An absolutely gorgeous and loving portrait of queer couples through both the lenses of the authors, and their own lenses. This book was sweet, and funny, and absolutely captivating. I loved that there were so many different experiences shown throughout the spectrum of couples chosen, and just how many couples were either decades-long relationships, or relationships where the couple met later on in life. So much representation feels geared toward showing youth people like them living out and happy while young, but I found seeing the couples in this book who either came out much later in life, or have happily been living with their partners for decades, to be so comforting. This book does a great job of showing that queer, love-filled futures are possible.

This book was such a joy and a delight to experience. I loved every second of reading it. While "power couples" is a little silly as a concept, and mainly seems to be about like, capitalist achievement, it was still so beautiful to see these depictions and interviews with these loving, queer couples in their wonderful variety. I really needed it, and didn't even know it, and I'm certain many other people need this book, too.

This is a beautiful collection of Queer Power Couples. The photography is great but I'm not quite sure how it would fit into our store. We'll most likely bring it in for the holidays as it's more of a coffee table book.

“Queer Power Couples: On Love and Possibility” by Hannah Murphy Winter is a book enveloped in queer joy, sealed with hope, offering an intimate and beautiful portrayal of domestic bliss, love, and stories that compose a modern queer tapestry. These narratives serve as a beacon for queer youth with interviews and photographs highlighting queer love among influential couples within the community. The personalities of these couples shine through as they capture each other in photographs, and their love stories resonate with shared experiences common in the queer community, transcending our collective strife and struggles. They offer a glimpse into a future brimming with love.

These stories celebrate their trailblazing achievements, detailing life after coming out in a society where visibility is scarce and inspirational figures are few. They discuss building a future centered on intersectional visibility and inclusion. Initially, I anticipated marveling at beautiful images, but the compelling writing and interviews underscore the book’s essential place in queer libraries for its awe-inspiring stories and introspection. As I read, I couldn’t help but smile at the beautiful, thoughtful interviews. As a non-binary queer person of color, I cherish this document’s role in chronicling our queer history, breaking decades of silence. It’s an easy read, completed in one sitting, and feels like a warm embrace, illuminating our dark past while celebrating a present crafted both secretly and openly against all odds. This book is a celebration of queer joy, thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my complimentary ARC. I eagerly anticipate more from these authors’ art and works!

The Winters’ combine intimate interviews and images for a stellar, inspiring book. This book highlights the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, spanning different forms of gender identity and expression, age, race, backgrounds, and occupations. Each couple’s story, even each individual’s story, was engaging and thoughtful. In short, this book succeeds at its mission to support queer joy and showcase the multitude of possibilities in the lives of LGBTQ+ folks.

Queer Power Couples is a GORGEOUS coffee table book with photos & interviews from queer couples. I read this slowly, learning about queer couples that I would have never known about!

It was wonderful to see the love these great people have. My favorite part was that each couple took a picture of each other in addition to the photographer pics. I loved these insights into how the couples saw each other.

I would definitely recommend Queer Power Couples to anyone who needs to see a little more love in the world.

Thanks to NetGalley, Hannah Murphy Winter, and Chronicle Books for the chance to read and review this advance copy!

This was a beautiful tome about love, life, and possibilities. I felt like it was a well-spoken, well-photographed reminder that we are all the same. We love the same.We live the same. Queer people have different struggles, but even in that, we aren't that different from our straight counterparts. Different struggles for sure, but … For me, this book was a poignant statement that we are all human. Full stop. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!

This book was so inspiring and powerful. This book made me even prouder to be a queer woman. I loved the section “Are you sisters?”, that is an extremely relatable experience for many queer women. Thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book

First, thanks to the publisher for an e-arc of this book.

As a queer reader, I wasn't entirely sure what I would get out of this and was concerned that this was a coffee table book for straight people, but instead, this was a true marker of queer joy and couples from all over the LGBTQ+ spectrum and racial spectrum living their lives with their partners in the best ways they can.

I was genuinely so surprised by the breadth of the queer couples in this book, although by the end, it stood out to me why there were elder sapphic couples in this book but not truly elderly gay couples, and I had to take a moment to really think about what this book and its queer joy actually means. This is one I will definitely be purchasing when it comes out and recommending to people to read and enjoy.

The photographs in this book are tender and gorgeous, and one thing I particularly enjoyed was the photos the couples took of each other! Seeing how they see each other as power couples was very lovely and a very nice touch.

I was worried that the capitalism aspects of power couples would be too much a part of this for me to enjoy, but while some were very focused on the work aspects of these couples' relationships, capitalism didn't play a huge role, and I appreciated that.

I teared up a few times throughout this and I can only hope that for others!

I feel slightly underwhelmed by this book and struggle to identify an audience. If you know the featured couples, maybe you'd find it interesting, but for a casual read, probably not. Maybe it would work better as an academic. "queer people are just like everyone else" way?
I hate to be negative because queer stories, especially happy ones, need to be shared! I do commend the author for her hard work and vision.

Super cute book that as a queer young adult gave me alot of hope for what my future can look like. I work with queer youth and can see myself reccommending this to some kids who need some hope. It was also very diverse in both identity as well as careers and lifestyles to show that queer people can lead many different lives

This was such an empowering book to read. I love that there was so much attention put by the author's in capturing a wide spectrum of LGBT couples of varying races and designations. A very inclusive read, for sure, though I think a few of the interviews were a bit meandering and did not really emphasize much of the "power" aspect of being a power couple and lingered too long on the interview questions that were a bit less interesting to read. Overall, I support elevating LGBT voices and celebrating queer couples that have become powerhouses in their respective fields.

Written and photographed by a queer power couple in their own right, Hannah Murphy Winter and Billie Winter’s coffee table compendium offers both history and hope. I learned so much about my queer elders, and I couldn’t stop talking about these culture leaders and their stories with my friends! The portraits often brought me to tears; I was overwhelmed with the softness, satisfaction, and safety portrayed. I look forward to buying this book in print and lending it to all my young friends that need to see that it gets better.

Thank you to Hannah, Billie, and all the couples for being radically visible. Thanks to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the ARC.

"On love and possibility"

"Queerness felt like this secret I had with myself"

What a powerful book. Very inspiring about queer joy. When you can't find yourself in history, you create the space. I respect that.

This book is so much more than the tin promises.

Going in, it felt more like an Art book, with photos and blurbs. Instead, we get amazing, intimate photos, taken both by the photographer and by the couples themselves. And we get full, rich interviews with people I've never heard of (other than Roxanne Gay), and people I REALLY want to know more about.

Did I know that the creator of Nimona was married to a writer on Owl House? NOOOOOOO.

Did I know that I was supposed to be watching the new Interview with the Vampire? NOOOO.

Did I know there's a restaurant in Washington State helmed by two brilliant and talented lesbians? NOOOOOOO.

But this is not about my lack of knowledge, so let's move on.

Visibility is so important, and far more than being a book about queer love, this is first and foremost a book about queer success. Queer visibility. Queer normality. It's a book that every generation needs, from the younger growing up in a much more forgiving world to the older generation who have watched so many before them die out to the AIDS crisis.

These couples are WONDERFUL. They're delightfully human, and these conversations feel like we are eavesdropping on an every day chat between friends. But so many times throughout these talks, there's a nerve that's sizzled, a moment to make you pause.

I love this. So very.

Queer Power Couples by Hannah Murphy winter is the book with beautiful pictures about successful couples that’s being in the LGBTQ plus community the author asked everyone the question when was the first time you knew and how did they meet which made for a very interesting read from journalist to chefs photographers authors dancers directors in on and on they represent every walk of life and the questions the author ask lead into some very interesting conversations about living abroad how they see their self and on and on but even have an Emily Dickinson scholar a scientist who was on the team that found synthetic insulin and much more their achievements are astounding there’s even one who went back to school after already being a successful journalist the stories really are incredible interesting and inspirational my favorite was Anthony and Stephen but that really does Ty with Jenna and Ayesha and if I think too much about it they probably would have others that I would say were my favorite as a mother of a lesbian daughter it makes me feel good to know not only do they have successful long term romances and careers that are comfortable in their skin I love this book and although I am legally blind and couldn’t see up every picture for those who can see it will be a treat I’m sure. This was a great book and when I totally loved it definite five star read and a great coffee table book for anyone’s living room or at least for those who want to look like they’re in the know.
