The first in the Donovan Sisters series, Confessions of an Improper Bride introduces us to Serena Donovan who is the sort of romantic heroine a modern woman enjoys and can identify with. She rebels against the expectations of her mother and aunt and takes risks for love. Unfortunately, the man she trusts proves unworthy of her. Serena and her twin sister Meg are sent back to the Caribbean in disgrace. Meg ends up leaving her own beloved Captain Will Landry to accompany Serena home. There is an awful accident and Meg is thrown overboard. Serena tries to live up to her sister's memory.

We learn that Mrs Donovan took advantage of Meg's death to get rid of Serena's past. An announcement was sent that Serena Donovan perished. Serena is asked to pretend to be Meg and to return to London to marry Will. Serena promises to do right by this good man but she has a hard time ignoring her own first love who has since ascended to the title and lives right around the corner.

It's easy to lose oneself in the ups and downs of Serena's love story. I used up quite a lot of tissues reading this and thoroughly enjoyed it!
