The Day Moon and Earth Had an Argument by David Duff. The book is very informative and interesting about the moon, the earth and the other planets. I will enjoy reading this book to my granddaughter. Children love books about the moon and earth. I also think the illustrations are fantastic.
What an excellent book! My kids loved the illustrations and were laughing out loud as moon went on a quest to find a new home.

A whimsical introduction to the solar system presenting each planet (and Pluto, and the Sun) in this fun adventure where our Moon tries to find a new home after arguing with Earth. They are both stubborn and the Moon leaves only to miss Earth and Home. It is a fun book to talk about space but also to talk about arguing with friends and family, valuing what is lost (friendship or home), and knowing to apologize.
The illustrations are very sweet.
Has at the end a few educational pages. I didn't know the formation about Moon, Earth, and the solar system of the moon. Learned something today.
Thank you, publisher and netgalley, for this e-arc.
I read this with my kindergartner, who helped me write this review.
My 5 year old is all about science and space so this book was right up his alley. His favorite part of the story was when Moon met Pluto because Pluto isn't a planet anymore so he did not think it would be included in the story.
My kindergartner is left with one question, what was the argument about?
(I do not think this is necessary for the story to flow)
This book was different and interesting. My child likes reading about the moon and space and enjoyed this book with me
The Day Moon and Earth Had an Argument is a cute book about relationships and emotions that is easy for young children to understand. The illustrations are colorful, and the information about the Earth and Moon is really informative for children learning about space. Overall, I liked the book and think it will be great for a space-themed storytime or lesson.
The Day the Moon and Earth Had an Argument is a cute book that shares some planetary facts an interesting and accessible way for little ones. The illustrations were fun and child appropriate, and the story seems like one that could resonate with kids, though I’m not sure the premise of an unexplained argument that leads to Moon decided to leave Earth is the most compelling. Alas. Appreciated the opportunity to review this ARC - thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley!
This is a really cute book about the moon and the sun and is perfect to use in the classroom or read your kids! The book is also very educational and kids can learn a lot about all the different planets in the solar system through the moons adventure.
Wow! As an Early Childhood Educator I am always looking for new literature to help me bring themes to life! This book was a fun way to learn facts about planets and the moon! I loved the colorful and playful illustrations!
My class recently finished our space theme and I would have loved to have read this to them! I think this would have been a favorite!
The premise was a cute way to introduce the concept of the Earth and Moon drifting apart, which is alarming to consider in isolation! Definitely reassuring to find out that it’ll take millenia yet! Learning about why the moon might not be suited to orbit any other planet in the solar system was interesting, and a great way to highlight that even when we have disagreements with loved ones, they may still be our best experience of feeling at home and we can make amends and reconnect, if we choose. It was fun to imagine what each planet might feel or think about where and what they are.
I appreciated the irreverent illustrations, which still conveyed a lot of astronomical information about the celestial bodies in our galaxy. Loved the facts listed at the end for those whose interest will definitely be piqued by this story. Will definitely be sharing with the kiddos in my life.
Thank you Netgalley for this digital ARC.
This was an odd story. Moon goes off and explores the galaxy, but ends up going back home. Quirky art style and story.
Things that really work: the art, the conflict resolution. Things that don't: the Earth and the Moon seem like they are having a very grown up fight for a kids book. There is a tonal mismatch between text and art. But that might just be me reading it as an adult. The art though, that's fantastic. Adorable and approachable.
Having facts listed at the back of the book was a good idea. The personification of the planets, sun, and moons made the story engaging, as did the Moon's travels through the solar system.
There are a few reasons why I would not adopt or recommend this book.
The moon's color. Why is it yellow?
I understand the Earth and Moon having an argument, but in the end, the Moon says to Earth, " No one likes you." I think a more positive message is needed. It was a missed opportunity to highlight the mutual benefits and interdependence between the Earth and the Moon.
My first-grade students loved learning about space. They liked that although it had a ton of facts it was told in a funny story form which was novel. They love reading about science so this was a high-interest topic. The illustrations were very beautiful and unique.
Some things they didn't love: the moon being very yellow (they confused it at first with the sun) and aliens in the solar system because that wasn't very realistic. The Earth was missing an atmosphere (clouds).
Thanks to netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great book! Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for granting me access to this ebook.
It was a cute story and packed full of interesting information about the various planets in our solar system. The illustrations were colorful and went well with the text. This would be a great book to read to students who are learning about the solar system!
I found this interesting and so cute! It talks about the planets and gives them emotions and human characteristics to help you connect with them. The pictures are so cute, I love all of the planets. This is definitely a book you should check out to read to your children, especially if they show interest in space and the galaxy, it’s full of facts that they can learn and feel so smart telling other people about.
Thanks Netgalley!
My son loves the solar system and this book was perfect for him. I thought this book was so cute and informative. It taught a valuable lesson and also taught about the solar system. My son and I loved this book.
What a cute book! And very appropriate after this week’s solar eclipses, while my kiddo is still interested in the moon and solar system. Not only is this book fun and colorful but also provides a lot of information. My kiddo really enjoyed it!
This was a super cute and informative book! I loved the illustrations throughout and appreciated that it was educational while still telling a story. The spreads at the end were particularly interesting - I actually learned a few things as an adult that I didn't know. This would be a great book for kids.
Thanks to NetGalley for this advanced digital copy. The Day Moon and Earth Had an Argument will release September 10th, 2024.
This book is great for children who are wanting to learn more about space but in a fun/subtle way. We are a homeschool family and just finished our unit about the planets so it was great timing to read it to my kids. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has children that are interested in space.
