DNFed at 15%.
At 15% I could tell the book was sex over content. The language was foul, including the way body parts were described. The narrator for the MMC sounded more like an advertisement than a normal person.
I liked the premise of the book- a bet that lasts 5 years- but at 15% between the casualness of cursing, derogatory way scenes were described, & just the general (yet terrible) sexual scenes- I couldn’t go any further.

Thank you to Flatiron Books and Macmillan Audio for the complimentary audiobook. These opinions are my own.

This book has such a great set-up. Molly and Seth were high school sweethearts. They run into each other at their 15 year reunion. She's rather cynical about love, even though she writes rom-coms for a living. And he's a true believer, even though he's a divorce attorney. They make a bet on whether 5 couples will make it to their 20th reunion. And he bets that the two of them will.

In some ways, this is a second chance romance that takes a look at how both characters need to grow and change to be ready for a relationship with each other. But in another way, it doesn't follow that script at all. Many of their interactions with each other are via text or email over time. But we also get insight into both character's perspectives.

I appreciated the longer storyline that fit the five years. And given those five years started in 2018, I was especially impressed by how well COVID-19 was incorporated. It felt realistic without in any way becoming a main part of the story.

I greatly enjoyed this and laughed a bunch while also getting emotional. And I owe some of that enjoyment to Christine Lakin and Tim Paige. Both did a great job narrating the ten and a half hour audiobook.

Molly and Seth.
Molly is a romcom screenwriter that doesn’t believe in true love. Seth is a divorce lawyer who can’t wait to find his soulmate and live happily ever after. The two dated in high school and are brought back together at their high school reunion. Will they have their second chance at love?

This was a fun debut!

I loved the standard role reversal ideas to love, second chance and relationship spanning over years concepts. However, this felt a little too stretched out and seemed to carry on longer than it should have. It did take me longer than anticipated to warm up to Molly. In the end, I was still rooting for the two.
I appreciated how much Seth understood and cared for Molly. Even though I had a hard time with Molly and her thought process, the character development was undeniable.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio!

A def Rom-Con! Cute, quick listen. Very believable. I loved how this was a rom com and the main character was so adamant she didn't believe in love, but worked on rom con movies. I liked chemistry between the two main characters and was so glad it ended the way it did.

A rom-com writer Molly Marks, who does not believe in love runs into her high school boyfriend at a reunion fifteen years after they break up. Seth is a divorce attorney, but unlike Molly, he believes in true love. He makes a bet with Molly, that whoever predicts the faith of five different couples correctly, wins the bet about true love. The only catch Is the last couple is them.

This was cute. I like it. It was a cute, summery read. Seth is a total golden retriever character. He wears his heart on his sleeve, he does have a vulnerability to him, and in the end, I thought he deserved so much better than Molly.

Molly was frustrated, her break up with Seth in high school was a poor excuse but we can chuck that up to young love mistakes. But Molly does not grow out of her mistakes, oh no, Molly loves to self-sabotage herself along the way and knows that she is doing it but somehow is powerful enough to stop her actions.

I did like the fact that she finally stood up to her father. That to me was the first true sign of character growth for Molly.

Overall, an enjoyable read and would be a great book to pick up for the summer. I enjoyed Katelyn's writing. I did like that it included some back-and-forth emails between the two characters as well.

I got a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I called it quits on "Just Some Stupid Love Story" after listening to the first 10% 4 or 5 times trying to get into it. It's a shame, because the summary sounded right up my alley.

Two high school sweethearts make a bet on the legitimacy of love and soulmates, and plan to see who wins the bet in five years. Interesting premise, and this hooked me in to the book from the beginning. The resolution to this debate is a little more complicated than you think.
I have mixed feelings about this book. While I think it was well-written, with very thought-out characters, I think that these two people should not be together. The female lead is the personification of avoidant attachment, and the male lead of anxious attachment. I know in reality a lot of people don't come to resolutions to these types of attachments into something healthier, but I would hope that two characters in a romantic comedy could. These issues don't really ever get resolved in the book, it's more like they get glazed over. And both characters are at the extremes of their attachment styles, which at points makes each of them very unlikable. But another part of me understands that this makes them all the much more well-written, they're human in their blunders and insufferable moments.
I'd definitely recommend this book to a friend, because I'd love someone else's perspective on most of the characters involved in the story.

I enjoyed this audiobook. As a Florida native it was nice to see a storyline that had a local Florida beach in it. The characters live in other states but came together for a high school reunion. These former high school sweethearts not only talk but have a wild night. But our main female MC is very guarded (daddy issues) and pushes away.
This book then follows their lives over the next 5 years until the next reunion. I love the other characters, I think the gay couple were my favorite! Them finding each other and confessing their love and then marriage was beautiful.
I’m glad I had the audiobook and loved the male narrator used. He matched the character so well to me.

I would be shocked if this book doesn't wind up on my top 10 of the year because I truly loved this book. I got the audio from Netgalley and it was like, from the moment I hit play, I was invested. This book is a bit unique in the way it's told, in that it covers five years of time from beginning to end and its only a little more than 300 pages. The way Doyle handles the time jumps kept the pacing really engaging, without compromising those slower moments where you really get to know the characters. And, given the plot of this book, getting to know these characters is vital to the success of the book.

Essentially, Molly and Seth dated in high school and they were very much in love. Molly broke up with him before they went off to college and it affected both of them pretty significantly. They are now back in their home town for their fifteen year high school reunion and during the reunion, they wind up making a bet about who knows more about love, him or her, by guessing the outcome of five couples for five years from now. Also important to note, Molly is a script writer for rom coms living in LA and Seth is a very successful divorce attorney in Chicago.

So essentially we follow both of them throughout five years and obviously (it's a romance novel) they do wind up interacting during those five years. They're also, though, working through some things on their own. If you aren't a big fan of personal journeys, of seeing characters with other people than the love interest during a romance, or of characters navigating some toxic family issues, this may not be for you. But for me, the way these characters grow on page was incredibly moving and I wound up really loving this book. Like, five stars, favorite of the year, loved this book. If you read it, please come share with me your feelings!!

"Just Some Stupid Love Story" is a fantastic debut novel that I thoroughly enjoyed! This grumpy/sunshine romance has a twist: our heroine, Molly, is the grump, and our hero, Seth, is the sunshine.

Molly and Seth's story began in high school, but she abruptly ended their relationship without any explanation. Fast forward to their high school reunion, and the spark between them is still undeniable. However, there's a catch—Molly lives in LA, while Seth is in Chicago. Molly struggles with commitment, while Seth commits too quickly, making them an intriguing pair.

I absolutely loved the back-and-forth dynamic and slow-burn romance. The dual point of view, which allows readers to hear the inner thoughts of both characters, adds depth to the story. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrators, Christine Lakin and Tim Paige were perfectly cast as Molly and Seth. This book is a must-read/listen! Perfect for a summer beach read!

Well this one was a journey!

I have been listening to Just Some Stupid Love Story for a bit and overall it's an entertaining read but the story was a bit too long for me.

I loved the second chance romance, reuniting at a high school reunion, and the bet Molly and Seth make but some of the story felt wayyyy too flushed out. I enjoyed Molly’s growth but at times found her really hard to connect to. I loved Seth’s character a lot and his journey to find someone to love and be loved.

I did really enjoy both narrators Christine Lakin and Tim Pagie a lot.

If you are looking for a breezy entertaining story with some angst, some spice, and a funny baby shower scene, I think you’ll like this one.

If you like Emily Henry books, I think you would enjoy this audiobook. It was a fun rom com. One believes in love and the other doesn’t. After a break up fifteen years later they see each other at their high school reunion.

Molly is reluctantly attending her 15 year high school reunion where she runs into her ex-boyfriend, Seth. She broke his heart, and she hasn't seen him since then. They reconnect and it leads them to make a bet about their friends' relationship status for their next reunion in five years. Part of the bet is on themselves, if they will be together at the 20 year reunion.

The story is told from dual POV of Molly and Seth. The narrators, Christine Lakin and Tim Paige, did an excellent job. Each narrator was engaging, and they made me want to keep listening to the story, even when I felt like parts of the book were dragging.

I had difficulty rooting for Molly and Seth. Molly kept repeating the same mistakes that she made over and over again. I feel like Seth would have taken Molly back no matter what she said or did to him.

Between the 15 and 20 year reunion, we get to see how Molly and Seth's lives are separate or intersect with each other. I didn't like how the ending felt very rushed while other parts of the story took forever to get through.

Overall, I liked the narrators and parts of the book, but the story didn't capture my attention and felt rushed in the end.

Thanks to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an ALC of this book.

I enjoy the story of a former high school couple that reconnect during their highschool reunion and rediscover their attachment to each other. The narrator was fabulous, the plot was good, the sexual chemistry was off the hook.

3.5 stars

I enjoyed this story, having already read the digital ARC. The female narrator was excellent. I didn’t care for the male narrator. He was too slick, like a game show announcer.

Nonetheless, i did enjoy this audio and am thankful for the opportunity to preview it. Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio.

Molly is a Hollywood rom-com writer with a cynical take on romance, influenced by her career and heartbreak. On the other hand, Seth is a divorce attorney in Chicago who remains a hopeless romantic despite his profession. Molly and Seth were high school sweethearts until Molly left to go to college and broke up with Seth. They run into each other at a reunion and make a deal to predict the fate of five couples, including themselves, over the next five years. Their story mixes humor and romantic tension.

The story delves into the nature of love by exploring the contrast between relationship skepticism and optimism. Molly and Seth's interactions are filled with witty banter and heartfelt moments. The book was lighthearted and a delight to read. It never had a slow moment and had a great flow. I was vested in the characters and outcome of the bet. The narration of the audiobook was prefect. The articulation was clear and a joy to listen to.

Thank you, Netgalley and MacMillan Audio, for the audiobook ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Just Some Stupid Love Story
By: Katelyn Doyle
Narrators: Christine Larkin and Tim Paige

This was a cute rom-com debut. I loved the witty banter between the main characters: Seth and Molly. Molly is a romantic-comedy screen writer but does not believe in love. Seth is a divorce lawyer who believes in love. The two were high school sweethearts but Molly broke up with Seth at graduation. Now they are reunited at their high school reunion and the sparks are flying.

💜2nd chance romance
💜high school sweethearts
💜reverse grumpy x sunshine
💜he falls first
💜dual pov

The narrators did a fantastic job. Voices were pleasant.

Thank you @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I thoroughly loved it.

This is a wonderfully fun story about two people destined for each other. Or are they? A high school 15th reunion brings two people back into each other's lives and they make a bet about who will be (or not be) together at their 20th reunion. So cleverly written with chapters trading between Seth and Molly, I devoured this book. The eternal romanticist versus the permanent pessimist.
Rooting for these two was so fun. If you want a great beach read where you giggle out look at times then this book is for you.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Macmillan audio for this ARC!

She’s spent years writing scripts for romantic movies and hates all things romance. In spite of being a divorce lawyer, he’s desperately seeking the love of his life. After 15 years apart, are these opposites bound to fall back into each other’s lives?

Just Some Stupid Love Story is a stand-alone, second chance romance. While this is a slow-burn, once things heat up, there is plenty of open-door content.

There’s something about the FMC that didn’t click with me. I had the same issues with a similar book, where one of the MCs rude/bullying behavior is just excused away because of trauma. It’s always complicated when the MCs have a long history together, even if they’ve been apart for a while. I think that’s why the MCs almost come off as immature, because they’re basically reverting back to the time they knew each other last.

Both narrators, Christine Lakin and Tim Paige, did well with the material. They really brought to life all of the snarky little banter bits.

This is the author’s debut novel. While it wasn’t a great fit for me, I would be interested in checking out her work again in the future.

I voluntarily listened to and reviewed an advanced copy of this audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
