This book put a huge smile on my face before it even finished downloading. The Princess Bride has been one of my twue woves since it was first released, so I couldn’t pass this new cookbook up.

Highest honors are earned here by Jenn Fujikawa for maintaining the integrity of the beautiful book and movie which preceded this creative cookbook. Pictures and dialogue from the film are included amongst the recipes.

The book is a beauty even before you delve into the recipes, which you must!! Categories include breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts, drinks, and ideas for soirees. The recipes have appropriately adorable names: “Chips of Insanity,” “Hash you Wish,” “ Twoo Wove’s Kiss cookies,” and “Papercut with Lemon Juice” to name a few. They seem fairly easy to make, and appealing to the majority.

I cannot wait to buy a stack of these for my fellow Princess Bride-loving friends. I’m absolutely going to find an excuse to make it a centerpiece of a display at our library.

I greatly appreciate NetGalley and BenBella Books for granting access to an advanced digital reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

A cookbook for Princess Bride fans. Full of photos from the movie and with recipes that relate to the plot, this is lots of fun. I wish there was a non-fun name correlation for some - like ... (Shakshuka) underneath. The only other thing is I would've liked more pictures of the food as most of the pictures are from the movie. Overall, a fun cookbook though!

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Princess Bride: The Official Cookbook.

I was so excited that I downloaded it the second my request was approved.

This official cookbook is a great tribute to an enduring, iconic movie.

I don't know anyone who doesn't love the movie and who wouldn't love this cookbook?

The cookbook adds quotes and movie stills amidst the recipes and most of the recipe titles are a twist on famous lines and quotes from the movie.

My only caveat is I wish there were more photos of the dishes, but I did love reading the quotes and see the movie stills. This brought wonderful memories when I watched the movie the first time. And the 20th. And 50th.

This is a great cookbook for any fan of the movie or any movie fan.

To say I’m a fan of the movie The Princess Bride is an understatement, so when I saw this pop up to request, I jumped at the chance to read it.

I'm always really impressed with the creativity, research, and thought that goes into cook books based on movies or literature. The food has titles with references to the film, i.e. Hash You Wish, Chips of Insanity, and R.O.U.S.es (Rolls of Unusual Size that look like Rodents of Unusual Size). Even a recipe for an M.L.T. (“Mutton”, Lettuce, and Tomato).

There are color photos from the movie’s scenes, introducing the recipes with quotes from the film and what the characters may have eaten.

All of the recipes seem very easy to make, with step by step instructions, and even a handful include ways to zhuzh up or use already made ingredients to make a bigger dish. There are also full menu ideas after the recipes and an alphabetized index with behind the scenes photos from the movie.

My biggest criticism is that there are more pictures from film than of the food. Less than 50% of the recipes had pictures (53 recipes, but 24 photos). I’m a visual person, so that would have been better for me than to read through an entire recipe, trying to figure out exactly what the dish was.

Overall, I think it’s a great cookbook for any Princess Bride fan. The recipes aren’t complicated and can be made at any time, not just for a watch party.

Thank you to BenBella Books and NetGalley. I voluntarily read an early copy of this cookbook.

This is the absolute PERFECT cookbook for fans of the movie! Not only was it filled with beautiful colored pictures of the movie, it also had quotes and trivia. And the pictures of the food were to die for. It even has party theme ideas at the end!

I made a dish from each section: Snack, Dinner, Dessert, & Drink. [Photos posted on Instagram 11/05]

The recipes were very easy to follow and VERY delicious. I'll be needing to get my hands on a physical copy as soon as it publishes because I need that bread pudding recipe forever in my life. Drool-worthy.

The Princess Bride Cookbook is a tutorial guide with recipes and media homage to the film with written and curated by Jenn Fujikawa. Due out 6th Dec 2022 from Ben Bella Books on their Smart Pop imprint, it's 192 pages and available in hardcover and ebook formats. It's made in association with the requisite approvals and permissions, so it's an officially approved product which is very nice.

This is an upbeat and well written cookbook with a fun vibe full of recipes named in homage to the iconic and beloved film. The introduction includes a short background history of the making of the Princess Bride and snippets of dialogue.

The recipes are all named in reference to the film (six-fingered sandwiches, Humperdinck's eggs & soldiers, "Mutton" lettuce & tomato sandwiches, etc). Recipe ingredients are listed bullet style in a sidebar. Measurements are given in imperial (USA) measurements only. There is no nutritional info provided. Special tools and ingredients are also listed, along with yields and step by step cooking directions. Special features such as gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan are noted in the header.

All the recipes are arranged thematically: Enchanting breakfasts, Gallant lunches, Adventurous dinners, Swashbuckling snacks, Valiant desserts, Triumphant drinks, and Momentous soirées (menus for gatherings and parties).

The ingredients will be easily sourced at any moderately well stocked grocery store. Most of the recipes are accompanied by one or more photos. The photographs which are included are clear and appealing and serving suggestions are appropriate. It's also absolutely *full* of wonderful photo stills and shots from the film which filled me with a warm nostalgia.
This book would make a great gift for film lovers. It would be a star feature for folks who enjoy filmwatching parties with friends. There's a whole cookbook subgenre associated with recipes for fandom tie-ins and this is a very very good example.

Five stars. Have fun stormin' da castle! <3

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This is a must for any Princess Bride fan. A wonderful collection of recipes inspired by the movie. Lots of gorgeous photos and thoughtful write ups about the recipes. Lots of funny titles ("mawage meatwoaf") and overall just a beautiful book.

Ok I love this cookbook! There are a lot of fun and yummy recipes in here. The names of the recipes are perfectly named for the movie scenes/characters. The pictures are great, however I do wish there were more pictures of the food and maybe less of the movie. Most of the recipes are pretty easy with minimal ingredients and prep/cook times, but they do go up to a more intermediate/pro level as well.
I will definitely buy this for my shelf when the physical copy is released.

The Princess Bride Cookbook has everything you need to host your party celebrating the 35th anniversary of The Princess Bride. The food ideas are creative and the names are whimsical. The way Jenn Fujikawa ties in the recipes with scenes from the book is delightful. A must have for any fan of The Princess Bride.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy of the book. The opinions are my own.

What a fun cookbook! Everyone loves The Princess Bride, and now it’s possible to prepare dishes that most likely were served during the time of The Princess Bride. Recipes can be found in The Princess Bride: The Official Cookbook by Jenn Fujikawa.

Fujikawa has included recipes for dishes that we all like, and has given them clever names that relate to the fantasy time period of the movie. She has also added photographs from the movie, as well as vignettes with information about the scenes and characters.

The recipes are written in the traditional manner and are easy to follow with step-by-step instructions. They are mouthwatering and mostly easy, so anyone can prepare them, whether or not they are beginning or advanced cooks. There is also a beautiful photograph of almost every recipe; the photographs are beautiful and will bring back memories from the 1987 classic film.

Fans of The Princess Bride will welcome not only the recipes, but also how delightful the movie is, and will be inspired to watch it again while eating some of the fun recipes that are included. Although this is not an all-purpose cookbook, it has excellent recipes that readers will actually want to prepare. It should definitely have a place on the cookbook shelves of readers who like to collect cookbooks based on their favorite books and movies. Recommended for Princess Bride fans.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Who (from the 80’s and earlier) doesn’t love and incessantly quote The Princess Bride, and absolutely adore Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Cary Elwes, Wallace Shawn, Peter Falk (Colombo!), and of course Fred Savage! Who wouldn’t want a cookbook completely devoted to this beloved movie, with recipes named for the characters and movie icons? ROUSs that you can eat?

This is a fantastic cookbook full of the most brilliant food and beverage names straight from one of the most well-known, classic movies of our time. It’s filled with beautiful photos from the classic scenes, including behind-the-scenes shots at the back.

I think the only thing I would suggest is photos of every recipe included - there are a ton of movie shots, but a lot of the recipes are included with no image to know exactly what the cute movie name really translates to food-wise, and you can only get so much from reading a recipe if you’re not the best cook. Trying to figure out from some listed ingredients and cooking instructions if you might like to try that dish is more likely with a tasty food photo with each option! There were only so many recipes that it would be better if the author made the dishes and did photo shoots of the food and had less movie shots included.

Otherwise, great movie to meal comparisons with the titles, beautiful photos for those that were included, and very tasty, creative options that are nothing like the traditional cookbooks out there! It’s quite on the high price side, but would make a great Christmas present in hard-back for a lover of the movie!

I received an advance review copy from NetGalley and BenBella Books, Smart Pop, and this is my honest feedback.

    “Aaaaaas yooooooou diiiiiiiiish!”

This cookbook will be on every 80s child’s Christmas list.

Not only does it have trivia, quotes, and movie stills, it has over a hundred themed dishes.

In breakfast, there’s Buttercup Buttermilk Scones, Brute Squad Bake, and Most Likely to Kill You in the Morning (egg and tomato skillet).

Lunches? Six-Fingered Sandwhiches, Chips of Insanity, and, of course, MLT, (where the mutton is lean and the tomatoes are ripe).

Dinners have you eating Shrieking Eels (okay, udo noodles), Vizzini’s Sicilian Meatballs, and Mawidge Meatwoaf.

Sweet tooth? Bread Pirate Roberts, Miracle Max’s Miracle Pills (chocolate truffles), and Florin’s 500th Anniversary Cake.

There’s even a drink section with Iocane Powder Punch, Storming the Castle, and something called Dizzying Intellect.

But let’s face it, you’re not buying this stunner for the recipes, (tho’ they’re pretty solid, if stodgy, English fare), you’re paying for the glossy photos of all your favourite characters.

    Life without nostalgia? Inconceivable.

    8/10

Thanks to NetGalley and BenBella Books for this tasty ARC.

Anybody growing up in the 80's knows and loves The Princess Bride. Its a classic comfort movie, full of fighting, fencing, romance, adventure, and quotable quotes. Its also a massive nostalgia boost.

The Princess Bride Official Cookbook draws on this nostalgia factor with excerpts from the script and gorgeous glossy movie stills alongside recipes inspire by the film.

The recipes themselves are broken down into the standard sections: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks/salads, desserts, drinks and ad an added bonus, soiree suggestions - combinations of the recipes to cater an event.

Each recipe is themed according to the movie, and is preceded by a brief introduction about the character/scene, and description of the dish. I would have liked more photographs of the dishes themselves, as some of them aren't initially clear from the recipe what it is you're making.

(I also have a minor quibble that the main ingredient isn't always listed first in the ingredients list)

Despite that, the dishes all read as comfort food on a par with the movie itself. From Buttercup's Buttermilk Scones to Miracle Max's MLT to Mawidge Meatwoaf, Fezzik's peanuts, the Pit of Despair, the Miracle Pill, an Inconcievable beverage and many, many more, these recipes are fun accompaniments to a much loved movie.

This cookbook is a treat for any Princess Bride fans.

I absolutely love the movie "The Princess Bride." When I saw this cookbook, I had to ask to review it. I am so glad that I did. The pictures from the movies are absolutely stunning, and the movie snippets are tied in with the recipes and make for a fun read. The recipes are interesting and something that I would make for parties or dinner. Fezzik's Stew, Inigo's Courage, Twoo Wove's Kiss Cookies, and Good Night, Westley are all recipes I want to try. The recipes aren't too fussy and add to the fun of the concept. I will recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the movie and also to people who like good food with an interesting concept.

"The Princess Bride: The Official Cookbook" is a definite must-have for any fan of the movie. I must admit, I have never seen The Princess Bride, although my husband raves about it. I am, however, a cookbook fan and have rarely met a cookbook I didn't love. "The Bride Cookbook" is no exception. Although many of the recipes have gimmicky names related to the movie, the recipes are solid and do-able for most minimally competent home cooks. As a lover of the movie, my husband found the recipe names laughable in many cases.

Overall, I think this is a cookbook for lovers of the film but non-Princess Bride fans will still find many recipes to cook and enjoy.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love the Princess Bride so was so excited when I came across this cookbook. But once I saw the recipes names I knew I had to have it. The puns were hilarious!

I really enjoyed this cookbook. The commentary about the movie and the wide variety of recipes ensure it will be greatly enjoyed.

The one thing it was lacking that I wish it had was prep and cooking times listed with the ingredients. I went to make the Giant’s Boulders for dinner one day and read the recipe long enough to gather the ingredients ahead of time. What I didn’t do, and this is 100% on me, was read the recipe fully to resize that it required 2 hours of refrigeration and then 8 hours of freezing. So it became tomorrows dinner.

I love this book it is so creative and it has some fantastic recipes. I am loving this new genre of tying in recipe books to shows or movies I think it just makes things a little more nostalgic and how often have you ever watched a movie or show and seen something that you wish you could try.

I laughed so hard when I was reading the names of the recipes. I loved the names so much! This is MUST for any fan of The Princess Bride.

There is a lot to appeal to everyone's tastes in this book. I can't wait to make some of the recipes and watch the movie as I eat them.

The Princess Bride: The Official Cookbook is basically a love letter to Princess Bride fans! Besides amazing and creative recipes, the book included tons of photos and lots of quotes from the movie! It’s always difficult to create a full and encompassing cookbook based on a movie or story that has limited foods and drinks involved, but creative recipe takes like, Hash You Wish and Bread Pirate Roberts make this a wicked fun book! The recipes were easy to follow and pretty well varied.

I was so excited to get an early copy of this cookbook and The Princess Bride is one of my favorite books/movies! I really enjoyed the layout with pictures and references to the movie and book. The recipes match the story perfectly and I really look forward to making the Chips of Insanity! I will definitely be purchasing this book when it releases and possibly even copies for a few friends who are super fans and enjoy cooking. Pick up a copy for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!

This is a very clever cookbook! It is true to the spirit of The Princess Bride. If you know and love the movie (or book), then I think you will enjoy this cookbook. Each recipe is cleverly named after something important from the movie. There is a short introduction that references the movie and then segues into the recipe. The recipes are real and varied. Appetizers, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, deserts, and drinks. I started book marking recipes that I wanted to try and then found myself bookmarking more than half the recipes and gave up. I really enjoyed flipping through the pages for the little bits of dialogue and the images from the movie. I also really enjoyed what a great job the author did of connecting each recipe to the movie. Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy in return for my honest opinion.

Like most children of the (mumbles) I remember the first time I saw the Princess Bride. And like many of us over the last few years, I've got more into cooking than I was before. This book beautifully melds those two passions.

It covers the whole part of the day, from breakfast to supper and snacks for inbetween. Each recipe has a picture - not of the food, but from the movie - and a quote from the screenplay, along with a brief description of how the recipe fits into the story. The recipes themselves are clear and simple, with easy instructions - no complicated jargon or difficult to find ingredients here, just nice simple tasty food. I haven't cooked anything yet, but I'm planning a feast for the next time I watch the movie!

This is a fantastic cookbook for any fan of the movie - I'd say for anyone who'd not a fan as well, but does that person exist? As far as I'm concerned there are only fans and people who haven't seen it yet.

A brilliant book. I'm really looking forward to cooking from it.

    4.5/5 ⭐

Recipes are easy to follow and delicious. I absolutely loved all the puns in the titles, they are hilarious and so inventive. Each one comes with a little description describing it and letting you know how she tied them to the story, it generally has a quote from the movie too. My only complaint is that there are no prep or cook times listed with the ingredients, which can be really helpful when choosing what's for dinner that night.

    Iocaine Powder Punch
    5/5 ⭐

This was super easy to make and incredibly delicious. I couldn't find pop rocks, so I subbed sugar that I dyed pink, I imagine the pops would have been an even better touch. The presentation was really pretty and I imagine it'd be a perfect party drink.

    The Giant's Boulders
    5/5 ⭐

These will be a family staple for years to come. Everyone absolutely loved them!! Aside from the terribly long prep time that didn't mesh well with our family schedule.... There was nothing we didn't love. They were easy, the mac n cheese recipe was top notch and the crunch was amazing. I also loved the tip for dipping them in marinara, I never would have done that on my own and it was the perfect sauce for them. We did substitute a couple things; 2 cups crushed cheez-its and 1 cup panko instead of 3 cups of bread crumbs (simply because I thought we had bread crumbs but we didn't so I used what we had) and then just eggs instead of actual eggs for a egg allergy sub.

    R.O.U.S es
    5/5 ⭐

These sandwich pockets were so easy to make and incredibly delicious! My 6yr old helped me from beginning to end while we watched The Princess Bride [his first time] and had such a great time. We did sub cheddar for swiss cheese and melted butter for an egg wash, but that was for personal reasons and I'm sure the original options would have been just as delicious. We also paired them with tomato bisque and they made great dippers.

Did you enjoy the movie, The Princess Bride? Then you will love these recipes that highlight the characters and events in the movie!
Enjoy eating the Buttercup Buttercup Scones, Hash You Wish with potatoes, bacon and Fire Swamp Boiled Beef, and Prince Humperdinck's Eggs and Soldiers.
You will appreciate the photos and dialogue that accompany the meals as they help to bring back the pleasure of watching the movie!
The Princess Crown Breakfast Tart is made with butter, flour, cinnamon, blueberries, mango, raspberries and kiwi and is a large pizza sized fruit tart, Most Likely Kill You In The Morning is a eggs in purgatory spicy dish, and the Six Fingered Sandwich is a cucumber sandwich with dill flavored butter.
The Giants Boulders are made with mac and cheese and fried in bread crumbs and egg with marinara dip and Bonetti's Defense is a mix of steak, garlic, salt, pepper and onions grilled with skewers.
Enjoy prepping and eating these scrumptious foods while watching "The Princess Bride!"

So much more than a cookbook. This is a love letter to the movie of the century! Everyone loves Princess Bride and this book hits all the warm fuzzy feels. The recipes are wonderfully named, Hash You Wish, Brut Squad Bake, Chips of Insanity, Mostly Dead, Fezzik's Stew, Bread Pirate Robert's, Miracle Max's Pills, Inconceivable, Iocane Powder Punch and so many more. Everything is delicious and beautifully styled for the cookbook part but they also include party themes, movie stills, quotes, and tidbits of insider knowledge.

    Hash you wish...

If you think Hash You Wish, Six-Fingered Sandwiches and ROUS's are charming enough to eat, then htis is the cookbook for you. A bit of nostalgia amongst recipes with names inspired by the movie, we get recipes, with famous lines from the script with screengrabs and stills from the Princess Bride. This would be a clever and fun thing to have on hand for a movie night.
    Recommend.

I loved everything about this cookbook, the integration of the story, the recipes, the number of times I found myself reliving the first time, and the many times after that I watched the movie, it is perfect.

Since this is a cookbook let's start with that, the recipes are easy to follow and there are things for every level of home cook from beginner to advanced which I appreciated.

The way the story flows through the recipes was something I had not expected, and it was a brilliant surprise. I don't know why but I never would have thought of a cookbook being done this way, I'm so glad a story I love and hold dear to my heart was the first time I saw this approach.

While the story does take center stage at most points the descriptions of the recipes and how they fit with the foods were spot on.

I have to say there hasn't been another cookbook I enjoyed nearly as much as this one, more often than not I found myself just sitting and reading through it and enjoying the photos and movie memories.

Thank you to NetGalley and BenBella Books for providing an advance copy of this book, I have voluntarily read and reviewed it and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for the digital ARC!

I had a huge smile the whole time I was reading this cookbook because of how much fun it was to read. There are plenty of Princess Bride quotes and beautiful movie stills throughout the whole book to bring up nostalgia, and every recipe had a title and short description that tied the recipe into the Princess Bride theme. Each new recipe category also started off with a fun introduction that tied The Princess Bride and the recipes that would be introduced together.

As for the recipes themselves, they are all very easy to read, with ingredients often grouped into the recipes' different parts (ex. all ingredients for a sauce were grouped together) and very clear steps. Not all of the recipes had pictures of what the finished food would look like, but those that did had wonderful pictures that made the food look delicious.

I am a huge fan of how this cookbook was done and fully plan on buying this soon. A great book for any Princess Bride fan!

I recently had the utmost pleasure of perusing the glorious masterpiece that is The Princess Bride: The Official Cookbook, digital arc received courtesy of NetGalley and BenBella Books, Smart Pop.

The Princess Bride was one of my all-time favorite movies when I was growing up, I still quote many lines to this day. Skimming through the pages of this I came to the realization that I haven't presented this amazing movie to my children. What kind of mother am I!?

Needless to say, my four kids now quote the lines as I'm catching moments of pretend sword fighting. My daughter even pretended to be Princess Buttercup as they were having the most epic light saber battle.

This wonderful cookbook is filled with many intriguing recipes such as Farm Boy Breakfast, Six-Fingered Sandwiches, and Mawidge Meatwoaf. Not only is it filled with recipes it also has so many wonderful photos and quotes from the movie.

What recipe tempted me the most was Valerie's Magical Flan
This cake. This was...in my opinion...one of the best things I've ever made. The cake...the chocolatliciousness...the glorious moist fudge like cake was marvelous. Something beautiful happens to the cake when it moves. The flan must cling onto it somehow. It's so perfectly moist. The flan section, meh. I mean I suppose the cake wouldn't have been so glorious without it, but the flan part didn't do much for me in terms of flavor. It was the cake. The cake I will dream about forever. The cake that will become my signature cake in my house.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this review copy!
This was a fun cookbook, full of quotes from the movie, Most of the recipes were, well, just recipes of normal food, but named for people or events in the movie. So, it's fun, but no, kids, no actual iocane powder was used in the making of this cookbook.

I loved the creativity of the recipes and how it incorporated quotes and photos from the movie.

Thoughts: I absolutely adore this book. Okay, I adore the movie too so this fits right in. Although there are some really good recipes in here, it’s not so much a cookbook as it is a cultural reference. There are pictures and quotes from the movie as well as the recipes. There is also a brief history of the movie. As for the recipes, you are given ingredients, clear directions, colorful pictures of some of the dishes and if they fit vegetarian, gluten-free, or other diet-specific parameters. The only thing missing from them are the nutrient values (necessary for some people). But again, this is about the movie. But I know I will definitely be adding this to my “must buy” list.

Recommendations: If you’ve ever seen the movie and enjoyed it (who hasn’t?), you cannot miss this!

Disclaimer: I received a final and/or advanced reader copy of this book with the hope that I will leave my unbiased opinion. Perfect mixture of movie quotes, pictures and dishes inspired by different parts of the movie. I wish they made cookbooks for more movies and books. I haven’t tried any of the recipes yet but will report back when I do. This book would make the perfect gift for a fan of the movie. With dishes such as MLT, the “inconceivable” drink, bread pirate roberts and so many more puns! It’s a delight to read! I especially loved the chapter on “momentous soirées” a great way to collect the recipes together. I will be buying several copies as gifts!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book is perfect for anyone that is a true Princess Bride aficionado! It would make a great gift.

Brightly colored pages, artwork & quotes from the movie. The book is broken down into fun categories such as "Enchanting Breakfasts & Swashbuckling Snacks". I (& many others will ) appreciate the fact that recipes are clearly marked on the Table of Contents as GF (gluten free), V (vegetarian) & V+(vegan) to make it user friendly & adaptable.

Creative & fun. Can't wait to peruse it more & share some yummy delicacies with friends & family.

I review books & was able to preview this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love to read cookbooks and collect literary cookbooks so was very excited to have the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this cookbook. There are so many things I love about this cookbook, the quotes, movie trivia and movie stills. There are seven sections, Enchanting Breakfast, Gallant Lunches, Adventurous Dinners, Swashbuckling Snacks, Valiant Desserts, Triumphant Drinks and Momentous Soirée’s. The recipes themselves have whimsical names reflective of the movie for example, Buttercup Buttermilk Scones and Prince Humperdinck’s Eggs and Soldiers. The recipes are pretty basic/simple/standard, for instance Prince Humperdinck’s Eggs and Soldiers is basically a soft boiled egg in a cup with toast cut into strips to dip in the yolk. I don’t think recipes need to be complicated for a cookbook to be successful, these recipes are easy to follow and for the most part, use simple common ingredients. I think what makes this cookbook great is the storytelling within the cookbook. I really enjoyed the last section, Momentous Soirée’s, which pairs recipes within the book to help create a perfect gathering. For me, the only disappointment is that there are very few photos of the actual final food product. I need the visual and wish there were more of those.

While it isn’t an earth shattering cookbook packed with recipes that will wow, it is whimsical and fun and will make for a perfect gift for fans of the book and movie or collectors of literary cookbooks like myself.

This was a lovely read that brought the film to life through food. I enjoyed trying a couple of recipes and was delighted with the outcome. I'm a big lover of breakfast so I made the Buttercup Buttermilk Scones and they were delicious. I also tried The Grandson's Soup and Sandwich because I love a good soup during the colder months. It turned out great and was a tasty treat. This book includes a wonderful array of recipes that were inspired by and seen in the film. I look forward to trying more of them and thinking about the movie while I do. If you are a fan of The Princess Bride and love to eat you should definitely give this book a try.

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This cookbook is based on the book and film The Princes Bride. Throughout the cookbook, there are pictures from the film and quotes and passages from the book/film. All of the recipes are themed for the title and the actual food fits as well. The recipes are fairly easy and clearly explained. There are pictures of most of the dishes. The author also made sure to note gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan dishes.
I look forward to making everything and having a watch/reading party with food to match.

I love cooking and I love The Princess Bride so was very excited to be able to review this book. And I certainly wasn't disappointed.

There are quotes and pictures strewn amongst the recipes, which was just an added bonus. But, the recipes are the star here. One sounds more delicious than the next. I did make the Buttercup Buttermilk Scones (scones are my favorite) along with Hash You Wish and Farm Boy Breakfast and they all turned out great. The recipes were easy to follow with regular ingredients and tasted delicious.

This will definitely be purchased for my collection - loved it!

This is full of quotes from the movie, pictures from the movie and the recipes, and great punned names for the recipes like Hash You Wish, six-fingered sandwiches, and a parties section.
It would make a great addition to the bookshelf of any Princess Bride fan.
The book includes gluten-free and vegan recipes ensuring all fans can find something fun to cook.
I received a copy via NetGalley, all opinions are my own.

I love themed cookbooks! I collect them so when I saw this one I had to request it!

Not only for the recipes but I loved seeing the pictures and information about the movie as well!
The recipes are pretty simple and straightforward but I really loved them!

This book is adorable and the recipes are easy enough to do with kids.

I received this book as an ARC in exhange for an honest review from NetGalley. But I did receive a kindle-type version. That version was very difficult to navigate as an ebook. And it was poorly laid out between pictures and getting to the recipes easily. I enjoyed the recipes enough to seek out the ACTUAL PRINT book at my local bookstore. Was MUCH MORE IMPRESSED. The layout incorporated pictures, the story and quotes in a clear way around the recipes. Without making it difficult to navigate. Recipes were easy to read and clear. With photos of each recipe. The PHYSICAL book would make a wonderful addition to a bookshelf, conversation book or as intended...a cookbook.

The recipes were moderate. They were easy to make, but lacking that anything unique. As someone who cooks a lot these are great base recipes you can improve upon. Fabulous for a parent trying to cook with a child who helps, a newer cook or even an advanced cook that is able to embellish. Since the recipes are easily accessible -lovers of the book will enjoy making items that tie into the story. This would be a great gift for with a updated copy of the movie for any die-hard Princess Bride fan. Some recipes are a bit more involved - such as seafood and paella recipes...but it would let a new cook grow as there are only a few of these more complex recipes.

I made the following: The Grandson's Soup (not the sandwich part, simply due to time on my part), Chips of Insanity and Sicilian Meatballs.
Grandsons Soup was a bit of a let down because the broth came from purchased broth making it salty and the noodles ended up being too soft for me. Making scrap broth would have been better; but for child this would be more approachable.
I enjoyed Chips of Insanity; spin on nachos using potato chips instead of tortilla. I enjoyed it, was able to add my own ingredients and make in small portions as well for midnight snack. And I continue to make this for a midnight snack
Sicilian meatballs were good. Nothing fancy. But good.

There are more common recipes renamed to fit the theme: Most Likely Kill You In the Morning (Shakshuka variation), Giant Boulders (fried mac n cheese balls), Bonettis Defense (beef kabobs). Its such a well round book. with a variety, that I will enjoy continuing to cook from it.

But I do have to buy the actual copy. As the ebook is lacking in page organization and ability to easily negotiate between recipes. Also I have a black and white kindle...which does not do the pictures/layout justice.

Would recommend as holiday, birthday or fan gift. Wish the book had come out much earlier prior to the holiday as it would have been a holiday hit.

I enjoyed flipping through this one but I haven’t tried any recipes yet

4.75/5 stars! This cookbook is the perfect combination between sweet and useful. It was memory-evoking and drew me back to my childhood when I saw "The Princess Bride" for the first time. I loved how little quotes and sections of the film were pulled into this cookbook. I think this could be a great way to get the next generation of movie viewers into the kitchen with their parents to cook.

I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

“Sonny, true love is the greatest thing in the world… except for a nice MLT. Mutton, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomatoes are ripe. They’re so perky, I love that.” – Miracle Max

I admit it. I have a weakness for fandom cookbooks. They tend to be over the top whimsical, pun-laden, and filled with pictures. There’s a heck of a lot of them out there pairing food and wit with movies, television shows, books, comics, games, characters — yes, Hello Kitty has a cookbook — and even those mouse-based theme parks. Whatever you’re passionate about, you are likely to find a themed cookbook to feed your fannish hunger.

Back in the early 90s, this reviewer contributed recipes to an unofficial Northern Exposure cookbook, which we titled Canned Moose. It was never distributed beyond our little band of merry mooseketeers, but that creative experience left me with a permanent appreciation for fandom cookbooks.

The Princess Bride is a movie beloved by many, of course. With such a huge fan base, it’s no surprise that this isn’t the first cookbook based on the movie to be published, but I believe it’s the best. It excels in not just the quality of content, but also in the professional polish given to the editing and layout. (One previously published cookbook which shall remain unnamed was unable to stand up under the weight of its typos and grammar gaffes. Even the TITLE has a typo.)

But Jenn Fujikawa has got it right. There’s a playful joy and brightness to her cookbook that’s lacking in other attempts. The recipe titles are wonderfully clever (Six-Fingered Sandwiches, Anyone Want A Peanut?), delightfully punny (Hash You Wish, Bread Pirate Roberts, Have You The Wing), and convey the story (Inigo Montoya’s Taste of Revenge, Two Wove’s Kiss Cookies, The Grandson’s Soup and Sandwich). The food photography is outstanding – even Miracle Max’s Miracle Pills are displayed on plates so pretty I wish they were mine.

What I’ll be trying first: R.O.U.S.es – Rolls of Unusual Size. These are fresh-baked bread stuffed with savory ham and cheese and decorated to look like a rodent. What could be better?

Once I purchase a packet of butterfly pea flower powder, I’m going to whip up an “Inconceivable” color-changing drink. Before reading this cookbook, I was unfamiliar with butterfly pea flower powder (try saying that fast five times). A quick google search taught me that it’s readily available, easy to use, and apparently delicious. I appreciated learning about a new-to-me ingredient.

After the recipes, you’ll find menu plans for picnics, parties, happy hours, and intimate date and movie nights to help you enjoy the cookbook to its fullest. And once the party is over and you’re happily fed, there’s only one thing left to say…

"Good night, Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I’ll most likely kill you in the morning." – Dread Pirate Roberts

My thanks to author Jenn Fujikawa, BenBella Books, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital review copy of this book.
