Maya is obsessed with cooking. Imagine how she feels when her parents told her they’ve signed her up for a cooking summer camp? She’s elated. But apparently things got mixed up and she ended in Dracula Summer Camp. Which is actually for vampires only.

It was just okay at first but the story kept getting better as it went on. The bonding in Maya’s cabin, all the mischief and mayhem they committed, the misunderstanding and personal struggles, which eventually led to a beautiful friendship. I love the character developments especially in Maya and Alex. So fun and heartwarming, I liked it.

I can't say that there is anything especially unique or moving about this graphic novel, nor is there anything special about the art - but it is so funny and entertaining that I am thankful to have read it and look forward to recommending it to library patrons upon publication!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

What a fun graphic novel! It follows Maya, a slightly awkward girl, who after a lonely school year goes to summer camp. Except, she accidentally goes to a summer camp for Vampires! This graphic novel was absolutely adorable and a fun read. I really loved how it showed Maya slowly relaxing and realizing it's okay to be herself, no matter what others might think of you. The art style was super simple but added to the charm of the graphic novel. I honestly loved it!

The story had such an interesting premise ... a human girl accidentally signing up for vampire summer camp instead of culinary. The graphics were really good and smooth. My 10yo also read it and loved it! Looking for something quick and cute? This is that something.

Thanks for the ARC, Netgalley!

Summer Vamp is a really fun graphic novel, of a girl who is supposed to go to culinary camp but ends up at a camp for vampires. I loved the main character's journey in getting more confident and making friends. The text was easy to read and I loved the illustrations.

Aw. Holy Pony. I cry with the most random things. This is an amazing graphic novel, hilarious, and such an homage to friendship. I just laughed out loud and the last page made me tear up.

Almost 13 years old Maya loves cooking, following her favorite Yotuber's recipes but she doesn't have friends and she takes the news of having a stepmom badly so her father sends her to a Summer Camp (Cooking is the focus) there is a mistake and she ends in a Vampire Camp. So many hilarious scenes. I love the artwork, the expressions, and the story. This is one I will collect as a physical copy.

The Vampires are friendly and they have all sorts of regular activities just like a regular summer camp, including tag, mean girls, games, and teamwork, but what they don't have is cooking workshops. At first, Maya is trying to get away from this camp, but then she makes new friendships and learns to have fun. She even conquers her fears with a little help from her new friends. Made me want to join them!

Bumblebee For Life! ahah! I so wanted to eat Maya's crepes and they used them in a food fight! Oh NO!

Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this e-arc.

This was such an adorable graphic novel! I was drawn in by the art but the story was just as cute. A human girl accidentally goes to vampire summer camp instead of culinary camp and makes friends for the first time.

This was wholesome and great for anyone who just wants a quick and easy graphic novel to read. Perfect for middle grade and everyone else(:

A cute and engaging story about spending the summer at the wrong camp! Supposed to go to Camp Umami, Maya ends up at Camp Dracula instead. Will she make it through the summer? Or will her new friends want to drink all her blood?

First as always, big thank you to Net Galley and publisher for a copy <33

This has to be one of my favorite reads so far this year, I was in love with everything from art style to characters. Summer Vamp is a middle grade graphic novel that follows Maya after she accidentally gets onto a bus for the wrong summer camp. Instead of going to a culinary camp, she ends up at a camp for vampires. She spends the next few weeks trying to pretend to be one of them, as well as encountering the struggle of fitting in.

For a middle grade graphic novel it was a really cute read and even if it was intentional I think it really expressed anxiety for that age group. I didn’t feel like the characters were in realistic and i really liked it wasn’t super dramatic or over done in some spots.

Thank you to the publisher and the author for providing me a copy through Netgalley!

This was a delightful graphic novel, about a human tween who accidentally ends up at the wrong summer camp- a camp for vampires! Maya loves cooking, and has a talent for it, and plans to attend a culinary summer camp. However, mistakes were made and she ends up at a summer camp for young vampires! Add some quirky adventures and some delightful humor, as well as some relatable situations that tweens, teens ( and adults too) may feel regarding feeling awkward and lonely at some point in time, this graphic novel is a fun and relatable read!

The humor and hilarious situations in the graphic novel are definitely current to today's tween and teen humor, and makes for an enjoyable read. The author did a fantastic job portraying not only the awkwardness of middle grade, but also the importance of friendships and trust.

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of the Graphic Novel.

The Good:
-Super cute artwork and character design
-Relatable story with a cute message of acceptance

The Meh:
-Seriously, who doesn't make sure their kid gets on the correct bus to summer camp? But without the mishap, there would be no story so suspension of disbelief on that one.
-Did I miss the backstory on why Maya was afraid of large bodies of water?

I'm a sucker for summer camp stories. I wanted to go to one so badly as a kid but never did. This was super cute. I would definitely recommend it to middle school students.

Dive into the fang-tactic adventure of Maya, a culinary enthusiast who finds herself at the wrong summer camp—for vampires! In Violet Chan Karim’s delightful middle-grade graphic novel, Maya navigates a camp filled with pale, garlic-hating, fanged campers, realizing that maybe humans and vampires aren’t so different after all. As the only human, she embarks on a quest to hide her true identity, conquer fears, and, perhaps, make some undead friends along the way. With a blend of humor and heart, “Summer Vamp” is perfect for readers who enjoyed “Be Prepared” and “Camp.”

This is the sweetest book ever. It was so good on discovering that it's not the camp that you are sent to it's the friends you discover at camp. I highly recommend it.

This is such a fun middle grade graphic novel about Maya, who mistakenly boards the wrong bus to summer camp. Instead of spending the summer at culinary camp (her dream come true!) she ends up on the bus headed to Camp Dracula, a camp just for vampires!

As the only human in camp, Maya is forced to hide her human-ness, but eventually realizes that maybe humans and vampires aren't so different after all. With the help of her new friends, can Maya finally conquer her fears and learn to stand up for herself?

Perfect for fans of "Be Prepared" and "Camp," this one will fly off the shelves!

Maya's love for cooking inspires her dad's girlfriend to register her for culinary camp. After a year that hasn't gone so great, this could be the thing that turns everything around for her.
When Maya arrives at camp, it is nothing like she expected- and the other campers all seem a little odd. Summer camp becomes summer vamp when she realizes that she is going to have to survive being surrounded by vampires!

This book was adorable. I appreciate the take on vampires as average kids who crave friendship more than they crave blood! :D

Delightful! Loved the story of friendship and being comfortable in who you are with a vampire twist. I also shared this with my 11-year-old niece who devours graphic novels and she thought it was a lot of fun.

Maya had a disappointing school year with no friends, and now her dad's girlfriend wants to move in. She likes her dad's girlfriend, but isn't thrilled about the move, until she finds out she is also going to culinary camp! there is nothing Maya loves more than cooking! But when she gets to camp, there's no cooking, just normal camp activities. And when Maya realizes her campmates have pointy teeth and ears, like vampires, she knows she needs to escape!

This is a perfect graphic novel for kids! It hits all the marks with a compelling story, adorable artwork, and some insanely funny moments.

Human and vampire kids CAN be friends, is what Maya discovers when she accidentally boards the wrong bus headed for Vamp Camp. Kids are going to swipe this off the shelves in January!!

A human kid ends up at the wrong summer camp—FOR VAMPIRES!
🧛🏻‍♀️
Maya can’t wait to attend cooking summer camp after her dad’s girlfriend registers her for a culinary experience. Too bad she gets on the wrong bus and ends up at a summer camp for vampires. They’re pale, hate garlic and have pointy fangs! Now Maya has to figure out a way out of the camp before they realize she’s human, but maybe she’ll make some friends first.
🧛🏻‍♂️
What an adorable MG graphic novel by @violchan I think fans of Be Prepared and Camp will love this one just as much. I know it won’t stay on my shelves long when it releases January 1.
