A colorful book of interesting tidbits, Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Life Hacks collects tips from Amish household across the nation. After an informative introduction to Amish history and customs, the chapters offer “hacks” in areas including cooking, baking, cleaning, gardening, and household management. While some of the short, rather random tips and ideas could be applied in contemporary “English” (non-Amish) homes, the old-fashioned simplicity of the Amish lifestyle is evident.

Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends Life Hacks is a cookbook with basic Amish/country style housekeeping/cleaning/gardening tips with a simple style. Released 1st Nov 2023 from Barbour Books, it's 223 pages and is available in spiral bound format.

The eARC provided for review is a 58 page sample with tips arranged for the kitchen, canning & preserving, home cleaning, laundry & stain removal, home health, gardening, livestock & wildlife, crafting, and miscellaneous/uncategorized.

The photography is appealing and warm and emphasizes the comfort and simplicity of simple living with good friends and family. The typography and layout are homey, with many of the tips presented in highlighted text bars.

As with the other volumes from this author, the contributors names are listed throughout. There are very few convenience or premade ingredients here (as could be expected from the title). Almost everything is from scratch.

Five stars. (With the assumption that the rest of the recipes/tips and book quality are to the same standard as the sample provided).

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

The Amish people share their tips and tricks. I loved the quotes shared with each photo. There were so many good tips some on how to make your meal stretch, what to do if you added too much salt, simple recipes, cleaning hacks. A handy book to turn to for some ideas.

Other the learning more about the Amish culture, my absolute favorite thing about this book that it is literally full of quick tips in a list format. It so fun to read all the kitchen tips!

The only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because I have heard 3/4 of the kitchen/cooking tips from my own experiences in life or cooking. I’m really excited about the recipes, canning, and gardening tips! I could use all the help there!

Inspirational, informative and educational, Wanda E. Brunstetter’s amazing reference book of simple tips to make life easier, “Amish Friends Life Hacks—Hundreds of Tips for Cooking, Cleaning, Gardening, Wellness, and More,” is a fantastic resource for everyone because the Amish Friends way of life is to be helpful and useful from a young age, so children, young adults and elders can all benefit from the advice given in this book. Filled with stunning full-color photography throughout, Amish Life Hacks is packed with useful tips for every aspect of daily life.

Brunstetter also provides a wonderful Amish and Mennonite History at the beginning of the guide for those of us unfamiliar with the Congregations’ origins, culture, traditions and family values. Per the book, both Groups are directly descended from the Swiss and/or Dutch Anabaptists who formed in the 1500s as part of the Protestant Reformation, which I find fascinating because I grew-up Southern Baptist, and we hold some similarities with the Anabaptists—which I was completely unfamiliar.

Now, back to the Life Hacks book. In the ‘Advice from the Kitchen’ section, there are so many great suggestions that I’m definitely going to try. One that I really love is using muffin tins for lots more than baking sweet treats—like making single portions of dressing, individual stuffed peppers, baked apples, etc.

Another cool hack is putting bay leaves in the packaging with your refrigerated cheese. Who knew that bay leaves would prevent them from molding? The Amish—that’s who!! Fascinating!

Among other interesting and very useful tips in the book is a hack for separating eggs by using a funnel. The slippery whites slide down the funnel neck, while the yolks stay separate in the funnel cup.

These are just a couple of the practical tricks to make life easier that Wanda E. Brunstetter lists in this comprehensive guide to living a blessedly happy and fulfilling lifestyle.

JoyReaderGirl1 graciously thanks NetGalley, Wanda E. Brunstetter, and Barbour Publishing for this advanced reader’s copy (ARC) for review.

This books is filled with tips on household life from Amish contributors. The bulk of the sample is quick tips (a few sentences or less) on various aspects of a household like cooking/baking, canning, gardening, laundry, cleaning, sewing etc. It would be a great gift book. I love that it is spiral bound!

I thoroughly enjoyed this sample, and I have added this book to my "To Read" list on Goodreads! Some of the helpful tips and tricks were ones my own mother told me about, and I look forward to trying more of them! I think they would be very useful, especially to any housewife practicing thrift.

I have never been a big fan of "Amish romance", but I think I will explore this author's nonfiction bibliography further!

I haven’t read the entire book, but I like what I’ve read so far. It’s a compilation of tips from various sources, including many Amish women and families. Some I’ve heard of, many were new to me. Subjects include, cooking, cleaning, gardening, first aid, and sewing. If you enjoy books on home keeping, this is one to add to your collection.
