The Murder After The Night Before is a humorous murder mystery. Yes, thats not a typo, I meant to write humorous.

Molly is messy, makes terrible decisions and her actions get her into so much drama.
And she is witty and quite funny through all the drama and disaster that unfolds while she clumsily tries to solve her best friends murder.

There are some dark heavy topics here that somehow with humour made this a quite enjoyable read.

Definitely recommend getting a copy this June to add to your summer reads.

The Murder After the Night Before is another dark and twisted thriller by Kay Brent.

Katy’s debut novel, How to Kill Men and Get Away with It, was one of my favourite books from last year. It was dark and twisted and surprisingly funny. So, when I saw that Kay had a new book coming out that sounded just as dark, twisted, and funny, I knew I needed to read it. I am happy to say that this is another easy-to-read and very addictive story by Katy. Her books are just so easy to sink into. I started this book one night, and before I knew it, I was over halfway through it. There is a bit more of a mystery component to this story than her previous book, which I enjoyed. In this book, we are introduced to Molly, who is waking up with a terrible hangover. She has no memory of what happened the night before; what she does know is there is a gorgeous man in her bed. As the day progresses, things get progressively worse for Molly. She’s gone viral on the internet for all the wrong reasons, and she found her best friend and roommate dead in her bathtub. Molly soon realizes that there is something fishy about Posey’s death, and she will have to figure out what the hell happened that night to figure out what really happened to Posey. With some help from Jack (the gorgeous mystery man), Molly sets out to find Posey’s killer.

This is not a light thriller. Katy touches upon some dark and tough topics but does so with thought and care. There is humour in this book, but it’s a dark kind of humour, which I love. I loved that balance between this twisty and slightly horrifying mystery and these moments that had me chuckling. Some bookworms have been comparing this book to the movie The Hangover if it had a murder mystery twist to it, and I get where they can find the similarities. There are some wild moments in this book, and the banter can be fun and witty at times. Even in those darker moments in the story, the dialogue just flowed beautifully between the characters. I think that is why this book is just so easy to read.
The mystery part of this book is interesting and full of unexpected twists and turns. As I was reading this story, I loved watching all these connections form. Everything that happens in this story, happens for a reason and I thought Katy did a brilliant job at bringing everything together for that final climax at the end of the story. It was really well done.

After a wild night at her company Christmas party, Molly wakes up with a massive hangover, fully clothed beside a stranger in her bed, and finds herself trending on Twitter for reasons she can't recall due to a viral video from the night before. Feeling overwhelmed with shame, Molly seeks solace from her best friend and flatmate, Posey. But when she finally tracks down Posey, she discovers that Posey has tragically passed away. What happened the night before, and why can't Molly remember? Who is the guy in her bed, and does she even know Posey? Despite the heavy subject matter, Katy Brent's novel managed to keep me entertained and laughing from the very beginning. Molly, with all her flaws and self-awareness, is a relatable protagonist, which drew me even closer to the story. What I loved most was the unpredictable nature of the plot. Despite the presence of multiple suspects, I couldn't anticipate how the story would unfold. Even when I thought I had it figured out, the twists and turns continued to surprise me right up until the end.

I loved her previous book so was so excited about this one! Unfortunately I didn’t love it nearly as much, the writing felt rushed and yet at the same time boring. I didn’t care for the tweets and over done commentary about the viral video, it just got over the top and cringey real quick.

This book starts off slowly but builds the mystery as you continue reading. The more you read the more you want to know about what happened. (If you're offended by swearing then this book isn't for you.)

Molly Monroe, the main character, gets very drunk one evening and the next morning discovers that she's an Internet sensation due to a sexual video of her being posted online.

At first she can't remember much about the night before but details gradually return to her. Molly becomes truly shattered after she discovers her best friend and flatmate, Posey, dead in the bathroom of their flat.
Much of the mystery surrounds what story her journalist friend Posey was working on when she died and who killed her. It's frustrating to Molly that the police think Posey's death wasn't murder. though it eventually is proven to be a murder.
Cover-ups by influential people and lots of secrets exposed make this an exciting read.

Thank you Net Galley for the ARC of Katy Brent’s new novel. This was an easy read, with some interesting characters. The storyline centred around Molly, a want to be journalist, who was trying to solve some unfinished sleuthing, started by her flatmate Posey. Some parts were well written, but in general the story was a little unbelievable.

Molly wakes up after a night out not remembering anything, initially it’s not too bad, bit of a hangover no biggie. First there’s a strange man in her bed, then she finds out an embarrassing video of her has gone viral for terrible reasons and then she finds out her friend is dead. Makes you think twice about what you do the next time goes out. The book then continues, Hangover style, as Molly has to piece together what happened while she was out of it.
First off, I would check your trigger warnings. I felt terrible for Molly and also immediately connected to her. I wanted so badly to help her through her awful viral moment since it seemed she had no one in her corner. While this is, technically, a fun read it still made me think about how horrible some people can be when they’re anonymous on the internet. The mystery aspect wasn’t overly complex but I enjoyed it and I was still surprised by the ending. This was fast paced and I kept thinking about getting back to it when I wasn’t reading it

I won this e-ARC in a giveaway by Frenzy/Harper Collins Canada so thank you to them, NetGalley and Katy Brent

A pleasant mystery read with a likeable main character trying to solve her friend’s murder and in doing so, comes across buried secrets and lies. The plot touched on serious issues including trolling and the intrusiveness of social media, victim shaming, and assault.

The story was easy to read and the pacing was generally good though I never felt a sense of build up of tension leading to the ending. Speaking of the ending, parts of it seemed disconnected from the rest of the book, bringing up elements not previously discussed.

Overall, a pleasant mystery read.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this complimentary copy. All opinion’s are my own.

Thank you Netgalley, Frenzy books and Katy Brent for the ARC of this book.

My expectations were high for this book as I enjoyed Ms. Brent's previous book.

The book isn’t bad. The story itself is interesting enough. You you can’t help but feel for Molly and what she’s been through.
I wasn't crazy about the writing style. It seemed too choppy .

3.5/5. I would first like to thank the author and publisher for the arc I received of this book in exchange for an honest review! Molly Monroe is an average early 30s gal who works at a tween girl magazine. On the evening of her staff Christmas party she gets far more than she bargained for and ends up going viral online...for all the wrong reasons. On top of this new found "fame" her roommate Posey is uncharacteristically silent and not answering any of her calls...

Overall I found The Murder After the Night Before a fun and entertaining read! I enjoyed the quick change from light and fluffy to more serious as the story progressed. My only complaint was that the end seemed rushed and disconnected from the rest of the story. I think Molly's relationship with her dad could have been explored more in the beginning of the story which would have helped the ending make more sense. I general I found the twists fairly predictable and but in terms of a quick read it was still fun! It's certainly not the most intense "whodunnit" but I still had a good time! I'm definitely interested to read more from this author.

We probably all have a story about a night of drinking and doing something stupid, but for Molly a night out becomes her worst nightmare. After waking up with the worst hang over and not remembering a thing she quickly learns about a viral video of her performing a sex act. She is immediately embarrassed and concerned about what happened the night before. Things turn so much worse very quickly and it’s up to Molly to retrace her steps and solve the mystery of what happened the night before.

This was such a great read and I was completely hooked from the start and had trouble putting this one down. I know this author has another book out and I will be reading that one very soon. I know some of the themes can be triggering for a lot of people such as sexual assault and spousal abuse so be warned. Overall, this was a great thriller that kept me guessing and the ending wrapped up nicely. Highly recommmend.

So we have our main character, who has just woken up after drinking the night before ##out on the town##, and she doesn’t remember a thing. Ok so maybe a bit relatable right? (my early 20s are a blur lol) BUT THEN her roommate and best friend, Posey, is dead and she has no idea why or how.

The police say it was an accident but she just knows that Posey was murdered and is trying to prove it to the police and basically everybody else. She encounters so much along the way during her lil investigation. Lots of drama ensues and it was a good time!

I will say that the pacing felt a bit off for me and that there wasn’t even one moment where I thought to myself “whoa.. omg “ yknow? Like that moment in mysteries where it’s just like OMGGGG. I didn’t have that feeling. However, overall it was a good time!

This is the same author as How to Kill Men and Get Away With It, which I LOVED.

Thank you Harper Collins Canada for my copy of this!

After waking up from a bad hangover and next to a handsome stranger, Molly found out she went viral for doing something inappropriate…That's not even the worst part! She found her best friend, Posey, dead! Now it's up to her to find the murderer.

3.5 ⭐

This book is somewhat fun to read and also fast-paced. There was not only a murder but grievance talked about in this book. Molly had lost her mother and now her best friend. She went through a lot in this book and I felt bad for her 🥺

As for the mystery, not only there was one but two! And I love that! There were multiple suspects and I couldn't wait how it would unfold!
And wow I did not expect that ending!!

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins Canada for sending me an arc!

I loved the author's last book and couldn't wait for this latest one!! While definitely with the same strong feminist female voice, this one is less of a revenge story as it is a story about female friendship, domestic abuse, alcohol addiction, going viral for the worst reasons and of course a twisty, completely engrossing armchair murder detective story that sees one woman with a reputation in tatters after a sex tape, determined to prove her roommate was murdered even after the police have closed the case. Great on audio and a definite thriller/mystery fav so far for me this year! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy and @librofm for a complimentary ALC in exchange for my honest review!

After a drunken night out at her company Christmas party, Molly wakes up with the mother of all hangovers, fully clothed with a stranger in her bed, and trending on Twitter for reasons she does not remember after a video of her has gone viral from the night before.

All she wants to do now is die of shame – that, or be consoled by her best friend, Posey, who also happens to be her flat mate.

Molly searches everywhere for Posey, but by the time she finds her, she is no longer alive. What happened last night, and how does Molly not remember? Who was the guy in her bed, does she know him? Does she even know Posey?

This was my most enjoyable read of the year so far – despite the topic and overall tone of the book, Katy Brent still managed to make me laugh out loud from page 6.

Molly is a relatable main character; she feels real because of her flaws and her acknowledgement of them. This is one reason I felt so connected to the book and was constantly thinking about it when I put it down.

The other reason is that I had absolutely no idea where the story was going at any given time. Though there are multiple suspects right from the get-go, I never could have guessed how it would unfold, and even when the book was over 90% through, my jaw was still dropping (literally) at the twists and turns.

This gave me the same feeling I had with A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, except this is not a YA. It takes a special thriller to get me this engaged, I am so happy I got to read this one!!

Thank you HarperCollins Canada for allowing me to read this through Netgalley. It’s a 5/5 thriller, I can’t recommend it enough!

🤪 F R E A K Y 🍷 F R I D A Y review featuring “The Murder After the Night Before” by Katy Brent!

BOOK REVIEW: 🖤🖤🖤🖤/5

Molly Monroe wakes up with one hell of a hangover, some random man beside her and close to zero recollection of what happened the night before at her office Christmas party 🫠

Molly has also gone viral for a SHOCKING act caught on video while she was black out drunk. Now that the world is coming at her, Molly is desperate to piece her night back together! She needs a serious venting session with her best friend and roommate Posey … but then Molly finds her dead in the bathtub 🛁!!!!

Police deem Posey’s death as an accident and that she was heavily drinking and fell asleep in the bath. Leading up to her death, Posey was investigating the mysterious disappearance of a teenaged girl. Molly decides to take over the investigation and begins to uncover twisted secrets and lies. It becomes clear that SOMEONE did not want Posey poking around in the disappearance case … and that she was actually murdered after all!

I read this book in just three hours and could not put it down!! This witty murder mystery is fun, quirky and full of twists and turns! If you are a fan of The Flight Attendant or Killing Eve, then you will love it!

Thank you kindly to @but_katy_did_it @harpercollinsca @netgalley for my advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest review! This book releases on February 1, 2024!

Molly wakes up in her London flat with a horrible hangover, no memory of the night before and a stranger in her bed. She manages to haul herself to work only to be sent home again after learning that she is trending on social media for the worst possible reason. Later that same day, she discovers her best friend, Posey, is dead. The police think it's an accident but Molly is sure that it was murder. Molly has no choice but to deal with her shame and pull herself together so she can find out what actually happened to Posey.

The Murder After the Night Before is a well-written, fast-paced page-turner that I could not put down! I assumed from the cover that this would be a lighter read similar to the Finlay Donovan series but it covered some serious issues including grief, sexual assault, and social media toxicity narrated by Molly who has a dark sense of humour. Molly is an unforgettable character and the mystery is gripping - everyone is a suspect, nobody can be trusted and just when you think you have it figured out, there's a twist. This is Katy Brent's second novel and I have not yet read her debut but definitely will now!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Canada for sending a digital copy of this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Molly Monroe wakes up with a terrible hangover, there's a stranger in her bed and she later finds out she's gone viral for a horrific reason. She has no recollection of the events of the night before, the one thing she does know is, her best friend Posey is dead and she knows it's murder even though the cops ruled it an accident. It's now her sole purpose to track the murderer down.

I binged The Murder After The Night Before, I loved it; it was hilarious. The story covers several heavy topics however, the author expertly throws in humor to help lighten the situation. It was a bit predictable at times but there were some twists that kept me on my toes. Molly's relatable as is her friendship with several of the characters. I enjoyed how Molly developed through the story and her investigation. Overall, I found it highly entertaining with several twists and turns and dark humor.

Huge thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins for this ARC in exchange for a review.

Book is set to be published 2/29/2024.

Not only was How to Kill Men and Get Away With It the best title to read in public it was a thrilling novel so when I saw that Katy Brent had a new book I had to read it right away. And after the excitement of the first book, this one did not disappoint. It was engaging, modern, and gripping. Even when I thought it was looking like it might fall a bit flat, it quickly turned around and the ending.....you got me there. I can't wait to recommend this to my customers.
