This book is a really informative, but clear and concise, look at keeping and caring for ducks.

I loved the colour pictures and extra tips that were included. I also liked the layout, and how it was divided into different sections.

As a duck owner, I found the information accurate and helpful.

This book is perfect for anyone keen on knowing more about ducks, looking into getting ducks, or those that already own ducks.

Excellent introduction to owning Ducks! Thank you NetGalley and Cool Springs Press for early access to this digital ARC.

I am in year 5 of having a small flock of chickens. We have considered what having ducks would be like and ultimately I want to have them someday soon! This title was very helpful in setting the foundation for what to expect when owning ducks. The expansive list of breeds was helpful too, because of our location geographically and our lifestyle some breeds are better suited for us. I appreciate the colorful photos and easy to consume information. I feel like the author did a good job covering a wide verity of topics to consider before introducing farm animals in to your home/ life. Overall this title was well done compared to other guides I’ve purchased in the past. Appropriate for anyone including teens interested in duck rearing. Recommend!

I hope I will be forgiven for this but when I got to the Male-to-Female Ratio page and read how horrible male ducks are (drakes) during mating season I stopped reading.

I wish I could give a complete review. I do believe this is a very well-done book on raising ducks. The format is fantastic nad the writing but I'm so turned off my male ducks I am not reading about ducks anymore.

This is a great guide full of useful information for those who wish to care for ducks. The pictures are great. The layout is simple and organized. There is an index in the back. The information listed is not overwhelming and written in a way the reader can easily take in. I'd be happy to see this on a library bookshelf.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

My boss currently has chickens, and I was wondering what it would be like to have a henhouse in my yard. And then I saw this book and thought, what about ducks? Well, within the first few pages, I made my decision which, in this case, was that raising ducks (or chickens for that matter) is not for me.

This is an excellent book in my view for anyone who is embarking on duck ownership or who wants a quick reference as a duck keeper. I'm not sure that I would be as inclined to pick this up if I had as much experience as Ellis does, but for someone who has perhaps raised other fowl or who is interested in having some fresh eggs, I thin this is a great read to introduce them to all the nuances of raising ducks and having to care for them properly.

Given that I am no duck expert, there may be a few items in the book that folks would argue or disagree with, but overall, I found it really gave a good overview of everything from picking a breed to health problems. I particularly enjoyed the personal stories about Ellis's own ducks even when those stories were a little sad like the one about Oreo. I was also disabused of my believe that ducks pair up for life when she started talking about the need to have more females than males or breeding becomes pretty brutal. And that was also news to me as I have never done a lot of research into the mating rituals of ducks. Yikes!

If you are considering raising ducks, this is a really good book to get you started and to really use as a reference for many years to come. And I also think this is a great book for someone who, like me, may decide against raising ducks because of the work involved. Better to know before than to risk being one of those people seeking to rehome ducklings.
