Love and lists

I loved, loved Joanna and Menno’s heartwarming and sweet Amish romance with a side of life course correction. This one had me feeling all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, and faith. Menno is a widowed Amish single dad with two young daughters. Now that he’s been a widow for a year, he’s trying to follow the bishop’s directions and find a wife in a month. He travels with a to do list to Byler to stay with his cousin Levi and his wife Ester. Joanna is one of four sisters and at 28 she accepts that she’s an old maid and is content with her life. She is good friends with Ester and when she and the rest of the quilting circle hear of Menno’s plan, they agree to help Ester with her added chores due to his visit. Joanna thinks Menno is ridiculous to plan to pick a wife like a can of corn but she is willing to help Ester by watching his daughters. Menno is convinced that God put Joanna in his path the moment he gets to town and feels like checking off his list will be easy. Thus begins their beautiful journey of love, faith, mistakes, and second chances. The story was well written and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline. It was a beautifully crafted story of choices, grace, forgiveness, and love all within the beautiful backdrop of the Amish community’s faith and lifestyle. I love the small loving Amish community of Byler and their quirky and wise English friend Cathy.

The Amish Quiltmakers Uninvited Guest by Jennifer Beckstrand
Book 5 of 5: The Amish Quiltmaker
The beloved bestselling inspirational romance author continues her uplifting Amish Quiltmakers series set in Colorado. Will appeal to readers of Amish and inspirational romance and fans of Charlotte Hubbard, Amy Lillard, and Emma Miller.
Esther’s distant cousin, widower Menno Eicher, needs to be hard-headed and practical. Swamped by family and farm responsibilities, he must find the perfect wife as quickly as possible, so he’s shown up in Colorado—with “finding a wife” on his To-Do list! Esther’s community has many women who could match his ever-growing requirements. Yet after a chance meeting, Menno keeps coming back to baker Joanna Yoder. Hard-working, honest, and forthright, she’s distracting Menno from his search, opening his heart—but refuses to believe he’s falling hopelessly in love with her . . .
Happily busy inventing and selling delicious desserts, Joanna has no time for someone as ridiculously exacting as Menno. After all, what sort of man thinks choosing a wife is like picking a pie at the general store? But once she sees the surprisingly kind heart, doting father, and understanding man beneath his hard-to-please ways, she has second thoughts. With faith and genuine love, might the few things they have in common overcome the differences between them—and prove precious enough to risk a future together?
This is Menno Eicher and his two young children's story.
This is Joanna Yoder's story.
“It’s Levi’s cousin Menno.”
We got a letter from him this morning. His wife died exactly a year ago tomorrow, and he’ll be here tomorrow with his two little girls for an ‘extended visit.’
He wants Levi to find him a job and a wife and give him a bed and three meals a day.”
Mary’s eyes widened. “He wants Levi to find him a wife?”
Joanna Yoder climbed out of the van followed by her three sisters, Mary, Ada, and Beth. Joanna wrapped both hands around the handle of the bag that carried her half-finished quilt squares. She looked up at the sky, breathed in slowly, and savored the smell of warm spring air and freshly cut grass. A lilac bush in full bloom grew on one side of Esther Kiem’s porch. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
“Do you smell the lilacs?” said her schwester Mary as she shut the van door behind her.
I recommend this book.

Book 5 in the Amish Quiltmaker’s Series, this could be a standalone but do read books 1-4. They are so good and will keep you laughing.

Menno needs a wife, as all Amish single father’s do. Recently widowed, he’s so very obedient to the bishop. Maybe too obedient? I laughed at his to-do list and the way Joanna reacted. I mean, who wants to be a check mark on a to-do list? Especially when you don’t think you even want to be married. And no woman wants to be a can of corn. (Read it to find out!)

This story was delightful, lighthearted, comedic, poignant, and had all the feels. I highly recommend it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

A man comes from a small Amish community to see if he can find a wife and mother for his two little girls, and he has given himself a month to find a new wife. Wow, a girl should be really flattered to have a man, no real relationship, want to marry her. Well, I know for a fact that this does happen!

We journey with Menno and Joanna, will they ever see what is in front of them? Will one of the forward girls win his heart?

Will Menno stop putting his foot in his mouth?

I love the sweet father with his daughters, and how the community rally around this young family, and seem to want to help his bishop and have him remarry!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zebra, and was not required to give a positive review.

There is something incredibly soothing about reading a Jennifer Beckstrand Amish romance. Her books are uplifting in a way few things are these days. You can’t help but feel good while reading them and at the same time getting your romance loving fix. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗧𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗥’𝗦 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧 is the fifth book of the series and was just as special as the other four. Menno was a delightful surprise. At first I was put off by him but then as his true character emerged I found myself to be his biggest fan. Joanna was just as interesting as I remembered her. I wanted so badly for her to let herself go and fight for the love she deserved (which she did). Add in Rosie, Lily, Pepper and the adorable goats and this love story was complete. I look forward to whatever comes next and am giving this book and the entire 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 series the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy.

P.S. Each book can be read on its own but in my humble opinion, every single book deserves to be read and enjoyed.

The Amish Quiltmakers uninvited Guest

Menno comes to town to find a wife. He meets Joanna on his first day in town. He makes a list of who to date and other things. Joanna does not like his list. The story is funny in parts and very touching in other parts. I really enjoyed the book. At times I feel bad for Menno and other times I felt bad for Joanna. I loved his girls, Menno was a great father. I loved all the characters, I got engrossed in the story from the first word.

I received an advanced copy of the book from NetGalley. This book review is my own opinion.

Such a cute story that made me laugh out loud throughout this sweet novel.
This is Joanna's story and it's a good one. I hate to say it, but I think it's better than Mary's story was.
Menno reminds me of a bull in in a China shop not stopping to think about how it would affect others in his path.
He's the who made me really laugh and want to shake him at the same time.
Joanna is a sweetheart and I found myself snickering at her too.
The goats were my favorite characters however. There were times when I wanted to reach through the pages to pet them myself and their names are so sweet! Now that's what I call imagination!
I love Beckstrand's novels because each one has its own certain charm to it that makes me look forward to whatever she writes next! I am sure looking forward to Ada's story. I'd love to see her wind up with someone. She's special too and a very hard worker. I love how she cares for her sisters.
I enjoyed this book very much! It was hard to put down to go to sleep at night because that's when I love to read!
I had to hand it to Sadie though. In fact, I really loved her for what she did. Some things you just can't say in a letter! Better told face to face.
I will be adding this wonderful book to my favorite bookshelf.
5 stars for an excellent read. One I couldn't put down until Joanna and Menno had told their stories. Very well written.
I highly recommend it

The Amish Quiltmaker's Uninvited Guest by Jennifer Beckstrand.
Menno and his two daughter's come for an extended visit for Levi to help him find a wife. Levi gives that task to his wife Esther. Esther gets help from her friends to put the eligible girls on the list. Joanna does not want to be on the! She feels like Menno doesn't want someone special, just anyone will do, like a can of corn. Joanna does not want to be a can of corn. Menno is nice and handsome and his daughters are sweet but Menno has met his match in Joanna. Menno keeps making many mistakes instead of trusting God to guide him. Can Joanna be more than just a can of corn to Menno? Will Menno dating all the single women in town allow him to show Joanna that she is special?
I was given this copy to read and leave my honest review.
I loved it! Jennifer Beckstrand always keeps you laughing.
