The Search Party is an atmospheric locked room mystery that takes place in the Highlands of Cornwall. When I realized that there would be many children brought along on this glamping trip, I was curious to see what the dynamic would be between the groups of adults and kids.

The book shifts through multiple POV’s as well as time frames, taking you back and forth to before the incident, and the aftermath that occurs in the hospital later on.

As the glamping trip revs up, tensions rise because of an event that occurs between two of the children. Volatile personalities between the parents come out, and the first glimpse of a potential mystery are revealed.

The knowledge of the impending storm, and the descriptions of the crashing waves along the steep cliffs of the highlands were written so beautifully. It built the intense atmosphere of how much danger the characters were in and how terrible their fate could be as the storm raged on.

What I loved about this story was that despite my best efforts to predict where the story was going, there were so many surprises along the way that I did not see coming. By the time I reached the 50% mark, I could not put the book down and had to know what was going to happen. I was totally hooked. Anyone looking for a good mystery with great characters and a wild setting will enjoy this immensely.

The Search Party is another long time friends’ reunion/get together gone wrong care of a natural disaster with a missing kid as the focal point. What’s different in this locked room mystery is that, nobody dies one by one and not everyone is a suspect. The blame is directed towards another kid who is “different” and therefore the most responsible in causing the other kid to be missing. It is unfair to judge him like that and the author does a great job teasing out the important points relating to this issue in this novel. I love the atmospheric setting, the plot itself and the secrets and dramas between the friends. The plot twist was just ok for me as I kinda guess it already, but all in all, it was still quite an enjoyable read for me. It’s my first book from Hannah Richell and it definitely won’t be my last.

The Search Party by Hannah Richell is an atmospheric thriller about a glamping trip that goes horribly wrong.

Full of twists and turns, this novel will have your guessing until the very end. It was a great read...watch out for it in 2024.

I really liked this book. I started ( and finished it ) today! It kept me engaged at all times and there were even a few wrenches thrown in to keep the reader guessing.

Unfortunately this was in a format that could not be opened on my Kindle so I'm unable to access it, and therefore, unable to provide feedback.

Thanks anyway for the opportunity.

This was a fast paced read that caught my attention for sure! Loved the setting and the premise of gathering adult friends and their families for a weekend of "glamping". Have to admit about 3/4 of the way through I found myself thinking "enough already!" Are there anymore "issues" that the author could attempt to include in this ONE novel? I generally love depth and complexity in characters but I found this a bit overdone. Would've loved to know more about Annie and really appreciated Kip. This is an intriguing read for sure but maybe tried a bit too hard? I appreciated the opportunity to receive an ARC and review it!

This was a very atmospheric, fun and fast paced book. It was quite character based for a thriller but still a page turner. I did guess the twists, but it was still a very enjoyable read. It is the perfect book to binge read on a dark and gloomy, rainy day.

I received a copy of this through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting and suspenseful, this read is a cut-above the pack, a thriller which takes the time to let complex characters simmer, the author dropping tantalizing clues (from several point-of-views and time periods) of both what’s to come and what has already transpired - not quite giving the reader enough to explain how the pieces fit together, as the stage is skillfully set for tragedy. With plenty of drama - domestic, psychological and downright criminal - the pages fly by, and the ending (which this reader did mostly guess) is satisfying on many levels, and comes far too soon.

The story features a colorful pack of fortyish friends - three men and two women - who formed a tight group twenty years ago at University in London, and still meet, although less frequently, and are now due for a major catch-up.

- Dominic is an arrogant bully, now a reality TV star with a new wife and child along with two teens with his previous partner.

- Jim and his long-term wife are wannabe hippies who appear to share a good heart along with their clan of blonde free-spirited children.

- Kira is a successful GP with a new mate and baby, and a guilt-ridden history.

- Max and Annie, now parents to an adopted twelve-year troubled child, are former architects who left the city and are now attempting to start a glamping business on their atmospheric and starkly beautiful property in Cornwall.

When Max and Annie invite the pack, families and all, for a trial run weekend at their upscale campsite, the stage is set for secrets, trauma, and of course, emotions, long bubbling away beneath the surface, to transform the the rugged cliffs and coast land into something both sinister and deadly.

Recommended for readers of high-quality suspense, this is a new author to this reader and one to definitely read more of.

A great big thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC of this book. All thoughts provided are my own.

4/5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. It was very entertaining and kept you guessing until the very end. As much as I enjoyed this book I will say I do think that there was too many POVs which made it at times hard to follow. This book is released January 16, 2023. Thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada, Hannah Richell and Netgalley for an opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.
