I have been following Sarah Cray's work for awhile now through Let's Make art and on social media. I love her art and her teaching style, so naturally I really enjoyed this book! I love the positive tone of the book, as well as the colorful, gorgeous images throughout. Sarah really breaks down the medium in a simple way to help even the least experienced painter feel comfortable with starting. I love her 'pep talk' sections of the book to boost morale and keep you going, and I find the shape guides for each project to be an excellent help when approaching a new subject. The book is filled with a wide range of projects from simple to more complex. All along the way, Sarah cheers you on & encourages you to continue trying and learning. As a lover of integrating elements of nature into my art, the botanical projects were my favorites! I did like the animal ones as well. This would be an amazing book to add to my art library and to gift to those interested in learning more about watercolor painting!

Gorgeous paintings, the author is clearly talented and is sharing her hard earned knowledge with this book. It was broken down step by step, but she made it look effortless.

“Watercolor Your Way” by Sarah Cray is a refreshing take on the art of watercolor painting. This book promises to guide novices and seasoned artists alike through a personal journey with watercolor, emphasizing the joy and freedom found in this delicate medium.

I have always loved to watch Sarah Cray teach watercolor on her videos for “Let’s Make Art”. Her approach to teaching watercolor is both innovative and deeply personal. She encourages readers to see beyond traditional techniques and to embrace their unique styles. The book is structured into chapters that gradually build on each other, starting with the basics of watercolor materials and moving into more complex concepts such as color theory, composition, and texture.

Cray’s teaching style is approachable and encouraging. Her step-by-step instructions are clear and easy to follow, making watercolor accessible to artists at all levels. What sets this book apart is Cray’s ability to infuse confidence in her readers, urging them to experiment and find joy in every brushstroke.

The book is beautifully illustrated with Cray’s own artwork, serving not only as a teaching tool but also as a source of inspiration. Each demonstration is accompanied by high-quality images that showcase the versatility and vibrancy of watercolor.

As a reader, I found “Watercolor Your Way” to be more than just an instructional book; it’s a journey of creative discovery. Cray’s passion for watercolor is contagious, and her personal anecdotes and tips throughout the book add a warm, mentor-like presence.

Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to break out of a creative rut, “Watercolor Your Way” is an invaluable resource. The lessons are designed to be accessible, allowing for flexibility in how one might choose to delve into the world of watercolor.
