Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, so I was happy to check out π˜•π˜°π˜°π˜₯𝘭𝘦𝘴, π˜™π˜ͺ𝘀𝘦, 𝘒𝘯π˜₯ 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘡𝘩π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘱π˜ͺ𝘀𝘦. Christina de Witte and Mallika Kauppinen take an innovative approach to cookbook writing, using a comic book-inspired style to instruct readers on how to prepare dishes. With cute illustrations and friendly copy, the writers present their backgrounds; introduce Thailand and its food; discuss tools and equipment needed; and even give a tour of an Asian supermarket as well as tips on ingredients. They then go on to share recipes, divided into snacks and starters, noodle dishes, rice dishes, soups and curries, desserts and drinks, and staples and condiments. I’m excited to try cooking some of my favorites, like Tom Kha Gai and Pad See Ew in particular.

This is a unique and fun cookbook. But I suppose I am a bit of a traditionalist in that I would like more actual photography of the prepared dishesβ€”there are some mixed in with the illustrations here and there, but I think including even more real images would be more appealing and inspiring to the home cook. Nonetheless, I find π˜•π˜°π˜°π˜₯𝘭𝘦𝘴, π˜™π˜ͺ𝘀𝘦, 𝘒𝘯π˜₯ 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘡𝘩π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘱π˜ͺ𝘀𝘦 to be a great recipe collection that is both educational and delightful.

This book is well written and very interesting with its how-to as well as the history of the dishes. I would have liked more photos, at least one of each dish.

What a beautiful journey into Thai culture and cuisine!

I'm a big fan of both comics and food, so I jumped at the chance to take an early look at Noodles, Rice and Everything Spice. Christina and Mallika start by introducing their own ties to Thai culture and how they met before jumping into 6 sections full of mouthwatering recipes. The book covers Snacks & Starters, Noodle and Rice dishes, Soups and Curries, Desserts, Drinks and fun extras to spice up other meals.

The illustrations are beautiful and playful, in addition to being well-structured. They make the process beginner-friendly, even though some recipes require lots of ingredients and steps, which might look intimidating at first. Fear not, chef Mallika has glossaries, tips & tricks and substitutions ready to make your life easier every step of the way!

I've already saved a few recipes to try at home. Highly recommended for lovers of Thai food or those interested in exploring it for the first time.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and of course the author for gifting me this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the premise of this cookbook showcasing real Thai food with a cookbook style looking at Thai culture.
I will definitely be trying out these recipes and will be purchasing the book in physical form when published!

This is the cutest, most helpful, easy to follow cookbook I have ever come across. Noodles, Rice, and Everything Spice is a combination of a graphic novel and Thai cookbook - two women, a Thai woman teaching online classes and a Biracial woman who wants to reconnect with her Thai roots, virtually meet and immediately bond. As the Thai teacher helps the other woman learn more about Thailand, it’s culture and obviously it’s amazing food, the reader ALSO gets to learn alongside her.

I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy of this book…many copies…and giving it as gifts.

If you love Thailand or Thai food, you HAVE to pick this up!

This book is wonderfully warm -- it's an equivalent of a really hearty meal with a couple of very friendly, supportive people that you wish were your friends. It's weird that a recipe book should make me feel so emotional, but it does. It really set the mood with its introduction of the two authors: one a native Thai woman now residing in Finland, whose dayjob is giving language lessons to those who wish to connect to their legacy by learning the language, and the other a mixed race woman who met her online, when she started learning Thai in hopes of connecting to the language of her mother. And their shared love food shines through every page, and it's second only to their love for education, because the patience and desire to share the love for traditional dishes by making them something one can understand and make at home makes this book a delightful read. I am a massive spice wimp, but I can already feel persuaded to try a few things from the book. And the art is so cute!

Thank you #Netgalley for a copy of #NoodlesRiceandEverythingSpice, I really enjoyed it.

This is one of the cutest things I have ever seen, & I want more cookbooks like this. I often find myself disinterested in cookbooks aside from the recipes alone, & often skipping through a lot of those too. This book is adorable enough that I want to read all of it. I think it would also be great for newbies or kids. I would love to show this to my daughter when she's older & take a trip to the Asian store (which has been weekly, anyway)

The kids were fully intrigued by this book. We read it over a few days and then we’re off to the Asian market to explore all of the ingredients. The authors do an amazing job of explain the nuances of Thai cooking (including history and regions) and the ingredients needed. Not only did it get the kids excited about exploring Thai culture and food, it gave me a better grasp on how to cook Thai food. We loved this book, found it to be a valuable resource and are excited to add the hard copy to our cookbook collection when it comes out!

I enjoyed learning about Thailand and its food. The authors give you basic history and how it influenced the food in the book. The art is totally cute and I enjoyed looking at it as I read through. The instructions are detailed but easy to follow. I love how I was shown step-by-step how to fold spring rolls.
I really loved the pictures of the actual food that are incorporated. But there wasn't enough of them; I like to know how the food is supposed to look.

A delicious introduction to Thai cooking! The authors share their backgrounds and favorite dishes along with historical and cultural notes about the regional foods of Thailand. The recipes are beautifully illustrated step by step, making them very easy to follow, and the sheer joy of cooking and eating comes through on every page. (Watch for Chef Mallika's happy lip-smacking expressions!) A real treat, not to be read on an empty stomach. 4 stars.

Thank you, Ten Speed Press and NetGalley, for providing an eARC of this book. Opinions expressed here are solely my own.

This was such a fun take on a cookbook - I loved that it blended narrative storytelling, graphic novel, and cook books! It provided an interesting take on the history and culture of Thai food, as well as food from a variety of geographical areas and their influences. For me, because this utilizes a lot of ingredients and techniques of cooking outside my comfort zone, it wouldn't be an easy cookbook to jump into, though I don't think this is broadly true. I LOVED that this illustrated the steps of cooking with illustrations, but the downside of that is that it began to feel a bit repetitive with the overlap across pages. Overall, a fun take on a cookbook!
