Great Read

I received an advance review copy for free from Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you Chris Sarracini for the opportunity to read your book. This was an enjoyable read. This is a manga story about Sagat. He is one of the characters in the popular Street Fighter videos games. I really liked seeing his origin story. I was interesting to learn about Sagat’s past and everything that happened to him to make him the video game character he is. Also, I thought the illustrations in this manga were great. The pictures illustrated the story perfectly. I just find it really cool that a video game character such as Sagat can be told in a manga format. I hope to read other characters origin stories. I cannot wait to read more from this author. Overall, a great read.

Video game characters don't often have too much background to them, Fighting game characters usually have less, even when they've been around for more than thirty years, so it's nice when people think to fill in the background and give more to the character. Will it make any difference to how you play them in the game? Not one bit, but it makes the character that bit more real and when you've been around them as long as I have (Street Fighter 1 in the Arcades), it's a cheerful read.

This is Sagat before he became the scarred warrior looking for revenge, consumed by the need to be the greatest, the number one, the god of fighting once again, it tells of his struggles and his desires, his want to make a difference in the world by means other than his fists (although his fists to play a significant part in what he does), and that he only wanted a place where his people could be safe, watched over by him.

Artwork is superb, little bit too much on the hyper muscular side, but that's not uncommon these days, and the fight scenes are clear, you can see each move lead to the next and the action is matched by an equally muscular script, leading to a cliffhanger, and as much as I hate cliffhangers, the last fight is against an opponent who you only see the leg of, wearing a white Gi.

Good story, good background, and by all accounts, there's more to come, so interested in seeing if they can flesh out the character any further.

As always, thanks to Netgalley and Udon for the free copy in return for an honest review, no other inducements have been given, my words are my own.

I'm a fan of the game Street Fighter and the character Sagat. This is a great origin story for the character. It was interesting and helps you to understand the character more. It makes you like the character even more after reading the story. The art work is also great. Overall, great story and art work. A must read for any fan of Street Fighter.

As someone who enjoyed playing the street fighter games as a kid, I was very excited to read this graphic novel. It was very nostalgic seeing Sagat's backstory through his evolution. I also really enjoyed the extra art at the end of the book. Looking forward to more work in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The vidoe game Street Fighter which was introduced to me by my eldest siblings is part of the pop culture. I love playing with Chun Li, Ryu, Dhalsim and so on. However, I didn't like Sagat, he was in the bad guys team, so to see him here as a hero was a bit odd. It was a cool graphic novel with the fight scenes and everything but it's not a fave.

Good artwork, good story, makes Sagat look like a good guy while still being an absolute savage. Great job setting up the character for the game.
