Carla Kovach can be counted on to deliver a truly twisted tale! There are many red herrings which keep you guessing all the way through. Couldn't stop reading this one!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘On A Quiet Street’ written by Carla Kovach in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Leah Jones is shocked when a teenage girl knocks on her door claiming to be her daughter and although she gave birth at the age of sixteen she was told by her mother that the baby had died. Could this girl possibly be her husband Cain’s daughter as she knows he’s been cheating on her for years. Leah doesn’t realise how complicated her life is going to become with a lying husband and a daughter she didn’t know existed.

‘On A Quiet Street’ is a well-written and all-consuming psychological thriller that’s written in five parts, either through Leah’s eyes or those of the girl who says she’s her daughter. The characters are perfectly described and the plot so intricate that I had no idea how the story was going to evolve. With the ingenious dramatic twists and turns, there’s a surprising conclusion where lies are revealed, the truth is finally learnt and the characters are hopefully going to be happy-ever-after – but are they? This is a great read with a heart-stopping final twist that’s so unbelievable it’s impossible to stop reading.

This book was okay. I felt like the character development was slow and a little all over the place. Leah's character is meant to come across as "crazy" although all her feelings and what's going on around her don't necessarily make it believable. I think if the story had been told in more of a flashback form then the jumping around it might've clicked a little better.

A really interesting premise and I did stick it out and enjoy it but it just seemed to drag a bit. I didn't click with any if the characters, they all seemed a bit vile or just idiotic and neurotic and so I just didnt care lol. The twists were good though and I did enjoy the book, I just wouldn't rave about it! It's character driven and certainly makes you think

I found On a Quiet Street to be an OK read. It was a little slow and drawn out for my taste. It did have some unexpected twists that kept me reading but it just didn't live up to my expectations.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.

On a Quiet Street was anything but quiet. There was so much that happened and at times it was difficult to keep track, at times it felt like I was getting whiplash but in the end it all came together. This story showed the tangled webs that people concocted for self-preservation and how much people are held prisoner to their lies not freed by them. At first I felt that all the main POV characters we highly neurotic that it was almost off putting and frustrating but after seeing what they had to deal with I understand now. There was a great little twist right at the end which made it all worth it. Really enjoyed On a Quiet Street!

I enjoyed this book, however, I would not say that it is my favorite. The main character developed well, but her tolerance of her husband was frustrating. The twists were unexpected and exciting.

I kind of feel like marrying a guy named Cain was homegirl's first mistake.
Leah is pathetic. She is like "oh no. My husband is cheating and I have to clean out this additional house I own so I can have some passive income." And then an 18 year old shows up and she's like "I'm yalls kid!"
It is good and twisty and weird but I just hate Leah and Cain so much.
Also those girls and the old ladies and basically everyone.

A fantastic, twisty domestic thriller full of mystery and suspense. Charlotte turns up on Leah’s doorstep and declares that she is her daughter. Is she? Leah did have a secret daughter who was stillborn when she was only sixteen. Or so she thought. Now she wonders if the mother she fell out with all those years ago and recently died told her the truth. So many secrets and twists it's difficult to know who to trust. And I didn’t see that end coming! A recommended read.

Title: "On A Quiet Street" by Carla Kovach

Review:

Buckle up, mystery lovers! Carla Kovach's "On A Quiet Street" is the suburban thriller that will have you eyeing your neighbors with suspicion. It's like Desperate Housewives met Sherlock Holmes in a twisty, turny funhouse of secrets!

The story kicks off on what seems like your average, leafy lane where our heroine lives with her "perfect" husband, Cain. Enter stage left: Charlotte, an 18-year-old with a bombshell that could give soap operas a run for their money. She’s looking for her biological parents, and guess who’s doorstep she lands on? Yep, you guessed it!

From here, the plot thickens like a good stew. Our protagonist's mind is a whirlwind of doubts. Has Cain been moonlighting as a secret dad? The suspense is so intense, you'll be chewing your popcorn with bated breath. Kovach’s storytelling is a delightful blend of intrigue and "I did NOT see that coming" moments.

What's super fun about this book is the game of cat and mouse that unfolds. You're never quite sure who knows what, who's hiding something, or who’s going to spill the beans next. It's like playing Clue in a neighborhood where everyone could be the culprit.

But hold onto your detective hats, because just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, Kovach throws in a twist that will have you shouting, “No way!” at the pages. The realization that our main character has her own closet of skeletons is the cherry on top of this deliciously scandalous tale.

"On A Quiet Street" is more than a thriller; it's a wild ride through the twists and turns of suburban life where every perfect lawn might just be hiding a not-so-perfect secret. Carla Kovach has outdone herself in creating a world that’s as charmingly deceitful as it is entertaining.

So, if you're looking for a book that's a cross between a juicy gossip session and a detective novel, look no further. Just remember, the next time your neighbor waves hello, you might want to wave back... or then again, maybe not!

I have read every book written by Carla Kovach and I love the Gina Harte series, but I didn't click much with this standalone. The plot sounded interesting and caught my interest, but the pacing was too slow, which gave me ample time to dislike Leah, and not care about what happens further in the story.
I'll keep reading the Gina Harte books and other standalones, but this one was sadly not for me.

Thank you to the publisher who provided me with an e-copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! Based on the description, I thought all the drama was going to revolve around Cain, so was pleasantly surprised when it was Leah’s life with the drama. Lots of connections between characters I did not see coming. Lots of secrets and suspense. Lots of twists where you think a certain character is guilty of something to find out it is actually someone else. I don’t want to give too much away, but glad Leah does what she does in the end as far as her relationships go.

I enjoyed this book for the most part. Leah has struggled since she was 16 with trusting people. She had a fall out with her mom and now thinks her husband is cheating on her. When her old life comes back to her she doesn’t know what to believe. Definitely some twists I didn’t see coming.

Book 100 of 2023!!

I just finished this book on New Years Eve and as usual with books by Carla Kovach it has been a great thriller! I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley and it will be out on the 15th of January.

Leah lives with her husband Cain but somehow she still can't trust him after being cheated on in the past. Then, strangers appear and her world is turned upside down - a girl claims to be her daughter. However, her daughter died in childbirth. What is going on? Can she find out the truth? Who can she trust?

Loved this fast paced domestic thriller with some great twists I absolutely did not see coming! It doesn't happen often that I'm stuck guessing until nearly the end to find out what happened, but this one did!

An absolute recommendation!

5/5 ⭐

Leah thinks her biggest problem in life is that her husband might be cheating on her. However, as she tries to clear her late mom’s house, she is confronted by a girl claiming to be her daughter. This leads Leah on a treacherous path.

I thought this one had promise but it just wasn’t suspenseful for me. I think it took too long to build things up, and some of the twists seemed obvious.

I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

On a Quiet Street is a gripping, can't-put-down psychological thriller. While from the outside, Leah's life looks perfect, it is, in fact, far from it. Leah believes her husband Cain is having another affair. Her estranged mother just past away and Leah never found out what her mother wanted to tell her before her death. And, now, she has an unknown teenager showing up at her door proclaiming that Leah is her mother. Who is Charlotte? Is it possible that Leah is her mother?

On a Quiet Street is fast-paced and full of twists and surprises. The story is told through four parts and two POVs. I really enjoyed first reading all of the events from Leah's perspective and then rereading them through the second POV's perspective. I think the dual storytelling added a lot to the overall plot. The book wasn't overly predictable, which was nice. I like to be surprised during thrillers. The characters are mostly relatable with a few very unlikable characters (but they're meant to be unlikable).

I will definitely be recommending On a Quiet Street to any fans of psychological thrillers. I will also be reading more of Carla Kovach's books.

The latest novel by Carla Kovach is somewhat lighter that the previous ones, although I liked it. I found the main character to be a little annoying at first and I gradually came to like her better. The fact that the story is described through the eyes of several characters is also nice. All in all a good story which I would recommend reading.

Leah is having a bit of a bad time. She thinks her husband has rekindled an old affair. She is having to clear her estranged dead mother's house and now she has been approached by a teenage girl saying that she is her mother.
This throw's Leah and she says it's impossible as she hasn't got a child. The girl then says she can prove it and Leah has to consider the possibility that her mother might have lied to her 18 years before.
This is a compelling tale that leads the reader up several dead ends before the truth is slowly revealed.
A very good read again from Ms Kovach.

This book started with a bang, and I was engrossed straight away. It drew me in!
However, the more the book went on the more far fetched, absurd and manic it became. It definitely felt like a book of two halves. The second half was just too ridiculous, and made me loose interest.
It felt like a completely different book altogether.

Overall, Kovach's writing style was right up my street but the plot itself just didn't know what it was. Couldn't keep me engaged.

I'm a big fan of Carla Kovach's work so I was thrilled to receive an advance copy of her latest offering.
This book explores the connection between Leah, her mum and a trio of adolescents who present at her house one night.
The book explores difficult themes, rape, miscarriage, adultery, toxicity and it keeps the reading guessing from start to finish.
Whilst enjoyable, this book didn't have the usual Kovach appeal for me. I think this may be because I prefer the police procedural she so effectively delivers. Nonetheless it is definitely worth a read.
