Dylan and Rose...Dylan has not seen his ex in quite awhile. She is in law enforcement and asks to see him. He has no clue what she might want...secrets and red herrings. This talented author has written a cannot put down novel. Although fiction, this story reads like nonfiction, at times. A movie possibly? Who knows? Might be a good one. Trying to discern the ending is not easily accomplished with this book. Thanks Netgalley.

This book was an amazing read! So many unexpected twists. Love how detailed it was when it came to the location of the book. I was not expecting the twists that he threw in at the end of the book and I loved it completely. The other did a great job writing this!

This was by far my best read for January. The author makes it so easy to come to your own conclusions. However, you would not have been right with any of the conclusions. Every one of the turns in this book is so unexpected. I loved it and will be recommending this book to everyone.

Alright, so this book was a pleasant surprise, I finished it in a few short hours and really enjoyed a few aspects of the novel. The writing style is up my alley and is narrative but purposeful.
Dylan is a former cop turned PI, he meets with his ex wife Rose who wants to hire him to look into a case that others say is a suicide. Dylan senses that there's more to the story but can't determine what. He ends up witnessing Rose's murder and becomes the number one suspect. Dylan teams up with Rose's current husband to find her killer, and it feels more like he's doing it for Rose than to clear his own name (which I loved). I won't give away any spoilers, but the couple of twists were fantastic and really unexpected. There's a mystery within a mystery- who killed Rose and what were they hiding?

Now, a couple of things I didn't like- Dylan is helped by Mia a lawyer who bails him out of jail. I want to see more of this relationship and how it developed into that ending, because what?
The last thing and again- this is hard to not give spoilers- but it felt too clean. It was wham bam thank you ma'am and that's it. There are a lot of things that happen in the last 50 pages or so that I would have liked to see more of, Dylan needs more answers about he's wife past and why she left him- that felt unresolved along with the questions Rose's family has- like why did her mother accept that money so easily..

Overall, I really enjoyed this and it kept me on edge wanting to know what happened- just wish there was a little bit more of what actually happened.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and author for this advanced read. All opinions are my own.

Wow, wow, wow! I have not a read a book this fast in a very, very long time! I could not put it down and needed to know how it ended (and who the bad guy was) STAT! Harry Hunsicker did a phenomenal job writing this mystery/thriller, and I will recommend it to anyone looking for a fast-paced whodunit.

Here are a few things I enjoyed about "The Life and Death of Rose Doucette": (1) the friendship the main character Dylan, a Dallas PI, had with his lawyer, (2) the relationship that developed between Dylan and his ex-wife's current husband (I know... that's crazy!), (3) the short chapters that kept me up late reading and (4) the twists and turns that had me guessing literally until the very end of the book.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for the eARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

The Life and Death of Rose Ducette is a fast moving, intriguing mystery that features Rose Doucette's former husband, PI Dylan Fisher. Rose, who is a homicide detective, asks to meet Fisher after not having seen him for three years, and this leads to Fisher's observation of Rose's murder for which he is accused of being the perpetrator.

The setting of West Texas and Dallas is well laid out, and when PI Fisher teams up with Tito, an attorney who is currently married to Rose, the suspense increases. Tito and Fisher are also an interesting duo of opposite personalities who add some humor to the book but who also keep the action going.

The plot of the novel is clever and compelling, and the final plot twist at the end of the book is an unexpected surprise. Harry Hunsicker is a masterful story teller, and his characters and the plot are tightly drawn and carefully executed.

Thanks to Oceanview Publishing and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book.

Many thanks to @NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing for the eARC to read and review!

This was a great crime thriller that I binged in a day! I loved the main character—Dylan—an ex-cop turned private investigator. His narrative, along with the short chapters, had a comfortable fluidity to it that kept me engaged until the very end.

Somehow this happens to be my first of Hunsicker’s novels, but I’ll definitely be coming back for more—and I wouldn’t be sad if this ends up being book 1 of a new series either.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC! Even though they are an unusual duo, DI Rose's present husband and ex-husband are committed to discovering who killed her. They will stop at nothing to unearth her secrets and find him. The author masterfully created a sense of familiarity with the characters that was uncanny. I gasped in several places throughout the novel when I read about something that had occurred to them. You'll be flipping the pages of this fast-paced mystery as quickly as you can to find out what happens next.

This story has mystery, secrets, investigations, allegations, surprises, enemies, etc... The story is more plot driven than character based.
The author packed it full of action with something continuously happening to keep your attention. I would recommend this to anyone who likes detective & mystery fiction. The only downfall for me is not being able to connect with the characters.
Thank you to the publisher for an ARC through NetGalley. This is my personal opinion and I have received no compensation for my review.

3.5/4⭐️

**ARC provided by the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

First impressions: The main character is a bit of a douche for ignoring her wit/intuition. It just striked me as condescending. I know it's a bit rough to say all this, but I just got that impression.

Luckily, he slowly won me over. I think he is softier than he lets on, and I'm glad we get to see that side of him, too. It makes him more likable. I wouldn't say I love him, though. The other characters were interesting, too.

Not only that, but as I kept reading, it got more and more addictive. That also means that the start was a bit dull. Don't get me wrong, it had a lot of action, but personally, it took me a while to get into it. I guess it's been a while since I've read a thriller mystery. There were some technical terms that I didn't understand and some details that I didn't catch since I'm not from the US.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read. It was intriguing and a bit creepy, but not to the point of having trouble sleeping as a side effect, so that's good. The unfolding of the truth broke my heart a little (second time I say this in 2024 and January's not even over), but I that's the thing about this genre. I do think there were some plot holes that could be polished.

Lastly, the epilogue was a bit weird. There were some aspects of it that didn't make sense to me. It made me lower the rating.

Thanks to Net Galley for this ARC (advanced reader copy) in exchange for a review.

Being from Texas and having visited Dallas numerous times, I immediately connected to the setting. Hunsicker was able to develop PI Dylan Fisher’s voice and character as someone authentic and someone I was rooting for. The pacing was great, and even though I figured out the twist, it was an enjoyable read.

When you have to pair up with your Ex Wife's current husband to solve her murder and clear your name, things can get a little crazy.
Dylan the Ex cop and current PI is accused of murdering his ex wife who I also a cop. She calls him out of the blue because she needs his help and ends up dead hours later, with him as the prime suspect. With the help of a close friend and the new husband they follow the leads to find she had been hiding a lit if her past from everyone.

I really enjoyed reading this action packed book, it hooks you from the beginning to the end. The writing is smooth and well thought out. I highly recommend, you won't be disappointed!

I enjoyed this book. Thank you, Netgally, for the ARC! I was worried when I read some reviews saying it started out slow. I did not find that to be the case. It pulled me right in, and IMO had a good pace. There were assumptions you could make and some you made wrong, some small twists and larger twists with a good ending. All-in-all a good read.

This novel was a unexpected hit with me. I happened across it while browsing one afternoon and took a chance on it. Crime thrillers featuring an ex-cop investigator aren't my go-to novels, but this was unusually addictive. Dylan Fisher is a former police officer, now a private investigator, who is contacted by his ex-wife Rose Doucette about a case she is working on. He notices that Rose isn't like her typical self and is startled to realize that she is afraid of something or someone. As she leaves their meeting, Dylan observes a car following Rose and so he tails them. The driver closes in on Rose aggressively and pulls up next to her in a parking lot, shooting her dead and almost running Dylan down.

The lead police detective investigating Rose's murder is an old enemy of Dylan's and very happy to pin her murder on him. Dylan undertakes the investigation on his own, along with Rose's current husband Tito, all the while trying to evade a group of professional hitmen on his trail.

The Life and Death of Rose Doucette is a crime thriller with a lot of heart. Dylan Fisher is a likeable character, and Tito makes a perfect sidekick. The story is action-packed with a brisk pace, but also has overtones of sadness and regret in the unresolved issues between Dylan and Rose. While Dylan and Tito are left haunted by the dark secrets that Rose kept from them, the conclusion is satisfying and provides some surprises for the reader. Fans of Harry Bosch would appreciate Dylan Fisher, so let's hope there is more to come.
