What a perfect third installment of this series. The magic in this world is so well developed and rules clear. Hulda and Merritt are just as delightful and full in character as the first two books, but the further look into little Owein is just delightful. I was so hooked I devoured this book. And in CH fashion, the story wrapped up beautifully, not leaving my on an emotional hook, but also leaving that door open for the next story. It's one of the reasons I really love reading Charlie's books.

*4.5 out of 5 stars*

Our story continues!!! With the exploding revelations from Heir of Uncertain Magic, Boy of Chaotic Making tones it down a bit. BIKER is now essentially in Hulda's hands, Merritt finally gets to see his sisters, and Owein gets summoned by the Queen of England!

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was a good turn of adventure of Merritt, Hulda and Owein from the first two books. It seemed a little slower but I think that's because the intensity of the first two books wasn't so present in this book. The plot was interesting and opened up to a bunch of new characters.

The highlight of this book was definitely the growing relationship between Owein and Merritt. Those were the scenes I was definitely most invested in. While Hulda and Merritt's relationship still develops, and I love them - this book had a heavier focus on Owein. I loved hearing his thoughts and feelings and can't wait to see how much more these characters develop.

Book 4 cannot come soon enough as I am intrigued for the next journey Hulda, Merritt, and Owein have to encounter.

*AUDIO REVIEW - I love these narrators. It's a lot of fun listening to these books in audio format. I think I like Hulda's the most because Amanda Leigh Cobb does such a great job of bringing her personality through.

I did not want this book to be over!
I have loved and enjoyed every moment of this entire series. Charlie Holmberg's world of magic is original and engaging. I adore Owein and his child-like spirit, despite actually being an old man. I also adore stories about the family we choose, and love the family created by Hulda, Merritt, Owein, Beth and Baptiste.
This installment sees Hulda, Merritt and Owein traveling across the pond, making acquaintances in high places, and finding themselves at the center of a deadly plot.
While trying to unravel the mystery of who wants them out of London before Owein can get a body, Holmberg's characters continue to wrestle their own personal demons. Hulda must reconcile her independent spirit and career-driven life with the idea of also being a wife. She knows above all else she wants to do life with Merritt by her side, but her careful nature leaves her struggling with the "how" of being married while being in charge of BIKER.
Faced with the chance for a human body after so many long years leaves Owein struggling with growing up. For decades, without a body to age and change, Owein has been suspended in a child-like state. Though he has the years of experience of someone much older, he has missed the critical years of finding himself and growing up. Owein is determined to prove to everyone around him that he is already capable of taking care of himself. For the prospect of a body, Owein is ready to be whatever age that may mean, and straining at the leash to be his own person.
Merritt's biggest struggle is how to let Owein go. His head tells him Owein is older than anyone in the family but his heart has held Owein for so long as a child - a child in a helpless dog's body. Merritt has been the surrogate father for Owein for so long, it's difficult for him to contemplate any other dynamic.
The struggle of all Holmberg's characters as they teeter on the edge of life-changing events is so real and vulnerable. But their makeshift family is strong enough to see them through anything, no matter what.

My favorite book in the Whimbrel House so far!

I don't want to go into much detail and spoil the series, but this was such a wonderful magical adventure, and I'm glad Owein finally gets his own story told. The paranormal world is painted beautifully by the author, allowing readers to immerse themselves and forget about the real world for a while.

The mystery throughout the book kept me on my toes, and trying to guess who the bad guy was had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I loved seeing Merritt and Hulda's story progress as well, so I'm especially looking forward to more books in the series.

This is definitely not a stand alone, as it picks up where the previous books left off, so make sure to read those first.

This is such an absolutely wonderful book and series. I fell in love with Hulda, Merritt, and Owein and I love that we keep getting more of their stories! The magical world that Holmberg has created is one of my absolute favorites, and it's so easy to get lost in the story and not want to come out.

My favorite thing about this book was seeing more of Owein. The poor kid/house/dog has had an interesting life, and I love what feels like a happy-for-now at the end of this book for him. I cannot wait to see what happens for him next! I'm also excited to see more about the research being done that Hulda is bringing forward for funding--that could open this series up in so many wonderful directions!

I loved the trials and tribulations of Merritt and Hulda --seeing Merritt reunite with his family and start to master himself. I loved how Hulda is gradually loosening up--at least where Merritt and Owein are concerned. I love these characters, so much so that I was bawling at a certain point close to the end, because HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE THEM!?!

Do yourself a favor--read (or listen to, because the audio is fantastic) this book!

I voluntarily read/listened to and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fun addition to the Whimbrel House series by Charlie N Holmberg.

Taking place across the ocean in the UK, Owein takes center stage as Merritt looses his voice translating. Not only do we get a new mystery to solve, we also gain knowledge into the Lore behind the different magic systems and their origins, and we get to see magical artifacts, new spells and meet new magic users from different disciplines.

Duel narration makes for an emersive listening experience, and having two extremely talented narrators makes Boy of Chaotic Making a book you'll want to listen to again and again.

I am absolutely looking forward to the next installment.

Thank you, Charlie N. Holmberg, 47North and NetGalley for the early review copies in exchange for my honest review.
