2.5/5 rounding up to 3 Stars. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this audiobook of My Husband's Ex by Rosie Walker narrated by Helen McAlpine.

I'm not sure how I feel with this story. The set up was a weird situation and it was not a big hit with me. The narrator did a good job and it was easy to follow but I just could not get into the story. It was weird to hear that your ex invited you to spend the holiday together...and you still go? It was just a weird family dynamic and just not my typical read. This felt like this novel was just a small scene from "Days of Our Lives" when I had to watch with my mom. I don't know...it just was not for me.

There were some good parts but I don't think I'll be recommending this book to my friends.

Title: My Husband's Ex by Rosie Walker - A Heart-Pounding Thriller That Will Keep You Guessing

As an ARC reader of "My Husband's Ex" by Rosie Walker, I was immediately drawn into the heart-pounding suspense of this gripping psychological thriller.

The story starts innocently enough with Jenna welcoming a stranger into her home, only to realize that the woman, Alice, is her husband's ex-girlfriend. From that moment, tension crackles in the air, and the reader is thrust into Jenna's world of doubt, suspicion, and fear.

Walker skillfully weaves a tale of deception and betrayal, keeping readers guessing until the very end. The narrative unfolds with relentless pacing, each twist and turn heightening the stakes and leaving you breathless with anticipation. The storm that traps Jenna in her own home adds an extra layer of claustrophobia and intensity to the story, amplifying the sense of danger lurking around every corner.

What makes "My Husband's Ex" so compelling is its exploration of trust and manipulation within relationships. Jenna's desperation to protect her family and uncover the truth propels the narrative forward, while Alice's motives remain shrouded in mystery until the final, shocking reveal.

The characters are expertly crafted, each with their own secrets and motivations. Jenna is a protagonist you can't help but root for, her vulnerability and determination making her relatable and sympathetic. Alice, on the other hand, is a formidable antagonist, her icy demeanor and hidden agenda keeping readers on edge throughout.

The remote cottage setting in the Highlands adds to the story's atmosphere, with its isolation and eerie beauty mirroring the tension between the characters. Walker's vivid descriptions paint a picture of a place both enchanting and menacing, adding depth to the story's tone.

In conclusion, "My Husband's Ex" is a pulse-pounding thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. With its jaw-dropping twists and complex characters, it's a must-read for fans of suspenseful fiction. Walker has crafted a story that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page.

I rated this book 4 stars because the story line was fantastic and I never knew what was going to happen next.

ERMYGOSH! What a wild, twisty ride. This book kept me up all night, and the narration was amazing. Highly recommended!

My Husband’s Ex is certainly a roller coaster ride. I was annoyed by the constant flip-flop of the main character. The drolling on about the state of her marriage became dull. However, the book had plenty of twists and turns and that’s always fun in a thriller. I’m going to check out The Baby Monitor next!

I really don’t know how to feel about this book. It was ok. The premise was weird and once you figured out why it happened, it didn’t get any better.

I had a lot of thoughts on this book so instead of a traditional review I just wrote all my thoughts down.

⁃ If my husband’s ex turned up at the door, while we are on a vacation to fix our marriage, on Christmas Eve, my first instinct would not be to let her in to get out of the cold. It would be to say “what the fuck are you doing here?” and kick her out no matter what the answer is. Girl bye we don’t have time for this
⁃ Oh I’m calling it now, Natasha is Ted’s daughter. 100%
⁃ Even if your ex did invite you to spend Christmas with his family, what in the world would possess you to accept??? That’s weird as hell. I do not trust Alice OR Ted even though he swears it wasn’t him that invited her
⁃ Oh hell nah, and now Sadie just caught Ted and Alice kissing??? THEY CAN BOTH GO OUT IN THE STORM, I don’t care! “She just pounced on me, I didn’t know what was going on!” Didn’t push her away though, did you big man??
⁃ Aha, I was right. Natasha is Ted’s daughter. Surprise surprise nobody is shocked
⁃ “Why didn’t you tell me?” “I tried!” *proceeds to explain how she absolutely didn’t try to tell him AT ALL and instead was weird and vague about things*
⁃ Aw lawd I guess Ted did know 😅
⁃ I hate these in laws good lord can they leave yet
⁃ Oh good they are leaving 😂
⁃ Sorry but I don’t care if Alice could be wanted for “kidnapping” or hurting her husband, you’re not going to endanger MY family. I am calling the police I don’t care what she says!!
⁃ Oh good a flashback, maybe we can get some real answers
⁃ Ted is such an asshole omg, if Sadie wants to get an abortion that is HER choice
⁃ She had a miscarriage so the choice was made for her and Ted has the audacity to be mad at that??? She literally didn’t do anything??? Girl leave this man right now
⁃ Oh my god Sadie is insane. Why would she invite Alice and Natasha here hoping Ted would stop being mad at her for having a miscarriage because then he would have another child to focus on??? That is insane logic what the fuck
⁃ And now Alice’s crazy husband is on the way. Sadie girl this is kinda your fault
⁃ Alice is being WAY too touchy feely with Ted girl if you don’t stop touching Sadie’s husband
⁃ LMAO not grandma calling Alice’s husband a pussy 😭😭
⁃ Omg it’s not Alice’s crazy husband at the door it’s just fecking NEIL
⁃ Well now the annoying in-laws are back and Patricia is already starting her bullshit again
⁃ Surprise! Alice’s crazy husband is actually not a threat and not even here because she almost killed him back in Glasgow and left him for dead! At least that’s what the news says 👀 also surprised the tv is working in this crazy storm
⁃ I really hope Alice drowns in this storm
⁃ This heart to heart between Sadie and Ted is interesting
⁃ I really don’t care what excuses Ted pulls out of his ass, he was an absolute asshole to Sadie when she had a miscarriage and I don’t think there’s anything he can say to make me understand why??? Like oh your girlfriend was pregnant 15 years ago and you didn’t know what to do?? Grow up Ted
⁃ *Ted pushes her into a dangerous running river during a huge storm and tells her he should kill her* Sadie: “I don’t know, maybe if we go to couples counseling we can work it out?” Girl is delulu
⁃ Ope, RIP Ted. I’m not sorry to see him go
⁃ Okay so I guess we like Alice now??
⁃ Omg not Alice thinking because she helped Sadie get rid of her abusive husband that Sadie needs to help her get rid of hers???
⁃ What a weird ending

Overall, a weird book for sure. The Scottish narrator did a great job, though. But I don’t think I would recommend this. But thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, anyway!

"My Husband's Ex" by Rosie Walker is an exciting thriller. The audiobook is narrated by Helen McAlpine with a strong Scottish brogue accent. It took me a while to get used to the accent, but then it was fine. She told the story with a lot of emotion.

Sadie and Ted are on Christmas vacation with their two young daughters at a beautiful old house near his childhood home in the Scottish highlands. Soon after arriving, someone else shows up - Ted's ex-girlfriend, Alice, and her daughter! She said she was invited by Ted. What does she want?

The book is told from Sadie's point of view. Throughout the whole story, there is a very bad storm outside with high winds and heavy rain.

The book is very exciting, but telling you any more would spoil it. I highly recommend this book to thriller lovers!

An intriguing premise which unfortunately didn’t feel as cohesive and well developed as it could have been. The story left questions throughout when problems were alluded to but not expanded upon (for example: what were the problems that the couple were trying to fix) and some of the main characters inner monologues were repetitive. There were some twists throughout and some moments that stood out as very tense and some well developed characters (some likeable, some not so much).
Over all 3 stars for the story which was excellently narrated by Helen McAlpine

Ex-Girlfriend by Rosie Walker and narrated by Helen McAlpine was excellent addictive psychological thriller from start to finish and I loved it. This was an audiobook that was full of twists and turns that will have you gripped this kept me guessing what is actually happening and why until the last chapter. I found it hard to turn this audiobook off and carried on listening to it when I was in bed! Before I knew it it was dark outside and my hubby was a sleep beside me!! Superb audiobook/book

The narrated by Helen McAlpine was excellent, I loved her Scottish accent and she spoke very clear and bought this book alive.

A solid 4 in the domestic suspense genre, and, if that's your cup of tea, this one is a great read. Perfect for the upcoming beach season.

As an audio book, I will admit the accent of the narrator took a bit to adjust to, but, once I was drawn into the story, it all flowed and the accent went away.

I always love a story where location is a character, and this one set in a remote home, on the verge of a storm, at Christmas - it was perfect. Truly the only place all of this could work perfectly - a married couple, kids and an ex partner who shows up unannounced, without a vehicle, and no way to leave.

An easy listen that filled a day and a half. I'll check out more by author Rosie Walker.

Sadie and Ted are vacationing in the highlands for Christmas hoping to save their marriage. But when Ted’s ex, Alice, shows up at their secluded cabin with a daughter in tow things get
dicey. Alice’s arrival slowly sends Sadie into a downward mental spiral that seems to have some lifetime consequences. How did Alice know they would be there? Did someone invite her? There is only one way to find out, invite her in.
Overall rating 3 / 5
This book was a quick thrill read that had me hooked from beginning to end. I was intrigued to find out who the ex was and how her character would evolve throughout the story. I always love a book with an unreliable narrator. However, I could have done without some of the side stories, Alice’s husband, that seemed to add nothing notable to the story.
A chapter or two from Natasha’s POV would have been fascinating or more from Sadie’s therapy sessions.
The narration by Ariel Lawhon was so well done. All the voices she was able to do for each character is commendable!

*Thank you to Rosie Walker, Netgalley and Bookoutore audio for the audio copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.

As this was my first Rosie Walker novel so I wasn't sure what exactly to expect, but I can confirm i will be reading more of Ruhi's books!! I was completely hooked from the start which continued throughout. I did find a times it was bit far fetched but at the end of the day this is a story made to catch attention.
Overall this was a great suspense thriller that had me wanting to find out more. I would 100% recommend this book to all readers.
Thanks to Rosie Walker, NetGalley for the ARC.

This was an OK book.

This is an 'i am not sure' book because it was fine - not bad, not brilliant but could of been so much better. seemed a little rushed in places and was pretty unrealistic.

an easy read though - i wouldn't put others off reading it, just not for me.

I really loved the twists and turns in this book and the fact that they were staring the reader in the face, but the pace of the book made you unable to put the pieces together! As a reader, I was frustrated at how many little things I picked up on and then, ultimately, ignored but it is a credit to a writer that they are able to cause that effect through guiding the reader down another path. I loved this book and I’m excited to check out other books by this author!

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book!

An Exciting Read

This book follows the turmoil faced by Sadie when her husband Ted's ex crashes their family Christmas getaway and claims to have been invited by Ted.

The blurb, the premise and the plot called to me and this book did not disappoint. It dives right in into the meat of the story and does not drag or lose pace in between. The characters all seemed very suspicious and had me wondering what the twist could be.
The plot setting and progression were, tense, heart-pounding and fabulously performed by the narrator Helen McAlpine.

I quite enjoyed the simplistic writing style of the author and loved how the twists were sprung on us. However, the ending seemed pretty rushed and maybe a little far fetched. But, a thoroughly satisfying read. I hope to read more by the author.

I received an ARC of the Audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to Netgalley, the Author and the Publisher for providing an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book made zero sense. The FMC Sadie's inner monologue was annoying and repetitive. This review contains a lot of spoilers so don't read it if you plan to actually read the book, but if you do read the book, don't be surprised by how utterly not thrilling it is.

1). After like 12 years of marriage there is some mysterious problem between Ted and Sadie.
2) Sadie had a bad childhood, she doesn't want her kids to experience the same (her dad left her and her mom for a new family). This point is brought up to exhaustion throughout the book. We get it, you care about your kids. Everyone does. I don't need to hear it 45 times in a 9 hour book.
3) Alice is Ted's ex, from like, college. He is mysterious about how the relationship ends, but it turns out he knew about his daughter Natasha the entire freaking time. Looser.
4) Apparently Sadie also new about Natasha, in an abstract, you know after you know, but then are convinced you know all along kind of way?
5) Oh yeah, later you find out it was Sadie who invited Alice to Christmas. The unreliable narrator didn't work for me here. The entire book is Sadie's fault.
6) You find out the mystery between Ted and Sadie about halfway through, and then you realize that Sadie is a complete idiot, because for a therapist, she has remarkedly little ability to process her feelings.
7) supposedly there was some danger from Alice's husband, but, it made no sense, since the police wanted Alice because he had been "left for dead." Which means he was in a hospital and not running around the Scottish country side in a massive flood.
8) the ending made zero sense, but even as Sadie almost drowns, we still have time for one more lengthy inner monologue about all the hopes she has for her children.
9) there was no tension in this book, there was no rooting for Sadie because she was dumb and kept making these blanket declarations like she knows Ted and he loves her and they are a solid couple and then she didn't know him at all and she knew all along he was a bad man? Like wtaf.
10) It would have been great if Robin had showed up and picked them off one by one, the ending, unfortunately was much more lame.

I felt like this was really slow at some points and then sped through other parts. I did like the setting in a remote area with a lodge. The remote area made the perfect backdrop for a psychological thriller. There were a few un expected twists throughout but it just didnt blow me away.
