But Hazel’s not the only relic of the past to return: a drought has descended on the region, and as the water level in the lake drops, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge…including evidence that may help finally explain the mystery of her mother’s disappearance.“

I had enjoyed The Last to Vanish, but this one was so stellar, it might've replaced it as my fave Miranda read. It's one of those novels where things keep moving along and you can feel that forward momentum of the plotline, yet it still allows you time to get to know the setting and characters. There were numerous strange occurrences and numerous suspects, but at rock bottom, this one reads a lot like a mystery. It's one of those books where even if you guess who the villain is, you still want to keep reading to get all the facts straight and see how things pan out. Loved the mountain setting--I could use more suspense books set there. All the details wove together well, and it was a very satisfying (read--not bleak!) suspense novel. Recommended (note--some language).

I am a huge Megan Miranda fan and just like all the other books, this one was a win! It was not very fast paced but it still kept me interested and the ending was a bit of surprise.

ANOTHER TERRIFIC BOOK!

I am so thankful when I read good book after good book. I appreciate going without a literary dry spell. Megan Miranda’s newest thriller is Daughter of Mine. The story centers around Hazel, the daughter of a detective who left her childhood home but is called back when she inherits the house. Though she moved away over ten years ago, she is pulled back to the lake community and as Hazel begins to clean out the family home, a drought occurs. With every passing day, the lake levels are receding and things are slowly revealed. Things that are not exactly pleasant.

I was completely swept up in the story along with the twists and turns in every chapter.

Here is the official synopsis:

When Hazel Sharp, daughter of Mirror Lake’s longtime local detective, unexpectedly inherits her childhood home, she’s warily drawn back to the town—and people—she left behind almost a decade earlier. But Hazel’s not the only relic of the past to return: a drought has descended on the region, and as the water level in the lake drops, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge…including evidence that may help finally explain the mystery of her mother’s disappearance.

Out now, go get this today!

This is a book that pulls you in from the very beginning and doesn’t let you go until it’s over! It’s definitely a twisty book that will have you questioning everything until it’s finally revealed to you what’s going on. I love a psychological thriller that is NOT predictable, and I wasn’t able to predict the twists in this book. I definitely recommend to all thriller lovers!

Thank you Marysue Rucci Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Megan Miranda books are hit or miss for me. But I am a sucker for a psychological thriller, so any time I see her name, I reach for that book. This one did not disappoint. I was hooked from the start. When a drought uncovers so many unknown mysteries because of a receeding shoreline, Hazel has a hard time staying away from the place she was trying get distance from for years. The twists, turns and connections were intricate and unexpected. This was not the type of book when the main character tries to solve mysteries on their own and disregard things associated with an active investigation. Hazel believes she knows who she can trust and is very intelligent about her decisions and picking up on clues that her dad left for her. There are a couple of holes that I purposely overlooked because they didn't exactly impede on the main story.
I enjoyed this story about family drama, especially when it comes to hotheaded siblings, who also happen to be in law enforcement.

Thank you to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster and Marysue Rucci Books for the Advanced Reader’s Copy of Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda. I love Megan Miranda’s books and was not disappointed by this one.

Hazel Sharp has been away from Mirror Lake for some time. She returns after her stepfather passes away unexpectedly and to her brothers’ dismay, he left Hazel his home on the lake. Hazel’s mother left suddenly when she was a little girl and her stepfather raised her as his own. Returning to Mirror Lake, Hazel is forced to face past ghosts when not one but two cars are discovered in the lake during a time of drought.

Megan Miranda weaves a slow building and complex story with no shortage of secrets and deception. I absolutely loved Hazel and was along for the ride with her. I was glued to the pages trying to figure out the mystery before it was revealed. Lots of good twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Bravo on another great read by Megan Miranda.

Megan Miranda's books are usually a hit or miss for me. Lately, they have been more misses. I took a chance with Daughter of Mine. Sadly, this was also a miss. I didn't really feel this was much of a "thriller", but more of a family drama. I honestly did not connect with any of the characters, particularly Hazel. I had higher expectations for this, I suppose. It moved really slow for some reason. I know a lot of people adore Miranda as an author, and I would not persuade anyone not to read this. It just wasn't for me.

Synopsis:
When Hazel Sharp, daughter of Mirror Lake’s longtime local detective, unexpectedly inherits her childhood home, she’s warily drawn back to the town—and people—she left behind almost a decade earlier. My thoughts:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the eighth book I’ve read by Megan Miranda, and I think it’s safe to say she has reached auto-buy status. Megan excels at creating dark, cozy small towns, and Daughter of Mine is true to form. Named for the body of water at the base of a mountain range in North Carolina, Mirror Lake contains the ominous secrets of a tight-knit community. The descriptions of the town are so vivid, it’s almost as if it’s a character in the novel.

Each chapter begins with the date, time, and the number of days without rain. As the drought continues, the tension rises until the mystery breaks wide open with the advent of rainfall. I was on the edge of my seat as Hazel tried desperately to identify the person responsible for the sinister attacks on her family, and, like Hazel, I didn’t know who to trust. The path to the climax was as twisty as the dirt roads climbing up and down the mountains.

If you haven’t read any of Megan’s books, I recommend starting with Such a Quiet Place or All the Missing Girls. The only one of her books I haven’t read is The Only Survivors, and I don’t know whether to move it up on my TBR list or wait a while so I have something to read between now and her next book.

Thanks to @netgalley and @simonandschuster for the opportunity to read and review this ebook!

Megan is a must-read author for me. She keeps that status with this latest entry. Hazel inherits the family home in Mirror Lake where her father was the long-time sheriff. Hazel's mother went missing years ago, there is a drought, lake levels are dropping.........I'll just leave it at this. This is not a super-fast-paced story as most of Megan's books are but stick with it! You won't be disappointed! This would be a super-cool story to read by an actual lake, I think! Look forward to more from Ms. Miranda!

Thank you to #NetGalley, Megan Miranda and Simon Element | S&S/ Marysue Rucci Books for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

A VERY slow burn suspense that is worth the wait in the end.

Hazel returns to her former hometown for her stepfather's memorial service and will reading. That will kick off a series of events that will slowly, slowly reveal a whole host of dark family secrets and help solve the mysterious disappearance of Hazel's mom when she was just a young teen.

Atmospheric and suspenseful. this won't be for readers who crave a fast-paced page turner, but the reveals at the end are worth the wait!

I’m always excited for a new Megan Miranda book and this one didn’t disappoint. Fast paced and a perfect read for when you’re by the lake.

I wanted to love this book, but it felt too scattered and too ‘flighty’. I felt like something was off the entirety of the book (which I think is what Miranda wanted), but the shear amount of different ideas happening made this book hard to follow. The story line was slow thru the first 100 pages or so, there were too many things happening. Then the story picked up and I was able to get a bit more into it. That being said, the ending felt rushed and cleaned up too nicely. Not my favorite book by this author. Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the chance to read in advance.

Megan Miranda got it right with this one. She carefully weaved in bits and pieces of bait to keep us guessing-who knew what?! The story did start off a little slow but once it picked up my interest peaked and I really enjoyed it. This one definitely made me suspicious of whoever Hazel encountered and friended. Great mystery with a surprising ending.

Megan Miranda is skilled at what she does and her novels never disappoint. "Daughter of Mine" just might be her best work yet. The setting and characters are developed and I was guessing until the very end. I wish I hadn't devoured this book as quickly as I did!

Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda is absolutely unputdownable! This is Miranda's best book yet, and I cannot wait to enthusiastically recommend this book to every reader I know! This atmospheric, psychological thriller got better and better as it progressed. There were so many twists and turns that even the most careful reader would be hard-pressed to solve the mysteries of this story. I loved the backdrop of the drought and how it added to the tension of the storytelling. Not only was the writing fantastic, the ending was satisfying. Warning, do not read while alone in the house!

Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the chance to read and review this e-galley.

This book kept me on my toes with the twists and turns! I thought I had it all figured out until the last two chapters. This was a book I could not get enough of and kept sneaking to read any time I had possible!

Hazel returns to her hometown after the unexpected death of her father, but it is not what she remembers.

I have always been a Megan Miranda fan and this one was no exception. Expect dark, buried, family secrets.

This book was more of a slow burn but did a good job keeping me interested. I thought the characters were so well written and found myself constantly wanting to know more.

I recommend this one to thriller readers.

Loved this novel. Loved the tone and the writing. The plot unspooled nicely, developing character without disturbing the pace. Talked with Megan Miranda for my podcast, Writers on Writing, which will be broadcast sometime in June.
