I had high hopes for this title but I don’t see myself putting the practices together for my writing. I like the idea of morning pages more than the process described in this book. I do appreciate the ARC provided by NetGalley. Three stars.

As a new writer, this book is going to be immensely helpful with the battling self-doubt and making accurate self-encouragement. The exercises and 30 day habit forming journaling practice will be useful to any writer or aspiring writer. This book is very short but packs a meaningful punch helping you acquire the attitude needed to succeed.

This very short, but surprisingly helpful book includes very tangible tips for breaking through a writing rut. It could have benefited from a bit more of a workbook-style approach, it will be useful to all creative writers.

It was an interesting read but not a routine a would follow. Others might find it helpful and keep them motivated and focused on their writing.

Thank you netgalley for an advanced ARC of this book

Reading the beginning advice was useful and I do plan to use some of what I read to practise, I was excepting more information but after a short period of writing the rest was sheets u can print out to use.

I see this being useful for beginners and giving them somewhere to start

This book is a journal with guidance on how to choose a word of the day and process through it. It brought my attention to something I hadn’t previously considered, a conflict word, A word that comes to mind while brainstorming that doesn’t seem to fit with the chosen word. The word of the day is an interesting daily process that helps a writer or creator generate more content, more often. I enjoyed learning about this process and I will definitely use it in my day to day creative work.

In advance, I’d like to thank the Publisher and Netgalley for the free review copy in return for an honest review, no other inducements have been received by me for this, my words are my own.

As a writer myself, I’m always interested in reading books on how to improve my writing or improve my motivation to write. In truth, I don’t need the encouragement, but it’s always good to see how everyone else does things.

This is not a book for someone trying to write a novel, this is for someone who is either just starting on the practise of writing, or who has been out of practise for a while and wants to get back into things.

It’s a basic outlay of keeping track of what you’re doing each day and making a note against things when they don’t go your way. This in turn leads to being more honest with what you’re saying you’re doing through the day and this leads to planning more realistically with what you want to get out of your day against what you’re likely to get out of your day.

Would this be a useful tool for many people? Probably.

Would I use it? No, but I write every day as something I have to do just to be happy with myself that day, so I’m probably not the intended audience.

It’s clear, well written, little bit on the spiritual side, much talk about Word of the Day Practise that’s repeated throughout the guide, almost like trying to reinforce the notion by continual repetition, and if that doesn’t work, of the 184 pages that the book purports to have, pages 45-184 are four pages (the four pages you’re supposed to fill in for the Word of the Day Practise) repeated thirty times so you can just print them all out at once.

Interesting idea, but not one for me.

Writers have to write and this book helps you figure out how to fit it into your days. This book gives you a simple writing practice to do each day. When something is simple, you can implement it and make it part of your regular routine.

In addition to the writing practice, you are given a way to evaluate your days to figure out where your time went. This practice is perhaps more life-changing than the writing practice.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review.

This book is great for beginner writers like me. The author set the book up as a Workbook to improve your writing. I love the suggestions given. I'm also thinking of using her guidelines to help my little one with his writing skills. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Word of the Day by Marilyn Horowitz

Word of the Day promises to transform your writing in 15 minutes a day. It is based on a simple yet powerful practice that helps writers tap into their creativity, overcome writer's block, and develop their skills. The author, Marilyn Horowitz, is a successful screenwriter, professor, and coach who has developed a unique method of teaching writing through the use of a single word.

The book is divided into three parts: the first part explains the theory and benefits of the Word of the Day practice, the second part provides 30 exercises to get you started, and the third part offers tips and resources to keep you going. Each exercise consists of choosing a word, writing it in a circle, and clustering around it for two minutes. Then, you write a paragraph, a scene, or a story based on the word and the cluster. The exercises are designed to stimulate your imagination, challenge your assumptions, and expand your vocabulary.

The book is easy to read and follow, and the exercises are fun and engaging. The author provides examples from her own work and from famous writers to illustrate the concepts and techniques. She also shares her insights and advice on various aspects of writing, such as structure, character, dialogue, genre, and style. The book is suitable for writers of all levels and genres, and can be used as a standalone guide or as a supplement to other writing courses or books.

Word of the Day is a book that will inspire you to write more, write better, and write with joy. It is a book that will make you fall in love with writing again.

This is a very short read, it's more of a workbook on the Word A Day Practice, that the author set up. It's easy to read and implement, the practice is quite straightforward. The journal pages will be helpful, especially to beginners in writing. I found the book not very novel or unique, the techniques applied are commonly known to writers. So for seasoned writers stuck in a rut, this won't be too useful. For beginners, it is a good start.

Great suggestions and techniques that I can use as a writer, but also for teachers to use in the classroom. Giving my students a "word of the day" as a quick write technique, helped built their vocabulary and get their creative juices flowing. Thank you Collective Ink Limited and Net Galley for this ARC.

While some of it was not necessarily a good fit for my own creativity and writing style, this was nevertheless a good resource on how to get your mind working in order to write

This is a short book with very simple exercises to help you find the time to write and build a writing practice. It would be useful for anyone who wants to write but can't find the time or motivation. As I say, the exercises are very simple and they aren't particularly original or inspiring but if you do them consistently for 30 days you will have started to develop your writing practice and will have something to build on.

Word of the Day : Transform Your Writing in 15 Minutes a Day. This is an excellent book for writers, and the genius is in its simplicity. The simple and quick technique will quickly connect writers to their basic story telling capabilities in a fun and playful way. It is based around the Mind Map concept and reaches right into your imagination before your inner critic has time to think about it. The book itself is an easy, enjoyable and quick read. Highly recommended, give it a try.

I like how the exercises are simple, practical and repetitive. This would actually be a good way to build a habit and there are worksheets to fill out at the end of the book for the whole 30 days. Most people don't end up writing because they don't have time, but this helps you start using your time.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

I was (happily) surprised by how straight forward this book was. It has a wonderful simplicity which means you're much more likely to carry out the tasks. I'm only a week in to the 'word of the day' task and I can see how it's helping me to think more creatively. I also really enjoyed the motivational aspect of the book. It's easy to believe that good writers are born, but I like Horowitz's encouragement that you can improve all levels of writing by carrying out exercises which enhance your natural skills.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an arc.
