Locked In Pursuit by Ashley Weaver
Book 4 in the Electra McDonnell Series
I have enjoyed this series from the beginning and love the concept of a family of thieves helping the government during WWII. Even if they were coerced into doing it. Ellie is sometimes rash but her heart is in the right place. However it gets her into trouble with Major Ramsey. This story was good on its own but it is also the setup for book five, the final book in the series. I wish it could go on longer.

This is a fabulous conclusion to the series, managing to strike the perfect balance between romance and espionage.

I was hesitant to jump into the fourth book of a series, but I’m so glad I did—Locked in Pursuit won me over quickly. Electra McDonnell, given the choice between prison and aiding the government during wartime, naturally opts for the latter. This installment kicks off with a robbery even her well-connected family didn’t know about, leading to a high-stakes hunt for a Nazi-targeted map. While some say this isn't the strongest in the series, it was strong enough to turn me into a fan. I’m definitely going back to read the previous books.

Did not know this was a part of a series, liked the premise, and characters. Just couldn’t follow along as much as I would’ve liked to, may read the other books in the series and give this a try again. Thank you for the ARC.

Electra McDonnell (Ellie) is home in London and at loose ends when she notices something odd about a news story involving a robbery. This, and the need to return a ring used in a prior case gives her a reason to connect with her handler Major Ramsey. He is still recovering from being shot during their most recent assignment and she is still trying to process her feelings for him, as well as for her longtime friend and sometimes more, Felix. Elliie's information leads to a new assignment investigating what the robbers are really looking for and she is back in the field with Ramsey.
This fourth entry of the series was every bit as enjoyable to read as the first three. I recommend this as a series that should be read in order due to Ellie's maturation and the evolution of her various relationships and concerns. She continues to investigate her father's death and his possible work spying for the Germans and one senses there will be more on this in the concluding novel in this series. With her criminal background, Ellie has contacts that are less than savory and she compromises her relationship with Ramsey, both professional and personal in this novel. Another ongoing thread in this series is that Ellie's cousin Toby is a POW. Her cousins are her brothers and this is a nagging worry throughout the series, including this entry.
The mystery in this entry is mostly fun because of the characters it exposes us to. The greater story arc is that of Ellie's and Ramsey's star-crossed status and where things are going with some continuing loose ends in the overall story lines. A very enjoyable read, nonetheless. I look forward to the concluding entry in the series in book five and highly recommend the entire series.

I highly recommend this book and all the books in this WWII series by Ashley Weaver! This series offers a unique perspective on the war and civilian volunteers.

Locked in Pursuit is another enchanting story of Ellie the criminal safecracker turned vigilante for the War effort. It’s important to note that we finish Playing it Safe (Book 3), with Ellie unveiling another secret of her parents that continues to haunt her in this book. Ellie uncovers a crucial piece of information about her past that could potentially put her in danger today. However, she hesitates to disclose it, fearing that it might be more sinister than she could have imagined. Ellie’s relentless pursuit of the truth and her unwavering love for her family are what truly captivate me.
On a cold January day, Ellie notices a suspicious burglary in the morning newspaper and decides to contact Major Ramsey. They haven’t seen each other in over 3 months since their tumultuous mission in Sunderland. Of course, Ellie’s intuition is on-point, and she and Major Ramsey start in their pursuit. It’s soon discovered that, there are multiple burglaries- all linked back to a spy-ring out of Portugal. Time is of the essence for Major Ramsey and Ellie as they hunt down a mysterious object brought to London before the spies get their hands on it (and try not to get killed in the process.)
Throughout the novel, I loved the winter scene Ashley Weaver paints for the reader (both literally and figuratively.) We are constantly reminded that it is one of the coldest winters Ellie can remember living in England and also of the War that continues to drag on. With unfortunately, no end in sight and seems to be consuming everyone she loves.
In this book, we meet so many new and fun characters. Including, Major Ramsay’s twin sister, Noelle. Some are good, some are bad, most are morally grey (just how we like them!)
And of course, the romance between Major Ramsay and Ellie is as slow a burn as the one between Mr. D’Arcy and Elizabeth Bennetts. “We were ill-suited in almost every conceivable way” Ellie reminds the reader.
I, for one, and hoping for the same outcome as those beloved characters in Pride and Prejudice. But only time will tell! Truth be told, I am very much looking forward to the next adventure Ellie is set to embark on regardless of what happens between her and the Major.

In the fourth installment, Weaver doesn’t disappoint with either the mystery or the relationship between the two main characters! Best read in order, this WWII romantic drama will keep both historians and romance seekers on the edge of their seats, wondering what can and will happen next. I have both read and listened to this series and find both satisfying. Like most cozy mysteries, Electra, the female lead in the book, is sometimes smarter than the male lead, who is also in government/law enforcement and assigned to solve the cases they work on together. Ending with a major cliffhanger that sets up the fifth and I believe final installment in the series, I am excited to see how it all develops.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley and have written an objective review.

I love this one, the World War vibes aren't something I'm usually into but I love the intrigue and longing that this one gives. the main girl is great and inspiring. I'm too excited for the next one, I really can't believe how short this series is, but I really can't wait to see what Ashley Weaver does next.

A very interesting read. Thank you to the publisher for allowing me to read this book. It wasn't really for me, but I am sure that it will be loved by the right audience.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the adventures of Electra McDonnell and Gabriel Ramsey, so I was sad to crack open what has been termed the final installment of the series. This "final turn", however, did not disappoint. As Ellie tracks down information on Toby's whereabouts among Lisbon's underground, she also tries to navigate the complex emotions of the heart. The feelings between Ellie and Ramsey all came to head in this adventure--and the result may not be what you expect.
To our beloved authoress, Ms. Weaver: despite the intended finality of this series, I want more! But if not, I thank you for a wonderful tale all the same. It's been exhiliarating.
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've literally devoured this series in a week flat. Locked in Pursuit - more of a primer for the fifth and final adventure - is the least enjoyable of the series.
There's next to no movement on either the main mystery, or Ellie's personal quest to learn about her parents. And then she does a couple of hare brained things, leaving Ramsay in the dark (all completely furious). It was more keenly felt, given Ellie's coming of age in the previous book - where she's a trusted member of the troupe, pivotal in solving the main plot (and also getting herself into danger).
Noelle is a refreshing addition, and I totally love her to bits.
"He positively excels at depriving himself of things. Especially things he really wants."
My thanks to the author and NetGalley for a copy, in exchange of an honest review

This was a great addition to the series and I’m hooked on the characters and the storyline. The cozy mystery intertwined with just enough suspense kept me engaged and interested. Looking forward to more additions to the series!

This was such a great read! Loved the mix of mystery and historical fiction that this book had! The story hooks you in right from the start with a great plot that sucked me in and kept me laser focused on the plot and rooting for the characters! Definitely recommend checking this one out!

This is another book in the mystery series set in WWII England. The romance between Electra McDonnell and her commanding officer Major Gabriel Ramsey is heating up. This is a quick read with likeable characters. I think I would start with Peculiar Combination, the first in the series. I look forward to the author's next book. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this novel

I thoroughly enjoyed this fourth installment of the unusual WW II Electra McDonnell series. Not only was the mystery compelling but the developments between the Major and Electra were scintillating, all the while she is grappling with feelings for another, perhaps more suitable young man (though without the fervor she experiences with the Major that started in #3.)
I agree with other reviewers that this series is just getting better and better and I cannot wait for the next one!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read an eArc of this book before publication. I loved it!

I like the dynamic between Major Ramsey and Ellie. They have good chemistry and work well together. I am enjoying their adventures and cannot wait to see what happens next.

Nicely done with full details of the time and place.
Well developed characters.
It's interesting to watch the development of the interactions between the two main characters.

Electra McDonnell and the delectable Major Ramsey are back. As the war drags on, they are investigating spies in Lisbon, Portugal, a corridor for refugees and enemy agents. The attraction between the two continues to deepen, and threatens to get in the way of their work. Additionally, McDonnell is continuing to pursue her search for information about her parents, her father's death and her mother's death in prison, accused of his murder.
There is little resolution to the story lines in this novel. Consider this a serious cliff-hanger alert! But Ellie and Gabriel are engaging characters, along with their families and co-workers, so I'll try to patiently wait for the next installment of the story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Eagerly looked forward to this book and was not disappointed! I love books by Ashley Weaver! They’re cozy and keep the reader hooked until the last word.
