Lola Meets the Bees is an adorable and information packed picture book for the youngest readers by Anna McQuinn. Released 9th April 2024 by Charlesbridge, it's 32 pages and is available in hardcover format.

Little Lola goes with her mom to visit a family friend who has beehives. Lola is fascinated to learn about bees and how they gather nectar and pollen. The whole adventure is illustrated very well by Rosalind Beardshaw. The pictures are colorful and detailed and show the life-cycle of the bees and a simplified explanation of what beekeepers do and how they help the bees.

The text is written in simple and understandable free verse and will be understood by even very young kids. Lexile measure is AD560L (2-5 years).

Five stars. This would be an excellent choice for public or school library acquisition, reading circles, or bedtime reading.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I am in love with the Lola and Leo series from Ann McQuinn and this is no exception. This lovely early introduction to bees is full of adorable illustrations, simple yet informative text, and an easy to follow storyline. Readers will join Lola as she visits her aunt's rooftop garden in the city and gets to learn about keeping bees. She learns how to put on a beekeeper's suit, how to use smoke to calm the bees, and more.

Perfect for ages 2-6 and preschool storytimes.

Lola wants to learn about bees and beekeeping from her mother’s friend Zora. Lola learns all about different aspects of beekeeping and then plants a garden of her own to help the bees.

I read this book with my niece and nephew in the hopes that they’ll ask more questions about bees and want to learn more since my fiancé and I are beekeepers. The book covered many important aspects of beekeeping and is a great educational tool for young children. The illustrations aided in the storytelling and were well done.

Thank you to NetGalley and Charlesbridge for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. #NetGalley #LolaMeetstheBees

Lola meets the bees is an informative read with a simple prose great for children. With its simple and easy writing children can read this book independently without the help of their parents.
I loved that the author talked about the endangerment of bees and ways we can stop it from happening.
The book also talks about the different kinds of bees, how they make honey and what each of the bees’ roles are.
I really liked how cute and informative the book was. Highly recommend.

I really loved everything about this. Thanks to Anna McQuinn, Charlesbridge, and NetGalley for letting me read an advanced copy. Kids can learn about bees, not just in the wild, but in a city environment so they can see how they can interact with nature and be responsible no matter where they live. Lola is adorable, and I'm going to check out her other books.

We are big Lola fans in our house! My daughter always wants to be her!

Lola meets her mums friend, Zora, who is a bee keeper. Zora keeps beehives on the roof of her apartment.

Lola meets the bees is such a wonderfully written, illustrated and informative book.

It explains to the young reader in an accessible where bees live, how to look after them, the importance of them and the dangers of them.

There is also a super handy adult part at the beginning of the book in case you get a bee sting and what you should do.

Bees! Raised in hives on a rooftop in town! Who knew? We learn about the work bees do and why we need them while also learning that all bees are not raised in meadows or very large backyards.
The illustrations by Rosalind Beardshaw are delightful, imaginative, clear, and colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, and even to a school or teacher or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Charlesbridge via NetGalley. Thank you!

I adore this whole series! I especially love this book in that it feels like fictions but it’s layered with nonfiction. And how lovely that it might help educate kiddos who are afraid of bees!

This series is one of my absolute favorites. I adore Lola and all of her books. As a librarian, I read them year after year to my early childhood students.

This is a delightful little story that teaches children about the critical role that bees play in our ecosystem, without ever making the learning seem like work.

Lola and Zora are cute characters, the diversity element was nice to see, and I especially loved how Lola was growing her own bee-friendly plants by the end of the book! Highly recommended for young children.

This is a lovely, simple intro to beekeeping. Lola is sweet and curious. The pictures are peaceful and sweet. This works fine as a standalone or can be read as part of the Lola series. The description says it's about urban beekeeping, but interested future beekeepers of all varieties can learn something here.
