For fans of The Wife Upstairs and Gone Girl comes a new psychological thriller by Ruhi Choudhary.
What a mother wouldn’t do for her child, she just might even kill for them. Anna has fallen in love with Cary and his daughter Harper. And now life is starting to look up for Anna who has struggled with money and past rejections. It just all seems too good to be true.
Cary’s wife went missing a year ago and Anna is not quite sure if she can live up to how perfect Presley was. When they decided to move to Presley’s family home Anna starts to realize maybe Cary isn’t who she thought he was. There is a room with a red door that is “off-limits” to Anna as enforced by Presley’s mother. But Anna cannot contain her curiosity any longer and decides to break into the room. Only to find a hidden diary that belonged to Presley. How can Anna look at Cary the same after reading it? Did he have something to do with Presley’s disappearance?

I got the feeling that this was going to be a remake of Gone Girl and was pleasantly surprised with the epic twist at the end. I literally said “What?’ and had to rewind the audio book to make sure I heard it correctly. I will now be devouring all of Choudhary’s books. I also enjoyed the “Watcher” aspect of the book and loved the different viewpoints that added to a grand finale.

*Thank you to Ruhi Choudhary, Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the audio copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.

To begin with this was a slow burn. It really felt dragged out and could have been a lot shorter. It was an ok storyline if a little unbelievable and with many a red flag. The characters weren’t overly likeable and I really found Anna to be irritating and her inner thoughts and actions just became tedious. The pace picked up about 3/4’s of the way in with some surprising twists that definitely caught my attention. It was an ok and the outcome definitely saved it.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to listen to and review #HisLastWife

This audio book was so engrossing as a listener, I would drive around the block a few extra times rather than go home. I was hooked.
While it started out somewhat unbelievable in what you think is naivety and desperation by a young girl, becomes more than the reader ever expected. This psychological thriller has it all.
Neighbors with secrets, the return of a missing wife after 18 months, a locked room kept as it was when she left, physical abuse, murder, it's all here. One of the characters called herself "the watcher"........I missed that mark over and over. My idea of who it really was changed as the story progressed and I never did get it right.
Jam packed with so many twists you just cannot believe anything else could happen, when the author takes another turn....again, you didn't see it coming!!!!

Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Ruhi Choudhary for the audio Arc of His Last Wife
Narrated by Penelope Rawlins, Kelly Burke

This was the first book Ive picked up of Ruhi Choudhary and really enjoyed it. It's a great paced psychological thriller which tackles a lot of issues that surrounds cohesive control, abuse and this is entwined into a great storyline. The characters are well fleshed out and felt real/believable.

Will be looking forward to seeing more from Ruhi

I listened to the audiobook version of this story. At first I found the narrator difficult to gel with, but I soon got past that and was hooked.
Lots of twists and turns, lots going on and lots of different themes - domestic abuse, violence, arson, craziness & a lot of controlling and coercive behaviour.
It all mixed together in a posh suburban street, a bit like a darker version of Desperate housewives!!
I didn't see the twists at the end coming, and I certainly didn't guess the ending.
Definitely a recommended read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

Wow. This was not what I was expecting.

I think the title is slightly misleading, there is a lot more going on in this book- but I think that is not a bad thing in the case of this book.

Throughout the first half of this book, I was expecting the same old same old, but I can guarantee you that whatever you think is going to happen in this book, won't.

I didn't give this 5 stars because I feel like the end could have given a little more after "it all". It seemed to me that there were some loose ends and some people that I would have really liked to know where their story went. However, with all that being said, I am not disappointed and would definitely recommend this for those who like good twists and like to be surprised.

If you liked Gone Girl, you should definitely read His Last Wife. It has twists and turns you never see coming. I thought the pace was slow at times otherwise, you will be guessing until the end of the story. Nothing is as it seems.

I thought the narrators sounded robotic at times and by the end wished I had read the story instead of listened to the audiobook.

An almost perfect 4 stars, 'His Last Wife' went in a lot of directions, but I liked it! Even though there were a lot of subplots that in the end did come together, the book never felt convoluted.

Written in first person, apart from Anna, we also read from someone else’s point of view (not divulging anything more because spoilers!) But let’s just say that I honestly didn’t predict anything but a small detail about the identity (or non-identity?) of the other chapter’s POV. Brilliant!

Obsession with motherhood takes the spotlight in His Last Wife. Even as a childfree person, I delighted in seeing this emotionalism throughout the book. The feelings of desperation and love for a child were so true, and the author did a great job at making the reader feel what Anna was feeling at all times.

The only qualm I have with the book is that the character I was rooting for didn’t get their happy ending, so, less stars because of that.
Do note that there are depictions of spousal abuse and a kind of gritty/shocking element in a plot twist, so be prepared.

Firstly this was such good narration by Penelope Rawlins and Kelly Burke, this is a high quality audiobook.
It's a psychological thriller, with lots of twists along the way. It centres around Anna, who begins a relationship with Cary, whose wife Presley disappeared a year ago and is presumed dead and Cary is now bringing up their baby daughter Harper with help from Presley's mother.
Anna quickly falls for Cary and beautiful Harper, taking on the roll of wife and mother and finds herself in a new neighbourhood and surrounded by a community into which she doesn't fit and goes on to find out that they are all holding onto their own lies and secrets, including Cary.
This was an easy, enjoyable listen and I loved the twists along the way. Definitely recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Ruhi Choudhary for the chance to listen to this in exchange for an honest review.

Very good psychological thriller. I could not guess the end. Missing wife comes back after her husband finds a new wife for his daughter.

Imagine meeting a single father, widowed under suspicious circumstances, and falling in love. Now you’re moving into his world- his expensive house, his high society friends, being mother to his daughter. Seems too good to be true, right?

His last wife is a story about a woman, Anna, who falls in love with a successful doctor, widow, & single dad, while managing a therapist office. After a few dates, she moves into his house away from the city and takes an active part in raising his 8 month old daughter. Shortly thereafter, Anna starts to question everything after finding his missing wife’s journal. How come her disappearance wasn’t solved? What really happened to her? Could he be responsible?

This story has twists that cannot be predicted from the information provided in the story. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy the constant distracting clues, but it was still an enjoyable listen. If you can read the story without trying to figure out the ending, you’ll love it! Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

I really wanted to enjoy this book more! I premise sounded interesting but I found it hard to keep my attention and felt the storytelling went very slow. The book then picks up about half way through and just as it started to grip me, I felt the end took me out of it again through the use of characters describing what happened to the reader through conversations or internal monologue. I feel there could have been a more interesting way for the end to ultimately come out. This book is usually my type of book, and going by the reviews, I feel it may be a me problem as it seems well rated! I’d be willing to read another book by the author to see if maybe this is a one off!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!

His Last Wife by Ruhi Choudhary is a gripping thriller with multiple twists and turns. It kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. Which character in the book can you trust? Anna, the newcomer to the neighborhood, who falls for Cary and his daughter Harper, but doesn’t feel as if she belongs? Or Cary, whose wife Presley disappeared from a blood filled room in their own house? What about Presley herself, the perfect charming wife who was there before? Or should Presley’s mother, who is overly involved in all their lives, be the one you believe? Don’t miss out on this unputdownable read! 5 stars from me, easily given. Enjoyed every minute listening to this one! Thank you to Bookouture Audio for the advance copy. This is my honest review.

As Anna is settling into her new life as Cary's partner, she becomes entangled in the complex dynamics of his neighbors, friends and family.
As Anna digs deeper into the circumstances surrounding Presley's disappearance and Cary's past, she uncovers shocking truths that threaten to unravel everything she thought she knew.

Anna is really loving her life with Cary’s daughter Harper who seems to adore her the most.
But as days progress Anna realizes she needs to find answers for so many missing pieces in the puzzle.
This compelling thriller kept me interested from start to finish. All the characters were so well-developed, the overall plot was super intricate plot.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio and Ruhi Choudhary for approving the audio ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This audiobook was made available to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book gave much more than I was expecting based on the summary, and I enjoyed following along trying to figure out who was who and who I should be rooting for. I liked the fact that you couldn't tell who was the "bad guy" and who wasn't. I did guess a couple of the twists but definitely not all of them! And I did listen to the whole thing in one sitting.

Unfortunately, I had to really suspend my disbelief, and I was questioning just how plausible numerous things were throughout reading, which kind of took me out of it a bit. There were multiple instances I thought "no that would never happen". The ending was pretty wild and I was still kind of rooting for Anna at the end, even though I felt that I shouldn't. But all the characters were pretty unlikeable and I think the author did a good job making them that way.
