The first book in the Kan Savasci Cycle series of books, Tears of a Heart takes us through the story of Kirin D'Velt, who has had the gory curse of having to live through the murder of his own father, who was a village chief, and got massacred by an evil force along with the rest of the village. While having been adopted by a group of kind monks who help heal his mind and soul, Kirin has an inherent restlessness within him to discover the true purpose of his birth. It's a lovely coming-of-age story woven with fantasy, and the four parts of the book served well to make it gripping. I loved Blackwood's narrative style and the descriptice imagery he brings in to each scene. It's an enjoyable read, and my thanks to Blackwood, the publishers Plenary Fitness, and NetGalley for gifting me with a copy of this book.
