What an absolutely wonderful and comforting book. This new to me author really created a special and very much needed story to help our little ones get through their days and those challenges they face. The perfect saying “I’m still learning to love myself, but it’s okay. I know I can always keep trying.” is perfect to show how wonderful this is and not just for our little ones, adults need this message as well. The story shows how throughout the day even children have to face some big challenges and have to learn to love themselves. They need reminded that they can get through it all and its okay to make mistakes, to not understand things and to have to try again. The beautiful illustrations were very comforting along with the simple text made the message of this book so easy to understand, even to my 4 year old who often struggles with thinking he is okay. I love how it showed many different ways to love yourself, like trying new things, understanding big feelings and learning that we aren’t perfect. Your family will love this encouraging book and I highly recommend adding this to your home library. We are going to add the book to our library and share with others. We received this as an Ebook ARC. I also highly recommend sharing and using this book in early childhood and elementary classrooms. The message needs to be heard by all children.

I thought that this was such a special message that every kid should hear. I am a big advocate for self-love, and I think it's important to help kids practice it as well as adults. It's so important that kids learn that it is okay to make mistakes or be different, and that self-confidence and self-love is key. The illustrations played such a key role in the story with only one sentence on each page, and I felt like it was the perfect balance.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orca Book Publishers for allowing me to read this advanced readers copy of I love Myself by Wai Mei Wong!

This book was written for young readers but this powerful message of loving yourself through big feelings, trying something new, saying no, and more has me healing my inner child!

Even the most ordinary day brings challenges for us all! This book helps remind children (and adults) that it’s okay to set boundaries, make mistakes, try something new, and have big feelings. We are worthy of love through it all!

This book will make an excellent addition to any library! I plan on adding a copy to my safe space at school to read with students that need help with self love, confidence and working through big feelings!

I LOVE MYSELF by Way Mei Wong is a touching picture book that reminds our children to love themselves through all of life’s situations and feelings. The illustrations are beautiful and eye-catching and I immediately searched for the illustrator’s other works so that I could read those as well! The sentences are short — perfect for the 3 to 5 age range — and yet they pack a powerful truth for our little ones to receive.

Thank you to NetGalley and Orca Book Publishers for a free review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I Love Myself

by Wai Mei Wong
A great social emotional learning resource for teachers in elementary education. The book shows way you can love yourself. Share your love with others around you. And build self esteem of young children.

Very cute! I love the message. My son really liked the pictures as they are very bright and colorful. The message is cute and very wholesome. It's more like an allustrated collection of affirmations than it is a book as there isn't really a story to it, but it was a cute read nonetheless.

This book is a very cute way to teach young children about accepting all of who they are. There are many great conversation starters in the book. I also love the engaging illustrations. Thanks #NetGalley #OrcaBookPublishers

Not a huge fan of this book. As an adult I had a hard time understanding the message of the book. I wish it was clearer.

This is a sweet little book with beautiful and unique illustrations.

I really loved some of the ways we can teach kids how or when to love themselves…. One in particular was “I love myself when I say no” what a brave and beautiful page for a children’s book.

I would definitely purchase this for a friend of a kindergarten classroom.

Colorful, emotive illustrations that are accompanied by “I love myself when…” could be useful as a tool to talk to little ones about self love, but didn’t have enough of a through line for me.

It was okay. I think the message is a very beautiful one of self-compassion and the words give a mantra of being able to love yourself and learning to love yourself.

I Love Myself is beautiful in the colorful images accompanying the simple examples of the positive self-talk adults can teach children to use.

I admired how Wai Mei Wong used simple, every day occurrences and events to relay how to love ourselves in this moments, whether mundane or exciting. The biggest take away from this book is the last page - “I can keep trying” - and it is a message that children and adults alike should continue to hear and tell themselves.

I will definitely be gifting this to my friends’ children as a bedtime read and to build their libraries up. I would even love to see this in pediatrician’s offices and school classroom libraries!

"I love myself when I say, "I'm enough.""

I Love Myself takes children through the day of an adorable kiddo who is learning how to love herself through easy and challenging things. I thought that this story was well-illustrated and told. It is no surprise that mental health is always being discussed, especially since COVID-19. I think this book does a great job of teaching little ones the importance of trying hard things and loving yourself/giving yourself grace through it all. It has a simple message that kids need to hear about to develop habits of caring for themselves. I definitely plan to read this story with my Goddaughter when it is out in physical form!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this story. All thoughts/opinions are my own.

I loved this! My son is actually riding with training wheels currently so the illustrations really resonated with him and encouraged him more to keep going, even if he falls! In general, this book encouraged him to be confident and love himself no matter of the downfalls or upsetting moments. He loved it! The Book was great to me as well, we could all use a reminder to love ourselves. The illustrations were absolutely breathtaking and well done! Loved everything about this!

I received this book from NetGalley to read and review. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book with my son.

I enjoyed this short children's book about self love. It is a nice, simple read for young kids who may be easily frustrated with themselves. The art is colorful and pleasant. The book reads like a self-affirmation with repetition on every page. Some of the relatable scenarios are very common childhood hurdles: training wheels when everyone else is on 2 wheels, getting back up after a fall, independent play with reading and coloring, and setting boundaries. If I were to change the book, it would be to make the puddle jumping page feel more cohesive- it doesn't quite make sense to me- was she doing that instead of jump roping? if so, why the self isolation? why did she fall? The idea of getting back up is better portrayed with the bike fall as that makes more sense in the narrative. I'd also like to see the girl trying the jumprope. The final sentiment is a sweet reminder that it's an ongoing process: "I'm still learning... I can always keep trying." This is a nice book and can be a good conversation starter with an insecure kiddo struggling with self love.

Title: I Love Myself
Author: Wai Mei Wong

Even an ordinary day is full of challenges, especially when you’re a kid.

In this soon-to-be-published picture book, we follow a young girl on her daily adventures. She’s just learning to ride a bike and has to use training wheels, but that’s okay. She still loves herself. She jumps, splashes, and falls in a mud puddle, but that’s okay. She still loves herself. In school, she sits alone and reads a book while the others in her class sit together. That’s okay she still loves herself.

In this picture book about self-esteem, your child will learn that they don’t have to be perfect at everything they do. They can just be themselves and love themselves for it.

Super cute book. I love books that I can relate to no matter what genre. Learning to love yourself is a topic for any audience. The character in the book loves who she is no matter what she is doing or failing at. I feel like this book could benefit a young person who is trying to figure themselves out and build confidence.

A great picture book for kids. The pictures are really interesting and colorful. This book tells kids that it is okay to fall and stand up and try again.
Aimed for kids aged 3-5.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
