I have loved the rest of the books in this series and the kill list solidified that for me. I recommend this series to anyone who loves thrillers.

So this isn’t a standalone but I read it as such

I think I did myself a disservice in doing so because I didn’t know who the characters were or how they were connected.

That being said,I did enjoy the dual timelines and the overall plot (A serial 🔪 was convicted of murder 25 years ago, but did they convict the wrong man?) but ultimately I got a bit bored- probably because I didn’t know the characters and had no stake in the game.

The Kill List is the third installment in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series. The book follows Henley and her team as they reopen a set of serial crimes from twenty-five years ago. Andrew Streeter was originally found guilty in 1996 of the murders of five young people, despite maintaining his innocence. Now, Streeter’s convictions have been overturned, as new evidence implies the original investigation was corrupt. When it becomes apparent that the real killer is still out there, and hunting a new set of victims, Henley and her team race to figure out who is responsible. This can be read as a stand-alone novel, however I would recommend reading the previous two installments first for a better understanding of the characters and their backstories.

As with all of the books in this series, The Kill List is fast-paced and can get fairly graphic and dark at times. Personally, I like a twisty read so I enjoy that aspect of this series. This installment felt a bit long and didn’t really give any clues as to who the real killer was until far into the story. Instead, the beginning focused more on whether or not DCI Rhimes, the team’s mentor who recently died, was part of the corrupt investigation. There was also a lot of character development around Henley and Ramouter’s personal lives which was interesting but not completely necessary to the plot. I would have liked to have read more about the investigation into the real killer and I think Matheson could have cut out a good 50 pages in this one.

That being said, Matheson is a pro at weaving an interesting and unique plot. DI Henley is a bad ass, and this book set the stage for the next installment, which I eagerly await.

A special thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Hanover Square Press, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest review.

I absolutely love this series and love everything about DCI Anjelika Henry! This one did not disappoint. An interesting case plus page turning developments in the lives of our recurring characters…it’s just a big yes for me. I cannot wait to see where this series goes. Perfect for fans of Lars Kepler.

4.25/5 stars! I love a good crime novel and this book definitely delivered. I love the idea of reopening cold cases and Henley was a strong character. I enjoyed the story, even if the pacing did drag a bit at times. I will be looking for the next book in this series soon.

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

“The Kill List” is the third instalment to the Inspector Anjelica Henley series. This can be read as a stand alone and you will have essentially full understanding for the book, however I recommend reading the previous 2 books first for a deeper understanding of the characters and their relations to one another!

The plot follows Andrew who was arrested and charged with 5 life sentences in 1996 for the brutal murders of 5 teens, despite claiming his innocence the entire time. In present day new DNA exonerates Andrew and proves he was in fact innocent this whole time, but unfortunately he is found dead before he can enjoy his freedom.

Inspector Henley is dreading having to reopen the case that haunts her still to this day, but there is a serial killer out there who needs to be behind bars.

What I liked about it:
I found this thriller to be fast paced with high stakes. Despite the dark themes and nature of the plot I didn’t find anything too graphic, gory or disturbing. There are lots of breadcrumbs spread throughout for the reader to pick up on as they join along the investigative work to find the killer.

Themes: Murder mystery, Race, Class, Justice, Police Procedures, Marital problems.

Thank you to Nadine Matheson, Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for the EARC!

Publish date: August 6th

An intriguing dive into a decades old cold case. Kept my attention from start to finish. Some great twists.

3rd book in the Angelica Henley mystery/thriller series. I received an ARC copy before I realized it was a series so I had to read the previous books before this one. Mystery/Thriller aren’t my favorite genre but this author really is making me love it. I like how uses flashbacks scenes throughout the book to give readers insight into the thoughts of murder suspect, victims and the officers looking to solve the case. I also enjoy learning more about the personal lives of the officers. Since this book ended on a cliffhanger, I’ll assume book #4 is being written and I can’t wait to read.

Title-The kill list @queennads
Rating-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Get ready for a thrilling ride with The Kill List, the third book in the Detective Inspector Henley series. This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the other two books in the series first. By doing so, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the relationships between the characters and their backstories, which will enhance your overall reading experience.

Andrew Streeter was arrested in 1996 for committing five brutal murders. Fast forward to present day, new evidence is brought to light showing that the original investigation was sloppy and possibly corrupt. This hits home for Di Henley as her old boss was apart of the original investigation. DI Henley must put any personal feelings aside while she re-opens the murder cases.

This was another fast paced thriller for me and I highly recommend this book if police procedural books/series are your thing😮‍💨👏🏽

Thank you @htp_hive @htpbooks @harlequinbooks @netgalley and @queennads for this advanced copy✨

If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, I highly recommend and add this one to your tbr as it’s not available for purchase until August 6,2024🙌🏽

The Kill List by Nadine Matheson is the third book in the Detective Inspector Henley series. It can be read as a standalone. The book had good action, suspense, and gruesome murders.

The ending will make you want more in this series. I would recommend this book and this author. A good storyteller with interesting characters and good twists to keep you reading.

DI Angelica Henley is back!
When she was just a teenager, her best friend and four other people were victims of a brutal serial killer. Andrew Streeter has spent the last 25 years in prison, still proclaiming his innocence. When he finally gets his case reviewed, numerous discrepancies arise. DCI Rhimes, Angelica’s old boss and friend might have set up Andrew’s arrest. Was he a corrupt cop? Angelica and her team will have to find out.
They also have to figure out who the real killer was. There is a lot going on in this book. People are once again being killed in the same brutal manner. Is there a copycat on the loose or is the same killer still choosing victims?
Besides the urgency to find this killer, both Angelica and the newest member of her team,Detective Ramouter are facing challenging circumstances at home. Angelica and her husband Rob are still at odds and their marriage is on very shaky ground.Ramouter’s wife, Michelle, and their son Ethan have joined him in London. She is battling early onset dementia, and the family is struggling to balance his very demanding career with her diagnosis.
The killings aren’t quite as gory as the prior books in this series but they’re still brutal. The pages just flew by as I needed answers to my questions regarding the killer.I always enjoy spending time with Anjelica and her team and look forward to the next book.

How is this series so dang good!!?? The Kill List continues the momentum of this powerful series! And of course this is such a hard review to write because all I want to do is gush about it, so let me at least try to be objective.

First of all, this was the shortest 500 page book ever! I flew through it, I love Matheson's pacing, there is literally never a dull moment in any of her books. The Kill List is one of those "I can't wait until I can read my book again" books, the kind you think about while you go about your day and waste no time diving back in whenever you can.

One of my favorite things about this series are the characters and their personal stories that get woven in. Each of them have some personal struggles they are dealing with and it's refreshing to read about normal problems being dealt with by someone with a far from normal job. That personal touch makes all the difference to me.

As far as plotting, Matheson is a master: She lays all the groundwork breadcrumbs that lead to one explosive finale! The reader gets to move right alongside the detectives and work the case, too!

I can't sing enough praise for this series, it is truly my favorite! Go read The Jigsaw Man if you haven't started the series yet! You won't be disappointed!

I received a free digital copy of The Kill List in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is my first read by this author and I wasn’t disappointed. Although I haven’t read the previous two books I was able to keep up with the story line. I do however have plans to go back and read the other two books. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.

The Kill List is the third book in a series that follows Detective Inspector Henley and a Serial Crime Unit. This book can be a standalone but if you are able to read the other two books first, I would definitely recommend it. It will allow you to get to know the relationships between those in the unit better and understand their backstories. I did like the personal connection this story had with Henley, and it helped to understand her better. While this particular story is wrapped up by the end, there is a new mystery woven into the end of the book, which will make you want to read the next book in the series. Definitely recommend The Kill List for anyone who enjoys suspenseful mysteries and doesn’t mind gruesome murders.

While an innocent man sits behind bars, a serial killer with a gruesome signature has started killing again. And only Anjelica Henley can stop him!
After twenty-five years behind bars, Andrew Kenan has just been exonerated. Newly discovered DNA evidence proves that he was not the cold-blooded serial killer the world thought he was, the one who sewed his victims' eyes shut before burying them alive. Before Kenan can get his freedom he's found dead in his prison cell! Inspector Anjelica Henley, who worked the original investigation, is left in shock. Was it a natural death?! Henley never thought she'd have to even think about the horrific case but now with new victims showing up she's back on the case! This was a great read! Great suspense, action, intrigue, mystery, murder, serial killers, and plenty more! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

DI Anjelica Henley and her team at the Serial Crimes Unit are instructed to return to a decades old case after the suspicious death of an imprisoned serial killer. By returning to this case, the team are forced to open old wounds, quite possibly unearthing corruption by one of their own; a former boss and mentor. This suspenseful novel is truly a page turner and is for fans of Robert Bryndza and M.J. Arlidge

Nadine Matheson is becoming one of my favorite authors! I could not put this down. The Kill List reads like an episode of Cold Case, Criminal Minds, & Law & Order SVU. The book is smart, fast paced, lots of dodgy characters and of course how female protagonist, Inspector Henley. Inspector Henley gets contacted by a convicted murdered who killed 5 people back in the mid 1990s and he is adamant he is innocent. He connects with Henley and leads her and her team into investigating not only those murders but the potential corruption of one of their own. This was definitely dark and sinister, but I did not get grossed out as much as The Jigsaw Man. Overall, this was a great book, I highly recommend this book for my thriller and crime thrillers gurlies! Thank you NetGalley, HQ, & Harpor Collins for this arc. I am so thankful to read this and support my newest favorite author.
