Loved this book! I keep finding that I’ve been thinking about it off and on throughout the week. It’s one that will stick with me for a very long time. It’s thought provoking and sweet.

This was my second book by Courtney Walsh and I absolutely loved it! The characters and the settings were all so lovable. Even Georgina who could be prickly at times. What a sweet and fun story where I felt like I was right there with them. It’s even inspired me to try and say yes to more things this year. This was a cute, clean, fun read with some romance sprinkled in. I truly can’t recommend Courtney’s books enough! Thanks to NetGalley, Courtney Walsh, and Thomas Nelson Fiction for providing me with this ARC. It was a joy and delight to spend time with Kelsey, Georgina, Hayden, and Dylan!

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for providing me the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this novel. All the thoughts and the opinions expressed are my own.

Kelsey was hit by a car. Literally! When she awakens, she meets her roommate and is surprised by who it is. Georgina is in the hospital again, and she is mad that she has to share a room. The two form a (sort of) friendship and begin a quirky summer of doing out of the ordinary things. It is an eye-opening journey for the both of them. Both women are taken out of their comfort zones.

This book is a heart warming look at what it takes to make changes in a life. It is a bit of a coming of age type story- maybe a coming into your own type story. It dealt with confronting your past and your mistakes and making changes that would give you a better future. It deals with this with humor and honesty. It isn’t what I would consider a Christian fiction book but it is definitely clean. I would have liked to have seen faith elements woven into it. I feel that some perfect faith content opportunities were missed.

I would recommend this book to people looking for clean women’s fiction that has a touch of romance. I would not recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a book that is Christian fiction.

I was really hoping that this book was going to be a summer favorite, but it just couldn’t get there. I’ve enjoyed other books by this author but something was missing for me this time. The “road trip that helps you find meaning in your life” storyline has been done, and so has the “cranky old person teaches the young whippersnapper a thing or two about the true meaning of life” storyline. I wish I’d loved it, but sadly I had to force myself to finish it.

The characters were lovable and I loved the different POVs. The friendship between Georgina and Kelsey is so beautiful. There is also a sweet romance.

I highly recommend this book. It's perfect if you want an uplifting story.

3 stars!

I really enjoyed the message in this book and it is something that will stick with me for a very long time!

I enjoyed the characters - Kelsey, Hayden, Georgina and David. I appreciated that we got to see Georgina's softer side towards the ending. This book didn't pull me in right away, which is the reasoning for the three stars but overall I would definitely recommend this book to friends!

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the ARC!

I wouldn't say I like contemporary fiction or romance, but I have read two of Courtney Walshs' books previously, and they were both 5-star reads. I found The Summer of Yes somewhat problematic.
The story started well, with two women, both workaholics, struggling to connect to others in relationships outside their work. Work became their focus, and drive, and everything else was put out of the way. I loved the connection between Kelsey and Georgina, and their stories were written well. However, there was no depth in the storyline, which made the ending of the story lackluster. I thought that the love connection between Hayden and Kelsey rushed, almost an instant love story. Georgina had chosen a life of work and her business came first, so the grace offering from Hayden and Dylan was seriously unbelievable. The story ended well, but it was not believable. As a mother, I struggled with the offering from Hayden to Georgina which seemed too quick of a decision. Most mothers are selfless with their children, and I had a hard time believing that any mother would be fine with this decision. The Summer of Yes was labeled a clean, Christian fiction. While the story was clean, I found no faith aspects in the story whatsoever,
I will read from Courtney Walsh again, but sadly, The Summer of Yes did not work for me.

I really enjoyed The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh. I felt like it was a self-help book for myself about embracing life and saying yes to things that I normally wouldn't say to. Things that bring me fear or make me say "But what if..."

A quote that stuck with me was "I've dared to hope for things I want, rejecting the worst-case scenario-- that dreaded voice of doom that accompanies every exciting thing. I haven't mastered it, but I'm learning ." I am a wort-case scenario person and I feel like I related so much to this book.

Things I liked about this book:
- The main characters connection and how their lives intertwined and they helped each other in different ways.

- The concept of saying yes to things you normally wouldn't and flipping the script on the what-if's. Instead of "what if ____ happens" it's now "What if it's amazing? What if it's fun and exciting and inspiring?" Being a what-if worst case scenario person I loved the flip and putting a positive spin on the "what if..." question.

- The various relationships between the characters.

- The dual POV between Kelsey and Georgina. They were so different and it was important to understand both and here from each of them.

This is my 3rd book by Courtney Walsh and they are just clean, feel good books that make me smile.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Courtney Walsh does it again! Such a heartwarming story of friendship. Georgina and Kelsey on their journey's and I was here for it. These two women found themselves in the same hospital room and find themselves on a journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and friendship. It was beautifully written and hits on topics that make you think.

The Summer or Yes

This book held my expectations and sprinkled in so much more.
Developing a sweet and sassy story between two women looking to life’s next steps, Courtney Walsh writes a great summer read for people who are looking for something to warm your soul.
I had a great time with this read, and I quickly recommended it to women in my family who love a feel-good book for relaxing days in the sun.
Both main characters go through a self discovering journey, with the help of the other, involuntarily or not! 🤭 Sometimes you need a stranger to show you what life is truly about.

The Summer of Yes comes out July 2,2024

Thank you netgalley and Courtney Walsh for the opportunity. All opinions are my own.

4.5 stars rounded up

32 year old assistant editor Kelsey Worthington wakes up in the hospital after being hit by a car while she was walking on the sidewalk. She ends up with strong willed opinionated and grumpy Georgina Tate as a roommate, an older, rich, successful business woman whose first task is to ask Kelsey to sign a NDA so that no one knows that she is in the hospital. When Kelsey realizes how lonely this very successful woman is, she starts to question her own life decisions, and decides to start saying yes to the simple pleasures of life, and takes Georgina along for the ride, kicking and screaming along the way.

I loved the banter and developing relationship between Kelsey and Georgina, and the two men in our story are too good to be true, yet characters I really liked as well. The novel is full of reminders to say yes to the things that give you joy, especially to the people you love. It made me think it would make a good pairing with the non fiction Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes. The only thing keeping me from rating it a full five stars for me was the middle, when I felt Georginas grumpiness , resistance to change and inability to communicate lasted way too long.

There is some gentle romance in this novel, but it is more contemporary fiction than romance, with the relationship between the two women the primary focus of the book.

"Being human feels good, even though it simultaneously feels bad. Because it feels necessary. Because a part of me wants to carve my name in a giant, sturdy oak tree as if to say: Georgina was here."

It's a YES to The Summer of Yes.

It's easy to fall in love with Kelsey's anxious optimism and Georgina's cynicism. The road trip narrative feels fresh and fun, and it's joyous to read about both women finding romance and finding joy in a world that denies it to them. Second chances abound, and it will have you wanting to say yes to more of the little things in life, like pretzels and time with friends. The clear message is: no matter what age you are, you deserve to be happy. And don't we all need more of that message in the world?

Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Courtney Walsh continues to amaze me with her stories, how relatable her characters are, and how much I thoroughly enjoy reading her books. The Happy LIfe of Isadora Bentley was my top read of 2023--I saw a lot of myself in Isadora Bentley and I loved seeing her transform into a whole, healthy person and leave her baggage and trauma in the past where it belongs. There is some of that same dynamic in this book with the main character Kelsey.

The way the story opened (I don't want to spoil it) was absolutely genius in my opinion, and it heightened my interest in the story right from the first page. It sets the stage perfectly for Kelsey's character arc and the way her own self-reflection sparks changes for other characters as well. It was enjoyable, satisfying and uplifting to say the least. I hope everyone goes out and buys this book. It could very well change your life, too.

How is this only my second book by Courtney Walsh?? The Summer of Yes is a sweet, heartwarming book about love, forgiveness, and living life to the fullest. It reminds us to step out of our comfort zone by just saying yes sometimes and that doing so can lead to some amazing first AND second chances.

I loved the unexpected friendship that Kelsey and Georgina built and enjoyed the dual POV and fun banter throughout the book. And how about those men? you gotta love love!!!

A great summer read!

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the eARC of this book.

Courtney Walsh is one of my favorite authors for books that feel real and authentic. She writes with a voice that makes you think about your own life, your own insecurities and also hope that maybe you will find a flicker of inspiration to do better with this life.
The Summer of Yes was just full of so much heart and also the funny inside jokes that break up a serious moment and makes you laugh.
I just adored Georgiana and her snark. She's who I want to be when I grow up (minus the kidney disease and estrangement from her family)! Kelsey is that bright spot in Georgiana's life that she finds annoying and yet cannot resist the pull into her wild ideas.

There is a neat little bow put on this story but the meat and potatoes will stay with me because this story does make you think.... what if?
Thanks for my Advance Copy! I loved it!

4 stars.

A fun book centered around life’s priorities and what truly matters. After a car accident, Kelsey finds herself recovering in the hospital with a cranky older woman, who also happens to be the ceo and founder of a multimillion dollar beauty company. As an unlikely pairing, the two set off for a summer of “yes!” Where will the summer take them?

Tropes: grumpy/sunshine, second chance love, forced proximity,

Content warning: car accident, marriage separation (past), terminal sickness diagnosis.

“People don’t leave quickly, but they do leave suddenly.”

😳 I can’t get this out of my head!

I loved this book! There were a few times I wondered how a situation could end any way but badly, but Courtney pulled it out at the end. Fun premise. Who hasn’t looked forward and wondered how much of our true selves would be left if we kept moving down the same path? I know I have! Well written and I laughed out loud several times and highlighted a whole bunch!!
