This was an intriguing story told from two POVs. First, we meet Regan who is shocked when the FBI shows up at her door. They have a warrant and share details about her husband, John. It seems their entire life has been built on his lies. A seemingly successful financial advisor, who in reality has just conned all of his clients. How is Regan going to provide for her two young children with John gone and how much did she know?
The story then switches to John’s POV. We learned where he came from and what decisions brought him to this place.
The story was fast paced, and it was interesting that the author didn’t switch POV’s every other chapter. We stayed with Reagan until something happens that brings John to the forefront. I enjoyed the story, even if I didn’t really like either of the main characters.

I really liked this story and then it switched POV's which is ok and I did find John's perspective interesting and relevant to the story but I do feel his POV could have been tailored down a bit. I found it to be a little too detailed to keep the reader engaged so after a while I was getting bored with his POV but ultimately I did like the ending. There are twists and turns and the story was interesting and kept me guessing as to what was going to happen. I especially liked the epilogue as I think it leaves the door open for a possible sequel in the future.

This was a very interesting story with many layers. I really enjoyed the dual perspective of the same timeline. Learning John’s backstory was important to the main plot and provided context for his future decision making, but it also dragged a bit at times. This isn’t an edge of your seat, fast paced thriller, but it is a solid story with good character development and a compelling plot. Overall, I enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed this book. I kept changing my mind about whether Regan and John were good or bad. In the end, I realized they were both flawed people who had difficult childhoods and were just trying to find love and succeed in life, even if they made mistakes.

I definitely recommend this book… thanks Netgalley for letting me get access to the ARC!

This book is absolutely amazing in the first half. It lost me a bit in the second half a lot of the stuff I felt was being repeated that was needed, although it also added an interesting perspective on a situation from the eyes of a different person. Telling you who that person is and whose perspectives we are talking about would be a spoiler so I will not mention it.
This book is an examination of how any person is not all good, or all bad, but 1 million shades of Grey. It is about the test of a marriage, and how parenthood affects the marriage, it is about how far you will go for your children for your wife for your husband and whether or not you will sacrifice your husband for your children and vice versa.
For me the characters of the book are on the edge of being relatable and unbelievable. There are dimes during the narration that I could imagine these characters being people I’ve come across my life, but then they would go and do something absolutely unexpected and I would wonder who would do that.
Overall, this is a fun book to read on a weekend.
Thankyou NetGalley for my advance reader copy!

Regan Peters has always known her husband John is less than what he seems.
The day after he gifts her with a magnificent house on a lake on her birthday with the
deed in her name only, he vanishes.
When he fails to come home, leaving her with their two small children and FBI
agents pounding on their door with search warrants, she finally sees just how "unreal"
he actually was. Accused of a Ponzi scheme with millions stolen from innocent victims, his
misdeeds have now changed her life forever.
But is she really as innocent as seems??
Stay tuned.
A very good thriller with unexpected twists that will blow you away.
The characters are very well presented; intense dislike of some will attest to great
descriptive writing at work.
The story unwinds quickly and will keep you at it long past your reading allotted time has come and gone.

I've had a great time and would have loved to read another book by that author. It was easy to love and even sympathize with the characters. I liked that it wasn't like any other book with lies and deceptions in a marriage. It's gone deeper, and I really felt for the woman and her husband. It seems to me that it's written well, and it's a reasonably fast read.

The Day He Never Came Home showcases how a mother will do absolutely everything in her power to protect her kids. Do we really know the ones we love? Regan thought she knew her husband John, until the FBI showed up with a warrant to search their home and arrest him - only he’s already disappeared.

As a midwestern girl, I loved that this popcorn thriller was set in the twin cities! Easy to read, fast chapters keep your attention as you watch how Regan’s one simple, innocent lie spirals into more. Where is John, and what happened to destroy their seemingly perfect lives? It really did give off vibes similar to “The Last Thing He Told Me” but with a fresh twist and I’m totally here for it. 🍿 👏

Such a good read! I started off thinking it was a gone girl type of story only to be wrapped up in so much more. I went back and forth about how I felt about Regan and John. Were they good or bad? I ended up coming to the conclusion that they were both just messed up individuals from their early childhood trying to be loved and make it in this world and they messed up along the way! Highly recommend this book and author!

Wow! Twisted read. Regen Peters and John Peters have what appears to be an idealistic marriage. Two wonderful children a boy and a girl 4&2 years old. Regen is a stay at home mom by choice but is a very talented interior decorator. John has his own business taking other people’s money and turning it into a fortune. All is not as it seems. What develops is the disappearance of husband John, FBI involvement ,murder, lies, danger. Is there a way out of this disaster they find themselves in? Very good read. I was given an advanced reader copy of this well written book by NetGalley and I am freely sharing my review.

I enjoyed this and would definitely read another book by this author. The characters were easy to like and even empathize with. I enjoyed the fact that this wasn’t like every other book with lies and deception in a marriage. It went deeper and I really felt for both the wife and the husband. I feel like this was well written and a decently fast paced read.

Publication date: July 9th, 2024
Page count: 368
Genre: domestic thriller
Setting: Minnesota
POV: multiple

Reagan is a stay at home mom, with a husband that is a financial advisor, who is preoccupied with work. One day the FBI comes looking for her husband for committing fraud, and she realizes that much of her husband John is a fraud. She soon has the FBI, criminals that John dealt with, and others wanting things from her. Who was John? How will she protect herself and her children?

The first 1/2 of the book from Reagan’s POV is very engaging. About 1/2 through the book’s POV becomes John’s, and it became a bit dry with excessive details, and much less engaging. Picked up again at the end.

Twists, turns, suspense.
