Tiffany Haddish's first book was an award winner, and this, her latest, is destined for the same. Funny, poignant, and oh so real, I Curse You With Joy is Haddish at her best. I highly recommend listening to the audio version of the book as Haddish herself performs it in her distinctive and singular way.

I'd like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I previously read Tiffany's first book so I was interested in reading this one. I enjoyed this as an audio version which is read by the author, she is brutally honest and will make you laugh out loud.

I feel like if you don't like Tiffany Haddish, then there must be something wrong with you. This collection of essays will have you laughing, crying and empathizing with the comedy superstar. Just like in The Last Black Unicorn, you are being served REALNESS. I love her take on life in general and despite the many setbacks she has endured, she still shines and has the most positive outlook. And the best part is, Haddish herself reads the audio. :)

*Special thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio e-arc.*

It's an entertaining audiobook; the narration is well done (as expected.)
The first 30 minutes of the book is just an advertisement for her last book, which gets old pretty quickly. I am about halfway through the book, and I don't know yet if it's going to be worth my while finishing it.

All the stars for Ms. Haddish!
I loved The Last Black Unicorn so much so I had incredibly high hopes for I Curse You with Joy. I was not disappointed.

I Curse You with Joy blends stories of some of Tiffany’s tough life experiences and serious subject matter with her recognizable humor and never-ending positivity. Where post people would give up or at the very least say “well that’s not good”, Tiffany perseveres and sees the silver lining in any situation. Each stories is funnier and more audacious than the next. Then she hits you right in the feels with stories that break your heart and put it back together.

It’s 100% worth investing in the audio for I Curse You with Joy. Not only is it narrated by Tiffany with her recognizable cadence and tone, but it also includes some outtakes at the end that had me giggling.

I will be telling everyone about this book and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Tiffany!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Tiffany Haddish for an early review copy. These are my honest thoughts.

Tiffany Haddish is undeniably bursting with life. I’m happy that I chose to take in this book via audio. She does her own narration, and there’s truly no one else that could’ve done it justice.
Some of these stories had me in tears of compassion and joy. She is 0% afraid of her sharing her past, and the rawness of recollections from her childhood and former relationships will hurt your heart. She’s also not shy about sharing some fairly raunchy stories, so be warned that this isn’t a book to be listened to at work without earphones. Your coworkers will definitely wonder why you’re snorting. Some went a bit far for me, but not to the point of offense. I respect her willingness to be so transparent, and I’ll cheer for her success forever.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for allowing access to an early audio copy in response to my request.

I absolutely love listening to Tiffany Haddish narrate her own books! She is so fun to listen to, and the experience just feels like your hanging out with your best friend.

This book went way deeper than her first "The Last Black Unicorn," and I was here for it! We had some raunchy stories that people love, but we also had some truly deep emotion, and I won't hesitate to admit I teared up a couple of times reading this.

Tiffany Haddish is one of the most real celebrities in our world today, and I'm so happy she keeps sharing her story with us! There is empowerment, conflict, laughs, emotions, and best of all joy in this book, for anyone who reads it!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying me with an ARC for my honest review.

Another hilarious book from Tiffany Haddish! Tiffany has such a positive outlook on life despite having such a hard childhood. She is such a ray of light in this world. She is hilarious and there were times when I was listening to this book that I could not stop laughing. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh or a positive spin on life. If you can listen to the book, do so. It will add so much more having Tiffany read it to you. I hope that she gets nominated for a Grammy again for this audiobook!

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced listening copy of this book.

This was an okay book. It had fun parts and serious parts. It just wasn't my cup of tea. But if you are a fan of Tiffany Haddish, chances are you will really enjoy this book!
The audio was really well made and easy to listen too.

I really needed a boost today and along came Ms Haddish to curse me with some of her infectious joy and resilience.
This audiobook was everything I wanted it to be and so much more. I feel like I’ve just been through a pep talk, a sex-ed class, a stand-up routine and too many life lessons to count.

“What I was learning was, in its own fucked up way, no feelings was as bad as too many.”

“Representation isn’t just checking off boxes, it’s validating experience.”

“Going through all that, taught me that you get to choose your response when you are afraid. You might not be able to control everything that happens to you but you do get to control how you respond to it.“

I came in hoping for some of the relatable, tell-it-like-it-is, comic relief that Tiffany is known for and came away with all that, plus a heavy dose of inspiration from her words of wisdom, life experience and unique perspective.

PLEASE get the audiobook 🙏🏻 hearing Tiffany’s words straight from her is the way to go. I’m not surprised she was nominated for a Grammy on her last audiobook if this performance was anything to go by. I will be going back to listen to The Last Black Unicorn ASAP. If the audiobook wasn’t already worth it for her incredible narration, it’s worth it for her comedic timing, sound effects and bloopers.

Thank you Dreamscape Media and Tiffany Haddish for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

5 stars

I love Tiffany Haddish, and prospective readers who share this incoming sentiment will also find themselves completely engaged and hanging on every word. Those who are less familiar with Haddish may want to do a little investigating first. She's not going to G-rate or hold back for delicate sensibilities.

This is a compelling essay collection that like all of what Haddish produces somehow manages to include deeply personal and difficult content that is presented in often hilarious and always innovative ways. Haddish covers aspects of her family life and upbringing, her career, and even her health and garden, and it's all so gripping that I listened to it in almost one straight shot. Any breaks I did take were filled with looking forward to getting back to the listen.

The audiobook - as expected - is fantastic. It's no surprise Haddish was nominated for a Grammy for narrating her last book, and I won't be surprised if a repeat performance is on the horizon. Hearing about her life in her voice and with her emphases and inflections adds so much to the experience. I can't recommend the audio enough when and where available.

I thoroughly enjoyed this listen and expect to see it on a lot of "best of" lists this year. That placement will be well deserved.
