Thank you NetGalley and Eric Ferguson for this eCopy to review

Cold Record is a courtroom drama following the trial of Andrew Rodarte for the rape and murder of sophomore Haylee Branch. What seems straightforward at first becomes seriously complicated after Rodarte changes his plea after 10 years in jail.

A page turning read, which really opened my eyes to how justice is served and how a person can be resilient in the face of such adversity with a shocking revelation at the end

I love courtroom dramas and this one was different. The story is told from the perspective of the prosecuting second chair and there is a great deal of procedural detail, including the legal definitions of murder and rape. The story unfolds over an extended time period and I felt the author filled the gaps between episodes by relating other issues with regard to the main character. I thought this was unnecessary, it put me off, making me wonder what the point of it was and it detracted from the plot.

This book is great for a debut novel. It's a clever plot, standing out from the usual courtroom drama but, for me, it would have better sticking to the plot without the padding.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and Eric Ferguson for the ARC of 'Cold Record' in return for an honest review.

Although it took me a while to get into the novel I found it intriguing and clever. it is more than a courtroom drama as Andrew Rodarte is tried for the murder of a young woman.

All is not as it seems and many people are traumatised by the event and its aftermath.

Well worth a read
