This is my first time reading Stacy Green and I just loved this book. It was so methodical, well written and I truly enjoyed a majority of the characters, especially Nikki. Thsi was a shorter book, but it definitely didn't skip out on any details and was so well laid out. I can't wait to go back and read some of the other Nikki Hunt books.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and author Stacy Green for this gifted ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Agent Nikki Hunt is back with another case, that may be related to a cold case that happened in 2001.

In 2001, eight-year-old Matt witnessed his parents and his sister Amy getting murdered by a masked man wearing in black. Present day, two girls were brutally murdered and one of the girls Alexia is missing. Alexia was making a documentary about the murder that happened in 2001. With time running out and determined to find Alexia before it was too late, Nikki and her partner Liam must find the person who was responsible for the murders in 2001 and they believed it could be the same person.

This was a fast paced thriller. There were many twists and turns along the way although I kind of expected the ending and I also suspected by the middle of the book, who might be the real murderer. Nevertheless, that did not lower my rating as the author has once again managed to make the reader feel like they are on the edge of the story and this thriller like all her Nikki Hunt series are unputdownable with so much action going on in the series. You could read as a standalone novel but then I highly recommend to read this series starting from Book 1

Overall, this book worth five stars!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.

For two decades a vicious murder has gone unsolved. This murder destroyed an entire family leaving only one person alive. When Special Agent Nikki Hunt is called to this same home, she finds another bloody scene. This time a young woman is missing. Nikki Hunt understands family loss firsthand. Her parents were brutally murdered years ago, and this case is stressing her out. Matty was the survivor of the first crime that occurred in this home. He owns the home now and is immediately a prime suspect. Nikki feels a bond with Matty, but unlike Nikki who used her loss to help other victims of crime, Matty seems to be a bit of a wanderlust. He was definitely my first suspect.

These were gruesome murders from before and at present. This time the clock is ticking because they hope to find the missing girl alive. Nikki Hunt and company are perfect for the job. Stacy Green takes you on a wild ride of epic proportions as the puzzle pieces are slowly placed together to possibly join the past to the present so that both crimes can be solved. The real question that has to be answered is are the murders connected or is is just a grisly coincidence? Nikki Hunt is a tenacious and fearless investigator who will stop at nothing to solve the mystery, even risking her own life.

This was a gripping tale of a cold case investigation, and reflected on how survivors of brutal crimes suffer and recover from their loss. I was hanging on by my fingernails as we skidded into the ending. You will not be able to put this one down once you start it.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Fans of Stacy Green, you’ll be happy to know that number 8 in the Nikki Hunt series, Bone Lake, is a humdinger! Alexia Perry, a young detective/profiler wannabe books an Airbnb for a weekend to air a documentary about the tragic murders of three family members that had occurred in the house years earlier. Although many of her friends thought it was in bad taste, they still showed up to party. It wasn’t until the next day when the cleaners arrived that the bodies of two of the girls were discovered. Other friends were accounted for, but Alexia was missing.

Special Agent Nikki Hunt, an FBI profiler, is called in to assist Washington County Sheriff Miller. The two have worked closely on many cases previously, and the county sheriff’s department greatly needs the FBI’s help on this one. The murders of the Kline parents and daughter are still unsolved; only the family’s little boy, Matty, escaped by running to a neighbor’s home for help. Nikki sympathizes with the adult Matt as a survivor of this tragedy – but can she be objective as she investigates this new crime?

Ms. Green’s knowledge of the area and its history adds greatly to the sense of time, place, and mystery. At times, the aura is rather creepy, especially early in the story. She also creates many false leads and suspects. There were rumors of affairs back at the time of the original murders, which could have been motive for the murders. And, of course, there’s revenge. This creates some tension between Nikki and Liam, who disagree about who is the prime suspect. The motive for killing Alexia seems clear – but it’s not certain that she’s dead. But where is she? And why kill the two friends? There are so many questions. Can Nikki, her team, and the sheriff find Alexia and nab the killer?

This is a good one, folks!

FBI agent Nikki Hunt is faced with the task of solving multiple related crimes committed decades apart. With many twists and turns, the story will keep you on your toes until the entire time. Although I had part of it figured out halfway through the book, everything didn’t come together until the end. Loved it! #netgalley #bonelake

Stacy Green's Nikki Hunt series never disappoints. Short but action-packed, Bone Lake is another thrilling instalment with a fast pace and a lot going on.

The case is one that will have you questioning loads of different characters, and the investigation is a gripping one to follow.

There isn't a whole lot of character development regarding Nikki in this instalment, as it focuses on the case rather than anything more personal, but I like how it puts focus on other characters and builds up a little more history around the town.

This is the perfect series if you enjoy short and entertaining detective thrillers with great characters and interesting cases.

There is never a dull moment for a Nikki Hunt investigation. This case had a very realistic feel, a Netflix documentary gone awry. As I’ve read these books Green has let readers get to know Nikki and Liam, their families and coworkers. Just like real partners these two often disagree and it made for an exciting investigation. This case was actually like working two, the current murder occurred where another unsolved murder took place over twenty years ago. How the patterns and clues fit together was tricky and unexpected. I hope to never tire of a Hunt mystery, there’s always a murder somewhere. It’s always a pleasure to read an early copy and leave my honest review.

This is the first of the series that I have read and to be honest...WHAT A RIDE.

So many twist and terms throughout it. It had me hooked by the first chapter and I could not put it down.

For someone who is a lover of the series or reading it as a one off you'll love the book!

Bone Lake is the 8th book in the Nikki Hunt series.

I have loved every book in the series and this one fit right in.

This installment focuses on two separate murders. One many years ago and one in the current day. The two cases have some similarities and are tied together in an unusual way.

I love that we are still learning about the main characters even this far into the series. I like them all even more with each book. They are becoming like people I actually know.

This book had me wondering and guessing all through until the end.

I recommend to anyone who likes a good police procedural series.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

History seems to be repeating itself in this new Nikki Hunt book. Years ago, a family was murdered in their home. Only the young son survived the horror. In the present day, the old case remains a topic of discussion and the subject of a documentary. When a young woman decides to play detective and solve the cold case, she rents the actualy house of the murders and invites her friends to view the documentary. The evening ends with two of her friends murdered and the young woman missing. Is this the work of the original perp or is it a new criminal. Nikki and her team must solve the previous murders in order to solve the new ones. It's a a great story.

Bone Lake, Nikki Hunt book 8, by Stacy Green.

I am loving this series; it continues to get better with each book. This book grabbed me from the start. One house, two sets of violent attacks years apart. Are they related?
Nikki Hunt is called in to help investigate the attack on a group of teenagers renting a house with previously unsolved gruesome murders. She quickly learns that one of the teenagers has been digging into these cold murders on her own. Did the killer find out?
This book was perfectly paced, filled with suspense to the very end. Five stars.

This is book #8 in the Nikki Hunt series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading the books in series order for better understanding of the storylines. We are back with Special Agent Nikki Hunt who is investigating the deaths of two young women at a house on Bone Lake. However this isn't the first time this house has seen such tragedy as twenty years previously a family were killed there in almost identical circumstances.

I've read this series from the beginning and really like Nikki Hunt's character. She's had plenty of tragedy in her own life, but in this book the investigation takes forefront with only fleeting glimpses into Nikki's home life. The investigation is gripping and I enjoyed trying to work out who was involved as I read. The killings, both present day and twenty years previous, are gruesome and shocking and when secrets come tumbling out from both times I found myself hooked into the investigation.

There are a lot of characters and I did struggle initially as to who was who, but this became easier as the storyline moved on. There were lots of twists and turns with some red herrings thrown in for good measure. I didn't work out who the killer was until Nikki did and I loved the reveal of who and why, with everything slotting into place. This is an exciting addition to this series which had been hooked until the last page. Would recommend!

And yet again, Stacey Green did a fantastic job with this newest Nikki Hunt book!! I read it in just a few hours and it kept me guessing right up to the end. This is great series and I highly recommend it.

This was so good! I liked that it was more about the investigation, and less about Nikki’s personal life. Starts off with the brutal murder of three family members years ago. Now there’s a Netflix documentary series talking about the crime, & on the night that it premieres, there’s another brutal murder at the same house. Nikki has her hands full with this investigation, looking back at the original crime & figuring out how the new crime fits in. Lots of tension and action keeps this story flowing. This was a good addition!

This is a well written true police procedural, with the exception of the chapters looking back in time. They are not part of the discovery, and are unnecessary for the story. However, this is a very entertaining book with a good plot and great characters.

A Cold Case Is Key To Current Murders

In 2001, Amy Kline and her parents were brutally killed at their residence. Before she confronted the killer, she helped her younger brother to escape. The murderer was never identified. Four months ago, Special Agent Liam Wilson’s girlfriend, Caitlin Newport, an investigative reporter, worked with Netflix to produce a documentary on the Klines’ murders. She interviewed SA Nikki Hunt, Wilson’s partner, as part of that documentary. At the present time, the Kline’s old residence is now an Airbnb. A group of high schoolers rented for the weekend to binge-watch that documentary. Sheriff Miller calls SA Nikki Hunt. He tells her that when the cleaner arrived this morning, she found two dead girls. One girl is missing. He asks her for help. Now, two multiple murders need to be solved.

The main storyline has two threads. The first thread is the investigation of the recent murders and the abduction. The sheriff leads this investigation. SAs Hunt and Wilson assist. Because of all the connections to the Kline murders, SAs Hunt and Wilson focus most of their efforts on this case. This is the primary thread of the two. There are many obstacles to these investigations. As mentioned above, the documentary, which seems to play a significant role in the current murders, is the brainchild of SA Wilson’s girlfriend. SA Hunt also initiates FBI involvement without her supervisor’s approval, as he will not report for work until the next day. The investigation of the Klines’ murders had many issues. A sheriff in a neighboring county conducted the original investigation because he was the first on the scene. The two sheriffs feuded over this investigation. The sheriff at that time was Sheriff Miller’s predecessor, who now is dead. The other sheriff is still alive. There are missing, mislabeled, and undocumented extra items of evidence. Then, the original medical examiner’s autopsy report was full of errors that led to wrong conclusions for years. This storyline is very meaty — just what I like. Much effort is expended to unravel these complex investigations. There are many twists and turns and a surprising reveal. Suspense is maintained by the necessity to solve the recent murders because the abducted girl may still be alive. My attention was immediately captured and kept to the end.

Adequate new background information on SA Hunt and her family and friends, personal and professional, is provided to satisfy the regular reader of this series. Sufficient background information is provided from previous novels so that new readers will not feel they missed anything. The multi-novel B-storyline thread of SA Wilson’s and Newport’s relationship plays a supporting role in the main storyline versus being a pestering reporter. There is a significant event in this thread for the main storyline. This event brought a smile to my face.

The aspects of a novel that can cause some readers to stop reading are present in this novel. There are only two references to assaults on women. There are only a handful of vulgar words. The level of rude words is just a little more. Even if the violence occurred in the past, the details are provided and described in a more edgy way of how it happened. Lastly, this is the eighth novel in the Nikki Hunt series. I found nothing in this novel that required reading any previous novels in the series. I do not believe these aspects of the novel should stop most readers.

There were some issues, but all I saw was that they were made to keep the novel compact and moving forward. A few of these could not happen in real life, but this is a work of fiction. The murderer's identity was well hidden until the end, which kept me engaged to the end. As with the author’s previous novels, this novel is a straightforward read. I have read and reviewed seven of the eight novels in this series. I have purchased the novel I missed, plus a few other earlier books. This author has kept her position as a Must-Read author for me, and I look forward to reading more of her novels. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel and rate it with five stars.

I received a free prepublication e-book version through NetGalley from Booktouture. My review is based solely on my own reading experience of this book. Thank you, Booktouture, for the opportunity to read and review this novel early.

An absolute banger of a book!

Stacey’s only gone and done it again folks. Another excellent edition to the Nikki Hunt series has landed! As a devout fan of the Hunt novels I’ve journeyed with Nikki through her trials and tribulations, but each book just adds to the momentum of this fantastic series.

Excellent writing (as always!) fans of Angela Marson’s DI Kim Stone will love Nikki Hunt. Whilst she’s not as brutal as Kim they’re both unwavering in their desire to solve a mystery no matter the cost.

Love, love, love - can’t wait for spring!

Thanks to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
