A book that probably won't travel to school libraries outside the US, but still a very decent little affair. It doesn't delve into all the policies and so on of the title character, but mentions some key events and situations, asks us if they're truth or myth, and then expands on them. So yes, he did lose sight in one eye when boxing in the White House basement, yes he did shock and/or disgust much of the US citizenry by inviting a coloured education specialist to the White House for a family dinner, but no, the image of him on a bull moose to plug a third party of the day was an early instance of photoshopping. Tending to the trivial, it knows that that is a way to hook some people into wanting to learn more, so this is a quiet little success.

What a wonderful book! I love all of the facts about Roosevelt! The format is wonderful in that it tells you whether it is a fact or a myth and then supports it with factual information. I really enjoyed the format of this book.

Eye-catching and colorful the book starts out by showing young folks that this man they've heard about in school was a real person who had a serious chronic illness when he was a child. Many myths/facts are briefly explored and explained (like how he dealt with race relations and got threatened for it). It even deals a bit with misinformation and altered photos. A hundred years ago! And, yes, he really was shot by a crazed man in my hometown and did finish his speech before going to hospital. There is also a timeline, glossary, index, and where to find more information.
This is one in a nonfiction series.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Rosen Publishing Group | PowerKids Press via NetGalley. Thank you!

I've always been fascinated by the seemingly larger-than-life Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. As such, while I didn't expect to learn much new in this children's book, I jumped at the chance to read this short, to-the-point book dealing with some of the common facts and myths that surround him. While aimed at children, I'd say upper-elementary/middle school, it would be a quick, fun read for anyone curious, even us so-called adults. It's short, yes, but does offer up some interesting details about the man's life.

No, not going to list them. I'll just say that for such a short take on his life, one of which volumes have been written, it managed to work in some solid basics. Not only does it mention his adventures and attitude toward football, but it works in info about his environmental support, that he was, given the time, quite progressive in thought and action, and his White House meetings with blacks. And, oh, seems that the modern age of AI has nothing on ol' time photographers as there's even a doctored campaign photo of him astride a moose during his Bull Moose Party days. Yes, photo credits are given.

This would be a great addition to a school or teacher's library. Organization wise, it presents the myth/fact on one page with more on that point on the following page. In addition, there is an abbreviated timeline of his life as well as a glossary, additional print and online source list for more info, and index. Thanks #NetGalley and #RosenPublishingGroup - #PowerKidsPress for allowing me to indulge the ol' history major still in me. Amazing what were actually facts.

The layout on Kindle was not great, but the information was! I love presidental history and this is a fun way to share that information to a younger audience that I will absolutely be gifting to the kids in my life.
