If you've read Today Tonight Tomorrow, you are familiar with Rowan Roth and Neil McNair. If you haven't read it, you're missing out and should pick up a copy immediately. These two characters are one of the great YA romances in literature. In Past Present Future, we pick back up at the end of the summer, when Rowan and Neil are heading to separate East Coast colleges (Emerson for her, NYU for him), and struggling with the classic long-distance relationship trope. (Speaking of tropes, this series is full of some of the best of them. Enemies to lovers, rivals to lovers, emotional scars, right person - wrong time, forced proximity, opposites attract, etc.)

One of my favorite things about this book is how realistically Rowan and Neil are written. They go through the struggles of so many teenagers before them - family issues, loneliness, making new friends, feeling unsure about themselves and their abilities - in a way that is so incredibly relatable, funny when it’s called for, and melancholy when it is not. They each alternate between feeling hopeless and hopeful, lonely and fulfilled, scared and happy, and a myriad of other emotions that anyone who has survived their teen years can understand.

One of the greatest strengths of Rowan and Neil’s relationship is their ability to communicate. Sure, they sometimes stumble and falter, but in the end, they are both mature enough to handle what life throws at them, and come out the other side even better than before.

I am so glad Rachel Lynn Solomon decided to write this sequel. It is beautifully written. Readers deserved a second chance to check in on these characters as individuals, and as a couple, as they begin to navigate growing up together, and apart, and boy, did Solomon deliver. Perhaps down the road there will be a round three for Rowan and Neil? We can only hope.

Thank you to NetGalley, Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing, and Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Rachel Lynn Solomon is one of my favorite authors because she writes such amazing characters. I love how they always have depth and quirkiness and they find their way into your heart.

Past Present and Future is the sequel to Today Tonight and Tomorrow and it picks up Rowan and Neil’s story. They are living their separate lives at different colleges and working through all the struggles that come along with a long distance relationship.

This was such a great sequel to Today Tonight Tomorrow!!! I feel like both Rowan and Neil were able to explore their college life in realistic ways without too many cliches. I loved seeing how Rowan’s life as a writer progressed through the book and how Neil adapted to his new environment. The book had plenty of sweet moments with the two too which made me really happy to see. Definitely give both books a read!!

Thank you to Netgalley for the arc!

Oh, I could not love Rachel Lynn Solomon more. I love all of her books for her characters--their sweetness, their flaws, the way they are so human and relatable. It feels especially wonderful to have a continuation of the story of two really beloved characters, Rowan and Neil. In their first book, it took them a while to realize that they weren't enemies after all, but that love and hate are two very closely related feelings. This book shows you what it's like when you take your first love out into the real world, when Neil and Rowan have to do long-distance and contend with the stress of college life, making new friends, trying to figure out who you are and what you love in the world, and also mental health. Neil's struggle with his mental health is so sensitively and realistically rendered by Solomon. And the way he and Rowan struggle makes the book more than just a Romance--I think it definitely has very Romantic elements, but it's complex and mature in a way that I don't see in many YA Romance. I really imagine these two out in the world, loving each other, and trying their best for one another. I really want them to be true, and I can't think of a better way to say I recommend this book so so so much.

Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Long live Neil and Rowan! This sequel to Today, Tonight, Tomorrow was the perfect continuation of Rowan and Neil's love. Past, Present, Future did a phenomenal job of keeping the playfulness and wit of these characters while showing them start to grow and mature while they deal with real world and realistic college problems. This book reads bit older than the YA range it is marketed in, based on the sexual content I would put this more in the New Adult category.

I love these characters so much, they are literally me! In this installment of Rowan and Neil's story, they're moving to the northeast for college, but not everything about their new obligations and their relationship itself is simple. This book made me terrified for the future in general, but I loved getting more from these lovable characters. This book honestly made me anxious reading it, and I did cry later on, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm so glad I got to see my favorites again, and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who liked T3 (except high school seniors, save yourselves).

Rachel writes some of my favorite books, this now being one of them!!

So, well, where do I begin? This was everything I could’ve wanted and more. Rowan and Neil have my heart and I’m so happy we got more of them!

One thing I’ll add is how well these characters are written, you can only learn so much about characters. Though, somehow Rachel leaves us knowing so much more than anticipated in the best way.

Watching them navigate life and everything in between was so real. There’s so much that goes into adulthood and finding out who you truly are, and this covered so many of those challenges especially long distance. This was so wholesome and I was giddy through every page. As a college student myself, I could just heavily relate to them both. Life is hard, and figuring out everything when your normal is changing… well it’s tricky. Though they made it work and I loved it, well I still love it and don’t think I’ll get over this book!!

Overall, this book was amazing, and just so romantic!! Their love is everything. I genuinely could not put this down, so fans of “Today Tonight Tomorrow” will not be disappointed!! This is such a great read!! Also, their summer… I was squealing.

Thank you for the ARC

“The romantic part isn’t just falling in love… it’s staying in love, too.”

This story is a look at what happens to Rowan and Neil after we closed the pages of Today Tonight Tomorrow (which is one of my all time favorite YA books).

I feel like the author captured the doubt and uncertainty and loneliness of going off to college, and while it was a little tiring at times to feel those feelings alongside the characters, it was really sweet to see them grow and process the change.

It’s the small gestures and little things that keep the love alive, and “the very best parts happen after the book is over.”

PAST PRESENT FUTURE by Rachel Lynn Solomon is the forthcoming sequel to TODAY TONIGHT TOMORROW, which comes out June 4th.

Romance book sequels are like act 2 of Into the Woods: things seemed great before, but now we're back from intermission and and things are going to get messy before they resolve for real. Rowen and Neil fell in love on the last day of school, but now they're in college at different schools, texting to figure out how to do life and long distance.

P3 gets into some heavy topics, even more than T3 did, as real life rears its ugly head. A lot of the story deals with Neil's dad (Bad Dad alert!), as well mental health struggles, including on-page panic attacks and depression. But, just like in Rowan's beloved romance books, they work together for their own Happily Ever After.

The way I was so upset that book one didn’t have a sequel or epilogue. THIS WAS EEEEVERYTHING!!!! It’s exactly what I wished for March of last year! Thank you, Rachel Lynn Solomon for this gift!

4.5 stars!!

Oh, how I have missed Rowen and Neil! I’m very grateful to receive this arc from the publishers and also I want to say thank you to Rachel for writing this wonderful story!

This was everything I needed! I laughed and cried. Oh, how much I wanted to hug Neil, I felt so sorry for him!
Long-distance relationships are hard work! I know because I have been in one. It puts pressure on everything you are going through together and not being able to comfort each other, makes it worse.

I love the chemistry between them, this story shows you how strong their love is and how they are willing to do anything to be together.

Also, you get to see how Neil is affected by his past, with his father being in prison. Rachel did a good job talking about anxiety and mental health!

I loved everything about this book and I can’t wait for my physical copy to come in June!!

If you haven’t read the first book here is your chance before this one comes out!!!

I absolutely adored Today Tonight Tomorrow. It was fluffy and humorous and sweet. I did not know what to expect with Past Present Future, but what I got was so much more.

Past Present Future follows Rowan and Neil as they go to college. She is in Boston and he is in New York. They decide to do long distance. It's a lot harder than they imagined.

This book was raw, real, and poignant. Rachel Lynn Solomon truly captured so many topics well in this book: what it is like to navigate life in a long distance relationship, mental illness, life away from home for the first time. I was completely blown away.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Shuster Books for my free copy!

I was so excited learning Rachel Lynn Solomon was writing another book about Neil and Rowan. I needed more and I really got it after Today, Tonight, Tomorrow! It's a rough transition from being top in your class to the bottom of the totem pole in college. It was refreshing to see Neil put himself out there. Also, his hesitation to discuss his family truthfully, given his father's circumstances, was completely realistic. Rowan moved further in pursuing her writing, but I was surprised at some of the choices she made. In the end, these two were strong on their own.. They didn't need each other, they just were a great, inseparable pair.

Growing up, going through the transitions of ending high school to becoming blossoming adults, all while being in love—it’s no simple task. I have walked that path. Loved the same boy since I was 14 & never looked back. This book so perfectly captured that feeling. I ADORED Today Tonight Tomorrow, so obviously I was so excited to experience Rowan & Neil as they navigated getting older together. But now, I feel I have been punched in the gut so many times after reading this. What a beautiful depiction of young people being in love & making it work & working through their individual battles together. I had to drop my kindle to cry QUITE A FEW TIMES. Rowan & Neil are just such a genuine depiction of the devotion that is so possible to have even when you’re young.

The way that each of them grew & changed from their college experience was SO REAL? The doubt, the way you realize you might not wanna do what you always thought, the mental health rollercoaster—perfectly put. But the friendships they made & how they still found ways to love each other throughout? I was a basket case. Neil. Meant everything to me. & Rowan, perfect girl, I know you’ll conquer the world.

I’m so grateful to experience this book. It’s five stars for me. If you didn’t read and or love Today Tonight Tomorrow, you might not LOVE this book—BUT IF YOU DID YOU WILL LOVE THIS. Thank you to NetGalley & Simon & Schuster for the arc!

I was so wonderful getting to be reunited with Rowan and Neil and to see their relationship develop even more in this book! With so many of the books I read, I'm always wondering what happens after the happily ever after and the author so kindly delivered that answer to her readers for these characters!
Past Present Futureis a heartwarming and poignant sequel that explores the complexities of long-distance love and the journey of self-discovery during the tumultuous first year of college.
The author expertly captures the essence of young love and personal growth, weaving a narrative that is both tender and relatable. Through alternating perspectives, readers witness the evolution of Rowan and Neil's relationship, as they confront their fears, celebrate their triumphs, and ultimately discover what it means to truly be there for each other.
With its authentic portrayal of the highs and lows of early adulthood and college, Past Present Future is a captivating and emotionally resonant read. The author's skillful storytelling and rich character development make this novel a must-read for anyone who has ever dared to love, dream, and navigate the unpredictable journey of life.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

This book hooked me in from the first chapter. I loved the character development and how the story progressed.

A charming sequel for readers who want to see a realistic portrayal of what happens after enemies become lovers. This story is told through the alternating perspectives of Rowan and Neil as they navigate a long distance relationship, moving away from friends and family, and adjusting to their Freshman year of college. Each character's struggles with communication and finding their place felt genuine and familiar. This story is a tonal departure from its predecessor and likely will not be as appealing to those who read romance for the escapism. Reading this book as an adult, it is hard not to insert your own biases about young love and the potential perils of becoming this committed so young. That being said, it is one of the few books I have read that does not seem to glamorize this coming-of-age milestone. It authentically shows that the college experience contains multitudes and can be full of freedom, loneliness, joy, and insecurity all at once. The couple at the center of the story are still witty overachievers who you want to root for; they're just dealing with the more complex issues associated with new adulthood.

I adore Rowan and Neil and this book picked up where their relationship left off in such a beautiful, realistic way. I did struggle a bit to read the first half of the book given how college-focused it was in a way that made me feel old but that is very much a me-problem given that it's a YA novel and their experiences are absolutely authentic and made sense for their characters. I think I would've really appreciated reading this if it existed when I was starting college.

Past Present Future by Rachel Lynn Solomon (sequel to Today Tonight Tomorrow)
Pub date: June 4th, 2024
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is it. The 5-star book I’ve been waiting for all year. This was the most beautiful, unputdownable book, and maybe even my new favorite from Rachel Lynn Solomon. It’s too hard to decide.

But what I do know is that Rowan and Neil’s story began in T3 when one magical night changed their lives. In classic high school enemies to lovers fashion, Rowan and Neil fought for their HFN (happily for now). Because college is coming. PPF picks up after the most wonderful summer of togetherness when Rowan and Neil both prepare to move cross-country to two different colleges in two different states. Long distance is never easy, and with these two overachievers come other challenges and doubts. Starting over is never easy, but at least they have each other…kind of. In a book that’ll have you rooting for them immediately, Rowan and Neil capture your heart and remind you of what young love should be.

T3 had me in all my feels, and now PPF has messed me up. College isn’t easy, and I can relate to the struggles both had with finding themselves personally and academically away from home. Rowan and Neil trying to keep their relationship alive and find themselves both together and independently was fun to read about, and I’m so happy we got more information about their HFN because college breakups are all too real. I loved the treatment of romance, intimacy, friendship, and mental health so much. This was the sequel I never knew I needed, and now I can’t imagine my life without it. Easily the best book I’ve read this year by easily one of my favorite authors!

Thank you @netgalley for an ARC of this book!
