Having lived in Asia for two years, my family learned about what makes the perfect persimmon, and we devoured this tale. We loved the illustrations and the message of being patient, while also dealing with disappointment,

Really sweet book. I loved how she had such a connection with her Grandma and wanted a perfect persimmon for her. I also like that the book showed us insight on another culture.

Thank you Netgalley and Astra publishing House for the wonderful ARC in exchange of honest review.

This story of Joo Hong made me nostalgic. It has those vibes which reminds you of your own childhood and your relationship with your grandparents.

A story can be so much than just a story, it can be wrapped as a blanket of warmth and the most perfect Persimmon proves it.

Highly recommended.

True to the author's word, this book indeed radiates the warmth of love within the reader. The storyline are simple and straightforward but it managed to make me invested in every sentences. I like how it potrays a small child's dedication towards something. It is pure, cute and somehow motivates me to do the same: to be dedicated like her.

Illustrations wise: chef kiss!
Sentence & illustration arrangement: seamless and complete each other in an organised style.

The story is about a little girl Joo Hong who wants to save some good permission for her grandma who will be visiting her in a few days. This tale is oozing with love, care in familial relations, the bubbling curiosity of a young mind and the efforts she put into her actions for her loved ones.

The magnetic illustrations filled life into the heartwarming story.

Poor Joo Hong! Her grandmother is coming for a visit, but not for a few more weeks. It’s hard to wait, but Joo Hong uses her time to coax the tree in her backyard to yield the most perfect persimmons by hugging the tree, scaring off fruit-seeking birds and checking the fruit, day or shine. Once the perfect persimmons are ready to pick, the grandmother still isn’t here! What if Grandmother arrives too late to get a perfect persimmon?

Author-illustrator Hannah Chung’s picture book captures the anguish of waiting and of fearing that everything won’t be perfect for that beloved visitor. A wonderful book for young and old, dare I say perfect?

In the interest of full disclosure, I received this book from NetGalley, Astra Publishing House and Astra Young Readers in exchange for an honest review.

Pjs, cuddling, and story-time before bed is a favorite at our house! The last couple weeks the kids had so much fun reading some new material I was given advanced copies of. It’s cute how now they ask what new books I have to read. As soon as I’m finished they will tell me what they loved about the book. My great little reviewers! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️📚📖 @netgalley #netgalley

I love that this little girl took so much time and care into a gift for her grandmother. I've recently learned about how important persimmons are in Korean culture, and the persimmon ending up being a special type of treat was wonderful.

I found this to be a cute story about waiting...until the time is right or for a visit from family. I also loved the Korean culture infused into the illustrations and the story. The grandmother had such a positive reframe on the situations, which I absolutely loved because kids tend to think everything bad is the worst thing in the world, when in reality, it's not always!

Cute book! Joo Hong has the perfect persimmon and she can’t wait for her grandmother to get there so she can share it with her.

This book is probably aimed more at primary age (K-2, 5-8 years old). It would be perfect for talking about when we wait something better comes or talking about the life cycle of fruits and vegetables and how fruit ripens.

My daughter really enjoyed this book. The story is about a little girl trying to keep the picked persimmons perfect for when her grandma comes to visit.
A very cute story, that was very relatable for my 5-year-old daughter. She got really into it and kept asking when the grandma would show up as she worried about the persimmons. I can see us rereading this one often.

Joo Hong has a persimmon tree in her backyard. She can’t to share them with her Halmoni who is coming to visit. Halmoni can’t come soon enough! Are the persimmons ripe enough or too ripe?
Beautiful pictures accompany this story by author/illustrator Hannah Chung. This struck a very personal note with me as I grew up with a Hachiya persimmon tree in my backyard, so persimmons give me a very cozy autumn feel. I loved the three generations enjoying the simplicity of a beautiful fruit.

The Most Perfect Persimmon is a delightful book that I am excited to share with my daughter. The story is sweet and easy to palate, and a lovely little glimpse into Korean culture. Being of Korean descent, I am familiar with what ripened persimmons turn into, and having enjoyed both a similar experience with my own grandmother (and observed the sharing of ripened persimmons between my mother and daughter), was particularly enthused by this storytelling. Thank you to Hannah Chung for sharing a bit of her heritage with the world through this delightful book. The illustrations are also beautiful. Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for allowing me the privilege to enjoy this ARC!!

This is such a sweet children’s book, about the desire for something to be perfect, and that it’s okay when everything doesn’t turn out exactly how you wanted.

A young girl named Joo Hong wanted to give her grandmother the most perfect persimmons from her tree… but her grandma isn’t going to be there for a few weeks, and by the time she gets there, the persimmons aren’t looking so perfect anymore.

The illustrations are beautiful, the story is so relatable, and the lesson that “things don’t always go as planned, but the results might turn out better that way” is such a good one to learn.

A lovely debut for readers 4-8 by writer/illustrator Hannah Chung. We follow a young Korean American girl, Joo Hong, who with her mother waits for the perfect time to harvest persimmons for her beloved visiting grandmother.

When she arrives, Joo Hong bursts into tears because the persimmons are just past their prime. No, explains the grandmother, they are just as I like them. They're a "hongshi, with lots of love and care over time."

The lesson: "When things don't go as planned, something even better may be in store." A charming tale perfect for young readers and the adults who love them.

This book is well written and well illustrated, expression by expression, detail by detail. It’s a very smooth read and made me curious to what comes next, what happens to the fruit, and where is grandma. I love that the story is based on the author’s own real experience!

Definitely going to create some fanart for this book on my insta thegazanartist
