This time the stakes are higher for Eve to find the killer (under the guise of writing the victims obituary) as the location is owned by Simon so there is a lot for her friends to lose

This is the 11th book in the series and I'm still as enthralled as when I read the first book. Eve M allow is one of my favorite protagonists. She's smart, charming and devoted to her friends. This book is full of descriptive scenery and locations and well developed characters. I'll look forward to book 12! An utterly brilliant cozy series!!

Embroiled in another murder mystery at the new Art and Crafts centre, Eve returns to her amateur detective role and is soon in danger. I like the relationship dynamics, the setting, and the mystery, which is full of twists.

Saltwater Cottages, Saxford’s new arts and crafts centre becomes the centre of a murder investigation and Eve Mallow is there to investigate. This is a great cosy murder mystery and Eve is a great character and investigator. I love that it revolves around an arts centre and arts classes and even though it is book 11 you don't really need to read the previous ones to enjoy it.

There are all the twists and turns, suspense and mystery that you would want and expect. The setting is great, the characters good and the story is very entertaining. I was drawn into the story and didn't put it down until I found out who did it. I now think I really do have to find the previous books to see it there are just as good.

Mystery at Saltwater Cottages by Clare Chase is book 11 in the always fabulous Eve Mallow Mystery series of books. Easily read as a standalone, this is yet another warm and engaging cosy mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. As always, the gorgeous writing and gentle storytelling drew me into this murder mystery tale from the outset, its gentle twists, turns, shocks and surprises keeping me on my toes throughout.

This time Eve Mallow finds herself on the hunt for a killer after the body of famous artist Nena Field is found in Blind-Eye Wood, close to the grounds of newly opened Saltwater Cottages. A new business, that offers art courses, Nena Field was a guest artist who rubbed people up the wrong way and didn’t paint them in a good light, so there is no shortage of suspects.

But who would hate her enough to want her dead? And can Eve uncover the identity of the killer before she puts her own life in danger and they turn their attention to her?

Clare Chase is so good at bringing these people and their stories vividly to life, with a cast of characters who are as entertaining as ever. This time the newly opened Saltwater Cottages takes centre stage, with the hunt for a killer taking place within its grounds. Eve is as fabulous as always and this latest cosy mystery tale, with its gentle pace and gorgeous backdrop, is as wonderful as ever and I can’t wait to read whatever Clare Chase has in store for the wonderful Eve Mallow next!

As charming as always, Mystery at Saltwater Cottages is yet another fantastic addition to the Eve Mallow series of books. A gorgeously written cosy mystery tale, this is a book I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

I've become a real fan of the Eve Mallow mystery series. In this episode Simon, the brother of Eve's friend and employer Viv, has invited many of the villagers to the festive opening of his new venue, the Saltwater cottages.
The Saltwater cottages are an upstage holiday complex that also organises art classes.
Eve and Viv are staying at the complex and Eve is supposed to write an article about the complex and the classes in order to give it good publicity.

When Eve is taking her loyal dachshund Gus out for a walk in the morning in the woods she discovers the body of Nena Field, the famous artist in residence who is supposed to give some glamour to the whole project and bring in a lot of customers.
Eve discovers right from the start that Nena was not a very likeable person so there is no shortage of suspects. However, it does seem that quite a few of them have alibis, or do they? When there is a second murder victim Eve is making an extra effort to discover who the killer is and help her friend Simon to get his business back on track. In the meantime Simon and Viv do their best to keep Eve safe while Robin is in London.
This was another very interesting and exiting episode. I really am getting fond of all the usual villagers and friends that surround Eve, and of-course I love Gus, but then I've always been very fond of dachshund's.

Eve Mallow and her best friend Viv are the first to sign up. But when guest artist Nena Field’s body is found, the art classes will have to wait. Eve begins to question all the attendees, and with the help of her friend Viv, they are running out of time and must find the killer before it’s too late.

Mystery at Saltwater Cottages written by author Clare Chase, is a wonderful addition to the Eve Mallow Mystery Series. This wonderful whodunnit was a fantastic addition to this great series. I enjoyed the story from beginning to end and with the plot twists and turns, the author kept me flying through the pages. I love Gus, the dachshund, an amazing addition to the story line. This wonderful cozy mystery is one that I enjoyed very much and look forward to Eve Mallow’s next adventure. This cozy mystery can be enjoyed as a standalone, but I definitely recommend reading this series.

Mystery at Saltwater Cottages is the 11th book in the Eve Mallow series, but can be read as a standalone story. Saltwater Cottages, is Saxford’s new arts and crafts centre, owned and operated by Simon, Eve's best friend Viv's brother. They are offering various classes in art, including a painting session by well known artist, Nena Field. Nena is a bit wild with her having affairs, drinking and making rude comments to others. While out walking her dog, Gus, Eve finds Nena's body in Blind Eye Wood, bludgeoned and left for dead. Simon is in trouble financially as the centre is shut down while the investigation goes on. Eve jumps in to help her friends with her questioning, snooping and friends to help. When another body is found, things ramp up to find a murderer before another death occurs and Simon goes bankrupt.

This was a great mystery, and I was totally engrossed in this story. Eve is a great sleuth. I love how she snoops, listens to conversations, "breaks in" to rooms to gather evidence and pretends she knows things she doesn't. She does all the things the police can't do, then passes on what she learns to her friend, the local police detective. There are a lot of suspects in this one and I was kept guessing as long as Eve was. With evidence being uncovered, each person is suspected then checked off the list, only to be added back on when she finds something else out. I thought I had it figured out, but was incorrect (I am seldom right). All the secondary characters played an important part in the story and were well developed. I love Gus, and how much he is loved by all. He also has a role in this book. If you enjoy a good cozy mystery with great characters, a well-developed mystery and one that will keep you guessing, then I recommend you pick up Mystery at Saltwater Cottages.

As I started reading I was honestly dragged right into the plot and I had to race through to find out what was going on

The ending was shocking but oh so brilliant. I have to admit that this book has everything I wanted and it was what I needed in between all the fantasy reads that got to me this season

This series impresses me more and more evey time I read one of these books. It absolutely have everything you want in a great mystery! Love the plot and characters and their development. It keeps you guessing and wanting to read more. Excellent read! Well done!

Artist Nena Field has been found dead at Saltwater Cottages and Eve Mallow is determined to find her killer. Eve is with friends Viv and Viv’s brother Simon. Can Eve question the various guests who were prepared to attend art courses in order to find the guilty party?

Eve’s queries are especially important as Simon was starting a new business and a murder on the grounds simply does not look good. Although a rather adept amateur sleuth, Eve certainly has her work cut out for her because Nena was not well liked and thus there are no shortage of suspects. Not only is Eve looking for Nena’s killer, but the work of art Nena was painting has disappeared, thus increasing the challenge of Eve’s investigation.

This thoroughly engaging story is the eleventh book in the very entertaining cozy mystery series by Clare Chase. Eve is an enjoyable character and her side story with her friendships as well as her growing relationship with her beau Robin add flavor to the mystery at hand. I would be remiss if I do not mention Eve’s adorable, dachshund, Gus. I love him in these books. This one-sitting read grabbed me from the beginning and I can’t wait for Eve’s next adventure. In fact, the next book, Mystery on Meadowsweet Grove has already be slated for May 2004 and I am eager to read it.

This is the 11th book in the series and I can't believe there's been so many!

I enjoyed this book but like it better when Robin and Eve are together and not apart. I love the dynamics between the characters and it is a fun cosy mystery although this time a tad obvious.

This is a solid and entertaining mystery but I don’t know it Clare Chase would be able to write a boring or bad mystery.
Eve and the cast of characters are enough to keep you reading till late in the night as they’re well plotted and relatable.
As Eve writes obituary anytime it’s like looking at a different side of the life of relevant people. There’s always a lot of darkness, secrets and some very dangerous enemies.
This is one of the strong point of this series: even if we know that Eve will investigate we are always feeling like she’s working and the information she’s collecting are part of her work.
I wasn’t a fan of the victim, she’s one of those characters that you hope will play a role as a victim. There’s a lot of twists and surprises and I loved the solution
Another well plotted novel that kept reading and guessing, another story that kept reading till late in the night.
Highly recommended.

I've been reading this wonderful series on and off for a while now and I can't quite believe that we're on book eleven! The series shows no signs of petering out anytime soon, which I'm glad about.

Obituary writer and amateur sleuth Eve Mallow is asked to write the obituary for infamous artist Nena Field after she is found murdered near Saltwater cottages where she was teaching. There's no shortage of suspects, making it tough for Eve to figure out whodunnit!

Eve is still her likeable yet nosy self, determined to find the killer no matter what. This time she puts herself in harm's way to help her friend Simon, who is having some financial issues made worse by the fact there was a murder at Saltwater Cottages, which he owns.

What I loved about this book was there were so many suspects, each with an equally strong motive to want Nena dead. This meant I was guessing until almost the end to who might have been the culprit, which I always find enjoyable.

If you like a good cozy mystery that has a slower pace and classic mystery vibe, then I highly recommend the Eve Mallow series to you.

Mystery at Saltwater Cottages by Clare Chase is another Eve Mallow mystery. Now that Robin’s case has been satisfactorily settled, he is no longer in hiding and has moved in with Eve, not that he’s around much. The coppers in London knew his value and kept him busy, although he stayed in constant touch. Viv’s brother, Simon, was opening a new venture comprised of places to stay as well as art classes on offer. He had managed to snag a very famous artist who had grown up right here in Suffolk, Nena Field. Eve was writing a story for one of her magazines on the opening. Eve caught her early on kissing another woman’s husband, which apparently she did for sport. Sadly it was soon after that she was discovered dead in the woods, bludgeoned to death. So started the investigation, under the guise of Eve writing her high-end obituary. So many suspects.

Eve is a terrific character. Late middle-aged, divorced, and talented. She was an expert sleuth as well as an excellent journalist. She worked part-time for her friend, Viv, in the cafe, both for fun and as a way to stabilize her income stream. She had become a regular in the village and people liked her and depended on her. Simon was married to a young woman that neither Viv nor Eve cared for, but put up with was it was obvious she adored Simon. Simon had invested a lot of money in this venture which was now at risk with the murder, and hadn’t shared that with his wife. Could Eve solve this one with Robin in London and detective Palmer in charge of the case?
It was a good adventure. It is always interesting when one discovers a sociopath on one’s own village. Good, ongoing characters and a good mystery with an interesting back story. I recommend it.

Holy Moly, we are now at number 11 in this series and absolutely no sign of flagging. Obviously it's always best to read a series from the start, and in order, and I do recommend you do that with this one too. Especially this one, with its rich and extremely wonderful characters and their pretty complicated backstories.
So... in this book we turn our sights back to Simon, Viv's brother, and his latest endeavour. Saltwater Cottages is Saxford's new arts and craft centre. And it is during opening week when things get a bit sticky. And by sticky, I obviously mean that someone gets murdered! Not just someone though, the deceased is famous artist Nena Field, found by main character Eve Mallow in the nearby woods. Luckily Eve has been at the centre from the start as she has been covering the opening for a magazine, so she has a head start on the police when they are called...
And... if you know the series already, you'll know what comes next. With the police floundering and taking the easy line - again! She manages to inveigle herself into the investigation by way of her main job as an obituary writer. But with Robin away in London finishing up on some personal business, she will have to take special care that she doesn't overstep the mark and poke the wrong bear...
I love this series. I love all the characters and how they all come together in adversity. And they have a LOT of practice of that. In fact, I am not sure why they haven't run Eve out of town, what with the rise in violent crimes since she appeared... But that's by the by and she's still there and investigating. One which has her, and me, completely baffled right up until she makes one key breakthrough.
Yes, the series is a bit formulaic but, you know what? It's a formula that works. One which lends itself well to the characters that the author has created. Every character, main and bit-part, series and episode. And she also gives these characters some very interesting stories to play out. All delivered with a no nonsense attitude to waffle or padding. And, without them, it gets on with itself very well indeed.
All in all, a cracking addition to an already impressive series. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Eve and her friend Viv are staying at Saltwater Cottages, a newly opened arts and crafts centre, when an important guest speaker is murdered. Eve begins investigating who could be responsible and finds herself in a dangerous situation.

As with the previous book, I enjoyed the writing and the mystery, but felt that a little bit too much time was spent on Eve's thoughts about the case which made the book slow in parts. Still an enjoyable read and worth four stars.

Famous guest artist Nena Field is a complete nightmare, painting everyone in a bad light. So when Eve finds her body in Blind-Eye Wood, there’s no shortage of suspects. Determined to find the killer and save Simon’s business, Eve sets to work sketching out a theory of the crime but all the chief suspects seem to have alibis, Eve is forced back to the drawing board. Then Eve has her own brush with death, and realises she must be on the right track.
The eleventh outing for Eve & whilst it could easily be read on its own I’ve loved getting to know the residents of Saxford. There are plenty of suspects, as well as secrets, revenge, twists & turns to keep you guessing. I also loved that the whole village was routing for Eve to solve the crime & to help save Simon’s new venture. Robin, now Eve’s partner, is away consulting on a case in London but is still is regular contact & offers help & advice. For once I did guess who the murderer was, but it was a guess. Another well written page turner, which I thoroughly enjoyed & look forward to sharing in Eve’s future in further books
