A manga adaptation of Jane Eyre that makes this rather weighty classic so much more accessible to a wider audience. I might not have hated this book so much when forced to read it (too early) as a teenager if I'd read this manga version! As an adult I can appreciate the full novel now, but it took me a number of years to get over the trauma of being forced to read it before I was ready. It seemed so BORING, and the illustrations in this manga version would have made it a lot more engaging for 15-year-old me.

I absolutely love the Manga Classics. The Jane Eyre one was just as good as the rest. It is well drawn, easy to follow, with a language true to the original novel, but also understandable. A great addition to any middle or high school library.

Jane Eyre adapts very well into a manga. This particular re-telling is extremely accurate and true to the original story. We follow a woman named Jane throughout the majority of her adolescence into her adult life. Jane's story is initially an unfortunate one, she is being raised by an aunt who despises her and is quick to rid herself of Jane's presence. Jane spends time at an all-girls boarding school (which is easily my favourite part of the story, manga version and original) where still she faces hardships, but also finally receives the companionship she so desired. Our last major stop in Jane's life is the time she spends as a governess for Mr. Rochester's daughter Adele. There is something strange going on in Mr. Rochester's household and Jane is interested to find out what.

Jane Eyre is very much a character driven story. The focus is Jane's character, how she develops as a person, her interactions with others, and her love life. I was pleasantly surprised by the pacing of the story, and found this adaptation much more engaging than the original story.

Again, as I mentioned in my Les Mis manga review, I throughly enjoyed the artwork of Jane Eyre, however, it was almost too cute. Jane in particular is adorable and this does not fit with the original novel description of her appearance. I would have preferred Jane to be more plain-looking. I have zero complaints about any of the other characters in terms of appearance.

If classics are somewhat daunting for you, then I'd highly recommend this adaptation. It is true to the original story, and although I read the original recently, I was still very engaged and interested in this story.

I am SO glad I was given a copy of this. I had tried to read my original copy of Jane Eyre and found it a it too hard to follow and thought id give it a go another time. Then I see this and the match between it and me was perfect. The graphics are amazing and the story is so easy to follow and so enjoyable. This will easily be one of my favourite books. Apparenly there are slight changes made for it to work as a Manga book, but I feel that it still works and this version is also best for younger readers too and those why have also had trouble following the text of the original. An excellent book and highly recommended. Plus I love the cover! Its just beautiful.

I really enjoyed this book! Again, Manga Classics has outdone themselves with the illustrations! It's a gorgeous and quick read and I was so happy to have it!

I like manga and I love the movies from Jane Eyre, but I didn't like the book. But this manga is amazing. It read fast and it was really nice. The artist and the writer both did an amazing job by giving this story yet another lovely adaption.

I absolutely LOVE this manga adaptation. Some scenes you find in the book are absent for reasons of length, I guess, but never mind, this is spectacular all the same. Being able to watch this beloved characters act on the page is priceless, seeing them utter the precise words they utter in the book too is beyond beautiful. Akin to watching the same thing happen on a screen, but with a pinch of something *different* that only an excellently drawn manga comic such as this can give you. It gave me the best kind of chills.

Manga Classics adapts classics with beautiful illustrations using the author's original work as text instead of just retelling or paraphrase of the work.
Jane Eyre is the story of an orphan who left in the care of family who do not ant her there. For Jane, being sent away to school is a reprieve rom the abuse and torment from her aunt and cousins. At school Jane learns about faith and how to continue even in the face of trauma. Once she graduates, she acts as a governess and tutor for a young girl at the home of an odd man who soon captures her heart but life is not happily ever after.
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classic and I loved how faithful this adaption was to the original work . I still felt just as emotionally for Jane; making it a manga did not detract from the words. The illustrious are lovely and I really enjoyed seeing the story happen before my eyes.
In fact, I now want to read their adaptions of other classics that I had no interest in reading in novel form.

I liked this manga adaptation of Jane Eyre a lot. I've read the book a number of times but this would be a more accessible way to help those who don't read classics give them a go. I liked the style of drawing and the bulk of the story was there. I did sometimes miss the details the book includes though but it can't all be included.

So far, the drawings are awesome, but I can't stand victims... no patience to bear the "poor me" thing.

Jane Eyre has always been one of my favorites, and manga form is no less wonderful. If I had any complaints it would be just how young Jane looks, even in comparison with the other young women in the story.

Following the original story to a T, this Manga Classic makes the story more approachable, especially for those who may not be as inclined to read the full story. Highly recommend.

I'm a huge fan of anything and everything Jane Eyre, so this Manga classic was a treat. I've read a few of the Manga classics, and find they are really thoughtfully done. The Manga style lends itself well to these retelling of beloved classics.

Along with another Manga Classic I saw this book in a store and adored the drawings. I haven't read Jane Eyre before but I like that I will get to read the story while also enjoying some amazing artwork. I definitely recommend Manga Classics to people that don't want to read the original work but want to know the story.

Two years ago, I was able to read the unabridged story of Jane Eyre. I fell in love with the story right away and I've finished reading it within a week without skipping any parts or pages; I even consider it number one on my favorite classic books. I also got to watched several movie adaptations of this novel: from the latest 2011 version, 1983 and yes — even the 1973 version. That shows how much I admire this classic.

When I saw that there's a graphic novel published, I didn't waste any time to check out if they made a good adaptation of this well-loved novel. Thumbs up for all those who are behind the publication because everything about this is magnificent. I would definitely recommend this to my friends or acquaintances who still haven't read the book to check out this graphic novel; so they will be also included to the the millions who got enchanted with the story.

The manga had been quite an enjoyable read. I had read Jane Eyre a few years ago, so it was nice having a refresher. SunNeko did a wonderful job with the graphics, and I found the dialogue adequate.

The manga takes place over the whole span of the actual book, mostly focusing on Jane's childhood and her time as a governess. It does a great job retelling most of the main points in Charlotte Bronte's classic and effectively reveals Jane's thoughts and feelings.

However, the story plot was romanticized, making Mr Rochester much dreamier than he should have been. Jane should have been plainer, but then again, this was manga. Everything has to be a little stylized to be ... a manga. I never thought I'd say this, but I actually ship Jane and Mr Rochester.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read, and I found the romance adorable.

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite works of classic literature, so I was a little skeptical about this manga, but I decided to check it out anyway. I'm so happy that I did because it has made me love Jane Eyre even more! The art is beautiful and the script is faithful to the original. Out of all of the Manga Classics I've read this adaption is by far my favorite.

Here we go: my favourite story in all the world. I'm a huge adaptation snob when it comes to this book, seeing as it gets picked up every 5 years or so and repackaged.

What did I think? It absolutely did the story justice. It barely cut out a thing apart from some of the conversations between Jane and Mr Rochester, my only quibbles are that the fortune seller scene didn't make any sense at all in this version and Mr Rochester was even illustrated too handsome... but that's just me being pedantic.

Each chapter of this adaptation ended in a cliffhanger, which would be ideal for study groups taking it a chapter at a time.

I would have loved to see this in colour, to satisfy my own tastes but it's a thumbs up from me!

I'm a classics fan, and I have read Jane Eyre in the past. Manga is a bit awkward for me, takes some getting used to. I thought this was a great adaptation, though. For the die-hard classics lover like me, I'd recommend reading the regular version as well, and probably first. I think the manga version would be a great way to get this classic into the hands of those who don't do a lot of traditional reading, and also younger audiences. I'd also like to see some color added to the final version. Overall, I'd give the story itself, as well as the manga adaptation, 4 stars.

Jane Eyre was orphaned at a young age. She was sent to live with her aunt and cousins, but they never treated her well. After an incident with her cousin, Jane’s aunt, Mrs. Reed, send Jane to a school. The conditions weren’t good at the school, with the girls being underfed and underclothed. Eventually the school got better, and Jane taught there for a few years when she finished her own schooling. Then, she put out an ad to be a governess. Mrs. Fairfax asked Jane to come to teach Adele, Mr. Rochester’s charge. Soon after Jane arrives, strange things happen. She thinks the house is haunted.

Jane Eyre is one of my favourite books. It has just enough mystery in it to make it suspenseful.

This graphic novel is great! It tells the story very well.

I liked the way that Jane looked very evil as a child. She had dark hair and eyes, and she was always yelling at people. It made her very spooky and set the tone for what will happen later in the story.

Each of the characters looked very distinct, so I could distinguish between them. Sometimes, if the characters are drawn in the same style, they can blend together and become confused. But the characters all had a separate style of clothes and looks in this story.

This is my favourite book in the Manga Classics series!

What can I say about this? It was a great refresher and a fun way to dip my toes into the Brontë’s work again without having to commit to a longer read of the entire novel. I talked about the pros of illustrated classics when I read the Marvel Illustrated Jane Austen works (Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Emma, and Northanger Abbey) and again when I read is when I read the Manga Classics Emma, so there’s not much point in rehashing those.

Overall, the adapters and artist did a great job on the adaptation. There were a couple of things that I was like uh that definitely wasn’t in the book, i.e. positioning of characters and character interactions. I guess it just has to do with making the stories more accessible to wider audiences.

Recommendation: I still prefer the Marvel Illustrated style, but since they didn’t deign the Brontë’s important enough to adapt before they shuttered, this is a pretty good option. They’re a quick refresher on the classics and if they do the job right, which so far both the Manga Classics and the Marvel Illustrated have) they’ll make you want to (re)read the originals!
