The First Girl is the eleventh book in the Katie Scott series. The book picks off where it last left. Katie's life was upended when someone kidnapped her fiance to get at her. This book sees some progression in that case along with a brand new but sad & cruel case surfacing from years earlier. Because of Katie's personal connection to Chad, her missing fiance, she isn't allowed to investigate but follows the case closely and makes significant contributions with help from Cisco. The heavy impact of investigating Chad's dissapearance along with the new case makes Katie very careless and negligent in her current case. I sense a slight shift in her personality & the way she handles things impulsively rather than carefully as she usually did before- not a fan of both. A lot of coincidental stuff happening around the case which felt very convenient left me feeling unsatisfactory. I hope that Katie gets her mojo back & we get the old sensible girl back.
Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture & Jennifer Chase for the arc!

This is actually the 11th book in the series. This was fast paced , and I couldnt put it down. Told by Kay's pov. This book was so twisty and addictive. You get to see a different side of Kay in this one.

This case comes as a total shock to Katie Scott and her colleagues. A serial killer has been operating unnoticed right under their noses. There is a real feeling of urgency with this case, these girls have been missing for long enough. The tension spikes however when a girl who fits the killer's preferences goes missing. This is one of those books that reads as a sprint rather than a marathon. Once you pick it up you won't put it down until the last page. I really enjoyed it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

I find it hard to believe that this is the eleventh book in the series featuring Detective Katie Scott. I am a big fan of this series and this addition to the series certainly didn’t disappoint. Katie and her partner Sean work in the Cold Case unit and are investigating the disappearance of a young girl Abigail fifteen years previously. Her car was found abandoned and she has not been seen since. They investigate a derelict farm near to where Abigail’s car was found and stumble across the graves of other young women who had disappeared over the years. They find themselves under gunfire and realise that their lives are in danger. Katie is also reeling from the disappearance of her fiancé Chad and wonders if she will ever see him again. This was another gripping, action packed book with plenty of twists and turns. I look forward to book number twelve.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Detective Katie Scott book 11 - this book picks up 6 months after the end of the last book. Katie’s fiance is still missing. She has thrown herself into her work and her and McGaven pick up another cold case.
This was a good mystery and as always Katie get’s herself into some dicey predicaments.
Hopefully more of Chad’s story is told in the next book.

Book 11 in the Katie Scott series and another solid edition.

Despite facing her own personal issues Katie throws herself into investigating another cold case of a missing girl which she doesn't anticipate is the route it will take.

Katie is tenacious character who is determined to find justice for her victims and their families, a dramatic tense read.

I've never come across this series before but what an amazing police procedure this book turned out to be! Its not your clichéd beaten down by life, alcoholic cop at the forefront and the plot was original and constantly moving forward. I was so invested, partially with the amount if missing women we've had in the UK recently so it hit that wee bit closer to home and made it that bit more realistic. The characters were fantastic and the plot lines really well explored. I'll definitely be going back to start from book 1 if this installment is anything to go by

There is a reason that the Jennifer Chase novels are one of the police procedurals I love the most!
Still searching for clues about what happened to Chad, Katie is still burying herself into her work, and when she finds a cold case, with links to the present - her and Gav dive straight in! I can’t give any spoilers away - but we most certainly have not heard the last of this case and what it means for her loved ones! Cisco needs a bigger role in the next one though cos he is an absolute legend!
Hurry back Katie!!!

This is the 11th book in the Detective Katie Scott series in which I’ve only read this one but I will be sure to go back and start from the very beginning.
Detective Katie Scott and her partner, Sean McGaven have a 100% solve rate for cold cases that they reopen. This newest case has them stumped like never before. A young woman named Abigail disappeared many years ago. Her car was found, but there was no trace of her or her dog anywhere. Katie knows she has to do her job, but she is struggling daily because Chad is missing. Her future husband disappeared one night, and they have been unable to find any trace of him. She knows she has to put her personal feelings aside in order to solve this cold case. The story starts out with Katie preventing a potential suicide with a female that Gav knows from his past. There was something about this woman that was causing my spidey senses to tingle, but I could not figure it out.
When they discover seven shallow graves, they know they have found the body of Abigail. They quickly realize they have a cold and calculating killer whose savageness is on full display with the way the killer disposes of the bodies. The killer is highly intelligent and strategic in his plans, which means he is always more than one step ahead of them. Both Katie and Gav are in grave danger as someone is trying to kill them. This puts them on high alert as they realize they are dealing with someone who has nothing to lose and everything to gain. They are usually the hunters. Now they find themselves being the prey.

I absolutely love the Katie Scott character and can’t wait to start the first book in the series and see where it goes from there. I will be sure to recommend this series to my book loving friends.

Thank you Netgalley, bookouture, and Jennifer chase for the opportunity to read this free arc.

This was a great eleventh book in the Detective Katie Scott series, it had everything that I was expecting from this series. The thriller elements worked well overall and flowed with the other books in this series. It had everything that I enjoyed from Jennifer Chase’s writing. This book had me on the edge of my seat and I’m so glad I was able to read this.

Detective Katie Scott's life is never boring, and this latest book continues the high speed action of her professional and personal arenas. It is an exciting book with lots of twists, turns, heartbreak, and suspense. The ending is outstanding! I can't wait for the next book in the series.

My last review for 2023........Phew!

The First Girl by Jennifer Chase is the eleventh book in the brilliant Detective Katie Scott series and this series has been one of the best series out there especially as Jennifer left us hanging in her last book called Her Dying Kiss! So, I could not wait to find out if Chad was still alive or dead!
WoW This book was so good......once I started I could not put it down and ended up burning our dinner!! It's full of twists and turns throughout that will have you gripped again.........I love the Detective Katie Scott and her loyal four legged friend, her service dog Cisco, the star of this series.

If you want a series that will have you gripped with great story lines this is a series for you.

I highly recommend this series. Another 5 stars.

Big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The First Girl in exchange for a review.

Oh, this is a story with many twists and turns!

Katie Scott, Detective, is tasked with finding out what happened to a young woman some 15 years earlier. Her work partner, Sean McGaven, and herself work cold cases but somehow, this cold case has links with the present day as well.

When strange things start to happen around Katie's home, it is difficult to know where to start looking for the instigator of the deeds which happen. Katie only knows that young women have been going missing for quite some time, and Abigail Andrews is just the tip of that particular iceberg.

On top of solving crimes, Katie is still coming to terms with the disappearance of her fiance, Chad. It has been months now and the trail has gone cold. Could there be some news about him?

I always enjoy the Katie Scott series, looking forward to the next book!

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

Another chilling book to add to the detective Katie Scott Series!

I have been a huge fan of this series from the get go, and Jennifer Chase just keeps me hooked from book to book! As always, it started with a bang, and kept me hooked from start to finish. Plenty of action throughout, and I didn’t want to put it down because I had to see what happened next! I loved that we finally get some answers and resolution to what happened to Chad, and Katie and Gav may be my favorite partner duo in all the books I’ve read. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next Katie Scott installment!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my arc in exchange for my honest feedback!

Jennifer Chase is back with another thrilling installment in her Detective Katie Scott series. I loved the story and the personal parts on Katie’s own ongoing story.
This is fast paced psychological suspense that checks all the boxes!

Thank you, Jennifer Chase, Bookouture, & Netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.

I so love this series and was so excited when I saw there was info about Chad in this one. To clarify, Chad is Detective Kate Scott’s fiancé that went missing with little clue earlier in the series. It is an ongoing storyline on the personal side of things for our main character. This book can be read as a stand alone. The author does a good job of catching you up on what you need to know. It’s just I was so hooked on her fiancé disappearing so long ago, and I’ve been not so patiently waiting to see if there would ever be any more of it. For those familiar with the storyline, I won’t mention what, but you definitely need to pick this one up.

But on to the main storyline. While investigating a cold case, things become personal for Kate as she has a feeling someone is watching her, someone tries to run her off the road and shoots at her and McGaven. I love her dog Cisco, though he plays only a small part in this one. I am such a fan of this series, but was especially impressed with this one as it really was complex with a lot of moving parts that fit really well in the big picture. I really like McGaven in this one as you get to see a little of his backstory and his heart. The two of them are a great team.

I was swept into this fast paced installment and finished reading it in a day. More than once I was surprised at the twists.

I was drawn into the case of this missing girl and the farm in addition to Kate and Chad. To me this series is always a reliable great read.
