennon.
Hunter-Lennon's brother and Beckham's bff

Jaci George-owns Real Point magazine, the boss who puts Lennon and Beckham together.
Laurel-Lennon's friend and roommate
Cheddar-Beckham's cat

Review: Beckham treated Lennon horribly in the beginning. He was brooding and grumpy, and he kept pushing Lennon away. I wouldn't put myself in Lennon's position to be hurt again. Beckham made it clear that their hookups were casual. Of course, things turn real once a child was involved.

Rating: 4****

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Micalea Smeltzer, and Montlake Publishing for the ARC!

I wasn’t sure what I was getting into going into this one. The only surprise pregnancy I’ve read is in Twilight and that was when I was in high school 😂 I wasn’t thinking it would be a trope I’d go for, but I really enjoyed this book! Lennon and Beckham’s chemistry flew off the pages and the overall plot of the book was captivating, so much so that I put off other books so that I could get this one read faster. They had great banter and took everything in stride. The chapters were all short, which made this an easy read for me, and I loved that they went back and forth with the dual pov between our two MCs. The sub-plot with Lennon’s family is something I feel that a pocket of readers will be able to relate to, and because of that, they’ll feel validation that they deserve. And the sub-plot with Beckham’s family and life journey was also very well done! Overall, as a mother, my favorite parts to read were towards the end - there are so many moments you forget when bringing a child into the world. This book brought back some of those memories for me, and only a well written book can do something like that. I would absolutely recommend Pretty Little Mistake, but if a difficult pregnancy is triggering for you, proceed with caution!

thank you NetGalley for my copy of Pretty Little Mistake!

i love micalea smeltzer’s writing, she makes stories that are so deeply captivating & this one was no exception.

pretty little mistake was a second chance, enemies to lovers, & another little surprise. i have always loved second chance & this was done very well because of the angst. i will say this book started the spice earlier than i expected but i think it matched the story very well.

lennon is starting at a magazine where coincidentally, her first love, beckham has been working as a photographer. their first chance at love was a friends to lovers, & since it all ended there was no contact. now seeing each other years later, there is still chemistry as they work on a project together.

i think my favorite component of this book was how they both dealt with their little “mistake” & how their relationship develops through this. lennon finds herself pregnant after one night & the way that this story moves on after, was so heartwarming, i loved it.

Pretty Little Mistake was a fast paced read that drew me in from the beginning.

I liked that the POV went back and forth between Lennon & Beckham. Their banter was also entertaining.

If you enjoy a surprise pregnancy, grump/sunshine, enemies to lovers, second chance romance then you will enjoy this one.
