Another book centered around amnesia. Could you imagine if this happened to you!? I honestly couldn’t, how scary. If that wasn’t scary enough, this was a birthday party from hell!! I will say no more! You have to check out this dark and thrilling novel with all the twists!

I had so many feelings throughout this book. Annoyed at Katelyn’s same thoughts on repeat but at the same time scared for her not knowing what happened and who to trust. And did she even remember thinking those same thoughts earlier? Sad for her world that came crashing down around her. I really connected to her childhood.
Thank you so much Bookouture, Nicole Trope, and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and honestly review this book.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book. What did I just read? This was great! Very suspenseful domestic thriller!! The characters and story were very well done and kept me guessing. I did not see that ending coming.

I thought this was a good book, but it moved a little slow. The twist at the end was surprising though, so I enjoyed it!

This was a great book that had me guessing to the end.

The characters were wonderfully written and I loved the storyline. It was the perfect length - wasn’t too long and dragged out but also wasn’t too short that important bits of the story were missing.

Would definitely recommend.

This was a gripping and domestic suspenceful thriller and was thoroughly enjoyable. I thought I succeeded the plot out, however I did not. I didn’t engage well with many, if not any of the characters and their personality but sometimes a book with compulsive characters are just what we need!

3.5stars!
Ooohhhh this one is scandalous! I finished in just 5 hours and how I wish I was a fly on the wall during that party and even after it with a big bowl of popcorn to keep me company.
The twist- yeah, yeah! I did not see that coming and I was dumbfounded! I feel bad for Katelyn’s childhood but I am happy with how her life turn around!
Thank you Netgalley! It was fun!

I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

I could not wait to see how the plot would play out. There were so many lies, secrets and betrayal that I didn't believe or trust anyone. So brilliant! Hold on tight because you are in for a wild ride with this book.

This is a workmanlike thriller; I found it a little annoying in places but overall quite gripping.

Katelyn is celebrating her birthday surrounded by her husband, her best friend, and a large group of friends. She should be having the time of her life.

But Katelyn wakes up in hospital, suffering from a form of amnesia. She can’t remember anything about the party. A flash or two of the lead up, maybe, but essentially the whole day and night are gone.

Naturally Katelyn asks her husband what happened at the party. But when he says nothing remarkable happened, she can tell that he’s lying. Her best friend, Leah, is acting weird too. Katelyn is terrified. What happened to trigger her memory loss? What aren’t these two people, the two she trusts most in the world, telling her?

My biggest problem with this novel is that for quite a long time, Trope is with-holding what happened not only from Katelyn, but from the reader as well. This leads to some really contrived mental monologues from Toby and (especially) Leah, as Trope dances around specifics. I did not like this part of the novel much.

However, once things start coming out, I found the novel much more gripping. It moves fast, and once Trope moves into revelation mode, the narrative flips between different characters with great effect, smoothly revealing small details from each that knit into a whole.
While some plot points are a little predictable, others are more unexpected. The result is a plot that makes it hard to put the book down, keeping readers strongly engaged to the end.

The characters are strong too. Trope tells chapters from different viewpoints – primarily Leah and Katelyn, and makes sparing but effective use of flashbacks. Each character is believable and rounded.

Importantly, the almost life long friendship between Katelyn and Leah is well drawn. We see some of the ups and downs, and the tensions that aren’t always articulated, as well as the things that draw them together. This friendship is at the heart of the novel, and the novel would fall flat if this relationship wasn’t so well articulated.

So, despite my initial irritation at some of the contrivance, this was overall a pretty good book. It’s not outstanding, but it’ll keep you absorbed, entertain you, and probably surprise you a little towards the end. If you like domestic thrillers, you should give this a try – it probably won’t disappoint.

Omg this was an absolute corker, this is a compelling and emotionally charged novel that dives into the aftermath of a tragic event.

Once again Nicole provides, and as you explore the lives of the characters dealing with guilt, grief, and the consequences of their actions you get dragged in further and further., until your head is spinning!!

It starts off with Katelyn and her husband Toby inviting guests for her birthday party. However the next day, Katelyn wakes up in hospital with no memory of what happened last night. As she tries to piece together the events she finds Toby is evasive and her friends ignoring her! So what on earth happened????

This one grabbed me straight away and I loved every minute of it, I couldn’t stop reading and just when I thought I had it all figured out, there would be.another twist thrown at me to send me reeling again.

A must read for 2024!!!

The Day After the Party by Nicole Trope follows main character Katelyn as she is celebrating her 36th birthday with friends and family at her home. But the next day, Katelyn wakes up in the hospital with no memory of how she got there or why she is there.

This story goes back and forth between Katelyn and her best friend Leah. It grips you from the beginning and makes you want to continue reading to figure out what is going on and who Katelyn can trust. We are shown glimpses of Katelyn and Leah's pasts and as things are revealed, the plot thickens. I recommend this book for anyone who loves dark, twisty thrillers and will definitely be trying another novel by Nicole Trope.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This book was a bit too repetitive for me. I just didnt get that wow factor. It was confusing at times which made it hard to follow.

The friendship between Leah and Katelyn keeps you on your toes. Jealousy, betrayal, and lies….who can you trust? While the character dynamics are somewhat relatable, this book spent a lot of time repeating the same scenarios. The beginning of the book spends a lot of time explaining the beginning of Leah and Katelyn’s friendship. There wasn’t really a big twist or anything I didn’t expect. It was a 3 star read for me.

Reading Between the Wines book review #15/130 for 2024:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book: The Day After the Party
Author: Nicole Trope

Sipping thoughts: I had never heard of what traumatized Katelyn into forgetting hours of one day. It was very interesting, and if true, it seems the author did a lot of research. This book is about friendship, love, lust, and loyalty. It is great to see childhood friendships extend into adulthood. But what happens if you outgrow those relationships? I think this is what has happened to Katelyn and her best friend Leah. Friendship that has been outgrown as well as secrets that you should never keep from your best friend.

Cheers and thank you to @Bookouture and @Netgalley for an advanced copy of @TheDayAfterTheParty.

I really enjoyed this one! Katelyn and Leah have been best friends since they were six years old. Or have they? Jealousy runs rampant through this story as one friend strives to have what the other one has. I tried to figure out early in the book what was going to happen, but I was pleasantly surprised. I’ll be looking out for other books by this author now, particularly because I love the style of writing she has.

This book was definitely a page turner where I just wanted to know what actually had happened from the start, it has many different twists which made me hooked and it was impossible to understand what actually happened until the end. I enjoyed reading this and did so in only a few hours, I definitely will try to read more from this author!
