With some, but minimal, previous reading in Old English poems and riddles, I found this book very delightful. I thought it was very accessible for a wide range of readers, was well paced, and engaging. I really enjoyed the short stories at the beginning of each chapter to give a more narrative view and context of each landscape and poem. Additionally, I thought each chapter was well balanced with narrative fiction, historically relevant topics, and personal observations, It made for a really lovely read!

Learning about early medieval England through traditional methods such as poems and tales makes this book feel traditional. Poems and tales were once a major method of communicating information and history, and this book feels written in the same vein.

Interesting topic done quite well. I haven't really seen many books exploring this section of folklore lately and I am always interested in the stories of other peoples. Very good.
