Very good resource about the carnivore diet. I was recommended that diet by a friend and this book gave me some instructions. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
I really enjoyed this book gave a new look into diet. I am not new to dieting I just really enjoy cookbooks and food. this book was interesting and was for of a lot of information on a new and different diet. Being a person who has many medical conditions and having a husband with just as many trying to find a balance can be difficult. I love everything about this book but being that my husband has heart conditions this might have its limits in my home. I am still considering buying I do enjoy cookbooks and learning new things this book seems like it would be a great addition to my collection.
Thanks to netgalley and the author for the opportunity to review this book
I received an ARC from NetGalley and I wasn't able to finish the book (44.23%) as it disappeared from my Adobe Digital Editions. All my notes are in there and I can't reload the book. I did not know a book could expire. TIL.
Very informative. Very well organized which helped understand the what but also the why behind the carnivorous diet. Nutrition and big life changes can feel overwhelming but the book broke down concepts in digestible bite size (pun intended) and make it comprehensible. I particularly appreciated the big concept being presented then having a ‘the carnivorous advantage’ section for each. It also had recipes and whole day example of a carnivorous diet. Very helpful and well-thought out.
The Complete Carnivore Diet for Beginners delivers exactly what it promises-COMPLETENESS. This isn’t just a recipe book with a few charts in it. This book explains the WHAT as well as the WHYS of the carnivore diet in an easy to understand manner that those just being introduced to the carnivore lifestyle can grasp and apply. There is a recipe section near the end of the book that will allow the beginner to get started. As soon as the book’s publication date arrived, I ordered a hard copy so I can make lots of notes and mark pages. I absolutely recommend this book for anyone who wants to understand the carnivore diet, whether to get themselves started or to better understand a family member’s decision to adopt a carnivore lifestyle.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
I was thoroughly surprised by this book. I went into it with a completely open mind and with the current belief that every body requires a different diet and not a one-size-fits-all approach as many people preach nowadays. As a healthcare practitioner myself that has tried several diets for experimentation and for personal health reasons, I did appreciate that the author acknowledged this as well. There is a lot of information out there on nutrition and the right way to eat and a lot of bias in research. I did not look through the cited research in this book but would definitely come back to it in the future.
I also liked the way that the author introduced other lifestyle and wellness habits that I completely agree with should be done alongside any dietary changes.
It's a great introduction to a new way of eating that may not be for everyone but I believe the research for this specific topic is especially lacking for women. There are practical tips as well as sample meal plans and in a way to make this diet a little more accessible.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a copy of this book for review.
Diet trends go round and round, and one diet that has become very trendy is the Carnivore Diet. For those who are interested in changing their eating habits and following a diet of mostly meat will definitely want to pick up a cookbook, The Complete Carnivore Diet for Beginners: Your Practical Guide to an All-Meat Lifestyle
The first chapters of this cookbook are comprised of information and the benefits of meats, eggs, and other components of a carnivore diet. The information is very interesting and helpful for anyone who eats, whether it be plant based, meat based, or a mix. There are meal plans, and instructions for adding plant based foods into the carnivore diet. The book is more of a textbook on the carnivore diet, than a cookbook. While the information is valuable, most readers will be disappointed that there are very few recipes to use while changing their dieting lifestyle. The book definitely needs good recipes, and that’s what it lacks.
Another thing that was expected was photographs of the dishes. While there are photographs included in many of the chapters showing meats, poultry, and fish that are acceptable to the diet, there aren’t photos of the recipes.
All told, this cookbook is full of good information. It isn’t however, what one would expect in a cookbook. There are most likely better cookbooks on this subject out there.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
If you have no knowledge of the carnivore diet and what it entails, this would be a great starting point. It goes through the basics, the general science and the why's, as well as recipes. Although this is a pretty niche diet, the book feels pretty well-rounded from a health standpoint. It feels well researched and accessible. Would recommend if this way of eating interests you! I will say, I have watched most of Laura's youtube videos and really enjoy her non-nonsense, very down to earth attitude, so this may have biased my review in the slightest. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to provide my honest review.
Sadly this book won’t work for me. Not because of the diet but because I have a family history of heart disease. If you don’t this could be a good book for you.
The author explains the diet well and sets you up to succeed.
Nicely written book on how to incorporate a Carnivore diet into your everyday life.
Laid out and Written so it’s easy to understand. I especially enjoyed the explanation of vitamins and minerals. There’s so much information that you could read it multiple times and find something new.
I was surprised but pleased to see information on other aspects on one’s life (ie. sleep & stress to name a few)in order to help the reader make changes in more ways than just diet. Very nice addition.
Lovely photos, drawings and lists to help the reader succeed.
This is a guide for an all-meat diet. It emphasizes the importance of protein in your diet and how to formulate a carnivore diet best.
This book is very beautiful and informative. It gives a good, in depth, overview of the carnivore diet and does it in a way that is easy to understand. I have followed Judy Cho and Laura Spath for a few years now and really like how they are always very level with their information. I definately think this is worth the read even if you do not choose to follow this path. I think this book could also make it easy for those who want to follow a temporary elimiation diet to help with gut and other internal issues.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
I read this thoroughly and with an open mind but it absolutely did not convince me of the health of this diet. The author does so much fear mongering about eating anything but meat. She states opinions as facts even when they’re wildly questionable. She says things like vegetable farming kills far more animals than cattle farming (she counts insects among the animals, along with rodents, birds and wildlife shot by vegetable farmers).
Cho describes being seriously mentally ill 9 years ago at the culmination of 12 years of mental illness and eating disorders. She was institutionalized and put on heavy medication. She then started experimenting with other diets like keto and then 5 years ago started eating only meat. In that time, she has branded herself a wellness expert and says she has seen a thousand clients whom she helped transition to an all meat diet.
While Cho seems sincere and intelligent, I can’t help but get the impression that she’s traded one kind of disordered eating and mental illness for a new one. I’m glad she feels healthy and happy, but I strongly disagreed with most of her nutritional information.
I see that fans of the author and her coauthor have already started leaving glowing reviews ahead of the book‘s publication and I will probably get blasted by them for this review, but I was not convinced and I felt that data was skewed and cherry picked when not outright false.
For those who want to try this diet, this will be a good resource— hence two stars (goodreads says two means it was okay) rather than one. For me personally, it was a one.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
This book presents a very interesting hypothesis when considering a carnivore diet. I had never heard of such a diet and wondered how a diet with very little vegetable matter was a healthy lifestyle choice. This book did not dissuade me from a diet high in fruits and vegetables. An interesting read.
Judy Cho and Laura Spath are highly influential within the Carnivore community. They are also at the calmer, more considered end of the spectrum. The health benefits that both of these women have experienced is huge. Having followed their YouTube channels, and listened to their podcast, Cutting Against the Grain, I have heard so much of their health struggles prior to discovering the Carnivore lifestyle.
What you will read in The Complete Carnivore Diet for Beginners, is their genuine experience, not just theories.
This book is the perfect place to start, if you have heard of the Carnivore way of life, and have had your interest piqued. Or you have a friend or relative who has decided to eat this way, it will allay your fears. Many who have not tried Carnivore, believe it to be a highly damaging lifestyle. This book will put the record straight. Knowledge is power.
The book addresses many common questions asked around the Carnivore lifestyle.
How can Carnivore be a healthy lifestyle without Vitamin C?
How is Carnivore (eating methane producing cows) impacting the environment?
How can you bear to kill animals to eat? As opposed to eating a plant based diet where no animal life is harmed.
I highly recommend this very comprehensive guide to starting the Carnivore lifestyle.
The Complete Carnivore Diet for Beginners is a handy guide that goes through everything someone new to the carnivore diet would want to know. The author begins with introducing her own experiences with having multiple health problems on a plant-based diet and how everything got better when she transitioned first to keto, and then to carnivore.
The book goes through reasons to switch to carnivore, how to get started with it, recipes and meal plans, and how to deal with practical difficulties and solutions. The format is easy to follow, and well illustrated, with many notes and studies referenced. This really is everything a person could want to know when considering trying a carnivore diet.
I should have really read the blurb because this was definitely not what I expected it to be. I thought it would be recipes about meat, meat and more meat. Instead it talks about the macros of food and the way meat should be considered within a diet. Interesting and informative and seeming,y accurate so not a bad book. Just not the one for me.

Great resource about this diet, I’ve been looking into this concept as I’m Gluten Free and the American food system. This book give substances and knowledge to back the diet unlike any other books I’ve read concerning a healthy diet to take on. I highly recommended this book to anyone interested in looking into this lifestyle diet.
The Complete Carnivore Diet for Beginners is an excellent resource if you are interested and/or considering a carnivore / meat diet. The book starts with information on why the Standard American Diet and traditional plant-based diets are not healthy, how the Carnivore diet is a healthier, often more affordable and even more environmentally friendly food lifestyle than plant-based diets.
The book then goes into different variations of carnivore diets, what you will eat and where the best sources are for quality affordable food. It also gives a lot of advice about how to transition to this lifestyle, including social eating. Finally, we are treated to a number of tasty carnivore recipes.
Overall, this is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning more about the Carnivore diet and considering it as a healthier alternative to the way they currently eat.
